Sony : Paris Games Week press conference dated

I wouldn't expect Visceral to announce their Star Wars game this year. Seems like something they will save for E3 and have it released by this time next year so it can be released around Star Wars Rogue One is. Get that hype train going for that game the way they're doing with Battlefront.

And I definitely wouldn't expect a Dead Space 4 announcement anytime soon since they just finished Hardline and still have yet to announce the Star Wars game they're doing.

Man.... it seems like there is so much more hype for the Sony PGW conference than there was for MS's Gamescom conference... or am I wrong?

I can't wait... I hope that Sony has some huge announcements for new/unexpected things and doesn't disappoint!!

Sony's show doesn't tend to have bigguns, but they tend to be unique, unexpected and secondly, significant in quantity. (at least 4 new announcements)

MS had a good Gamescom, but when you boil it down to what was new, it was just Halo Wars 2, and frankly, that was not exactly unexpected. Halo's pretty much annualised these days, and a Halo spin-off for 2016 is a rational expectation.

Man, I really hope we will see Ovosonico's next game at PGW (which is expected to be a ps4 game). I really digged Murasaki Baby's hand drawn art style and atmosphere. Really excited to see what's next from them.

There's just a wider range of things you can expect from a Sony conference.

MS pretty much told the people what they would be seeing at Gamescomm. There were no surprises and not much new.

Sony is keeping this close to their chest and like every other conference it's fun to wonder what game "Dev X" and "Dev Y" are making and when "Dev Z" will announce their game.

Oh jesus, don't do that to me! I made an audible, inadvertent "awahgg" sound upon reading that and imaging such a prospect. WipEout, you were too good for this world...

Without simulating g-forces, a Wipeout game in VR would make you go "awahgg" in real life too, because you'd be puking after a minute of playing.

Okay, we're just little over a week with no leaks now, so it feels appropriate to jot down some expectations for the event. Realistically I think we'll see...

  • Everybody's favourite drunken Irish uncle Jim Ryan presenting
  • A Dreams blowout
  • Quantic Dream's new game
  • Sony Bend's new game
  • A small project from Studio Japan, maybe something directed by Gavin Moore
  • A trailer for Hunger with possible release window
  • Rime release date
  • WiLD gameplay
  • Indie montage
  • PS1/PS2 Classics support for the PS4 announced
  • Gran Turismo 7 reveal
Bam. Shenmue HD will be reserved for PSX, as will God of War 4, Ape Escape 4 and Double Fine stuff.

You know what games haven't been mentioned for a while, the PS4 versions of The Forest and Killing Floor 2. Are they still happening?

Sony Bend is for PSX IMO. Doesn't make really sense to show it for PGW I think (US studio + it's a smaller studio only PS Fan really know about (I feel it like this at least)). Otherwise I agree with your list.

The Ape Escape team, 15 years later...

It means nothing.

Ape Escape PS4 in development

Yeah it's a long shot. I'm still buzzing off the E3 of Dreams, and the urge to believe is irresistible.

Also I forgot about Level 5's PS4 project when making that list, but I honestly have no idea where they'd pop up to reveal it. If it's Ni no Kuni 2 then they'd bring the house down at PSX.

Absolutely should be happening. I think there's not that big of a marketing relationship between the Devs and Sony besides some mentions here and there. Reason why there are little updates until the games are close to shipping with a date. Similar thing that happened to that puzzle game I keep forgetting its name that's shipping next year. Too many games heh...

I think some of you are expecting way too much. Surely Sony will save some big announcements for PSX, which is their main Q4 event anyway.

Edit: Of course I hope I'm wrong :)

I think that GT will have its own event in April/ May 2016, for a fall 2016 release.

But other than that, aye. I too think that Bend will probably be the big one for PSX (as in big yet unannounced AAA exclusive).

For PGW, I can definitely see a blowout on MM (Dreams), Rime, WiLD, as well as the big reveal of the new project for QD.
Hopefully we will also get good stuff on HellBlade, ABZU and something special (release date?) for NMS and The Tomorrow Children.

edit: Forgot the Wild card, the supposed big AAA JRPG SCEJ is supposedly working on. PGW could be a good time for that I think

Give me this, plus a release date for Abzu, and that's it, that's all I want.

Hell, I'm not gonna watch any trailers for these titles going forward, I just want release dates.

3 AAA games unveil at PSG? lol no way. Quantic dream and "maybe" bend for PSG. I mean last Gamescom they didn't announce any AAA exclusive right? so they blazing 3 this year is highly unlikely. GT7 and GOW4 will be their AAA surprises for PSX.

Last year they announced Until Dawn and Tearaway Unfolded as far as "big" games. Nothing to sneeze at, but nothing huge either.

For a couple of years or so us Shenmue fans had a picture of Yu Suzuki and Mark Cerny standing next to each other that got us all in a lather and dreaming of what could be. And now Shenmue III is in development. I ain't sayin', I'm just sayin'.

ABZU! I forgot about that one. It can't be too far off now.

Fair enough, you've got me there. 3 triple-A games in 2015's equivalent of a Sony Gamescom conference is a bit optimistic. I still think GT7 will be a PGW reveal though, simply because it's a franchise far more geared towards Europe. American audiences are less receptive to Sony's biggest IP so it'd make less of an impact at PSX. I will concede though, and say that Sony Bend's game is most likely going to be shown in December.

Silent Hills was an absolutely huge announcement, but it was revealed in an indirect way that makes it easy to forget it was essentially revealed at Gamescom.

PS/1/2/P Classics would be a cool announcement. But if the trophy rumours are true it would be a megaton for me personally.

Ah forget about them. Still a remaster for a niche game and a re-reveal of a move game that apparently even Sony had some low expectations for is no where near quantic dream or Bend new AAA project or GT7 let alone the three together. Still after you mentioned these two I can see the possibility even tho it's small of some big announcements at PSG.

GT7 for PSG and Bend for PSX seems more reasonable actually. I'd go with your prediction here.

Whoa. I know Fergal Gara was Irish but I didn't know Jim Ryan is. Or is that a joke? He sounds like he's from Hampshire.

Nah I'm just joking. I don't really know where he's from, but he looks like he could be of Irish ancestry. He definitely reminds me of one of my uncles from over there either way.

Kinda hope Jim Ryan wont do the presentation. He seems like a nice guy but on stage he really isn't the best. Feels so unsafe. Michael Denny on the other hand is pretty good.
Or they bring out some new guy like Asad at E3, he did his job pretty good too.

Really? I like Jim Ryan. I think he's pretty adorable on stage. Well, to me. By the way, anyone has a gif of him shrugging?

Give me Rime/Wild info, a Dreams blowout, and the No Man's Sky release date and it's a better conference than E3 for me.

The first three are either confirmed or have a good chance of happening. If NMS is a Morpheus title, then its date will probably be announced alongside the Morpheus date. Whenever that happens.

Yeah. If No Man's Sky is a 2015 title, I'm guessing that they'll announce it a PGW, but if it's a 2016/possibly PSVR title, we'll probably hear about it at PSX.
