One written by Alex Garland, the other David Cage. Their writing skill could not be further apart.

Preach it brah!!!!

IDK but i thought Beyond: Two Souls was pretty boring.
I'm gonna stay catious aboout this one, even if the Graphics are incredible.

Hey, it's the girl from The Following.

Anyway, the concept is interesting and I still think this whole interactive movie type of game has potential..... but David Cage.

What this needs to even have a chance of being good:

- Some sort of perma death. It's seriously the only way you can make QTE's exciting. Knowing that the character might die if you screw up gives the game way more tension and a feeling that you as the player matter.

- Intense action scenes, makes this more I robot than Ex Machina. Combined with Perma Death it's makes the game fun. Heavy Rain was at its best during the scenes that you felt like the character was in real danger. I didn't even know if he could die in all of them, probably not, but knowing that there was a chance is what made it intense.
I really don't care about an intense drama, not because the idea isn't interesting but because it's still Quantic Dream and I'd rather be engaged in a fun action scene than watching a hardly interactive, corny, terribly written drama about what it means to be human

You're giving that demo from 10 years ago way too much importance. I'm a Gaffer and I barely remembered that thing.

I think it has more to do with the fact that Cage, like them or not, launched two financially successful high profile and very unique games on PS3 with moderate critical praise.

More people remember Beyond and Heavy Rain that that tech demo that, until today, we all thought was just that. A tech demo that was not unlike Agni's Philosophy.

What? Kara demo was in 2012.

Let's hope this has more interesting scenes than their other games, closeup headshots are nice but I'd like to see some more involved motion capture

Feels like this premise is getting a little stale now.

The original tech demo gave me the feels, but this looked super generic.

Should look incredible, hopefully gameplay will back that up. As far as the name, it’s terrible, drop the Detroit part at the very least.

I don't dislike David Cage. I do think he is a terrible writer and I find some of the tropes he overuses downright creepy. I mean, wasn't there like three shower scenes in Beyond alone, plus at least two attempted rape scenes (the bar and the alley). Despite this, I think Heavy Rain is a great game, my rationale being that your choices certainly have more impact than the majority of these story-choice games and it's far more fun to play through a bad detective movie than to watch one, which Heavy Rain allows. The fact that how you complete QTEs can lead to a different ending (like fucking up the Mad Jack QTEs will kill Jayden) is brilliant. However, Indigo Prophecy and Beyond have little to no real choice, relying almost entirely on their poorly written stories. In Indigo Prophecy fucking up a QTE will force you to try again, and in Beyond if you fail a QTE there's no difference to the scene - Jodie still kicks the guy off the van. Considering Beyond came out two years ago and enough people liked it, I'm assuming Detroit will do the same. And that's a shame, because I love the interactive film genre and Quantic Dream are an incredibly talented team. If only they kicked David Cage off the writing and directing team altogether they could be making some of the best games in the industry. When Heavy Rain came out it was pretty unchallenged, but now that there's Telltale and Dontnod and Until Dawn the only appeal of this game is it's graphics (although Until Dawn is hardly ugly itself).

Wasn't a huge fan of Beyond but I'm ready to hop on the hype train again. QD must've heard what people didn't like in their last game, so hopefully they'll improve here.

So hyped.

Beyond was an amazing game and one of my faves from last gen. Ellen Page needs to do more games.

Hopefully release news of the PS4 version will come up soon, I will def double dip.

I will also maybe give Rain a 3rd attempt int he HD version but the story was so bad and boring I could never finish it.

I know Heavy Rain was a surprise hit and a million seller but do we know how Beyond performed? It certainly reviewed worse than HR but I dont remember hearing about how it performed.
Last we heard it was at 1.5 million after like 4 months.

I doubt it, but I kind of hope theres some weird local multiplayer like In beyond. Had a lot of fun playing it in two player mode with my wife.
There will be something like this. Maybe not local though. Beyond had to be a test for something bigger I think.

Tl;Dr: Relax Cage, you don't need to impress anyone.
Yeah I guess I'm with Melchiah here. I enjoy them as entertainment romps and not really view them as attempts on serious drama, even if Cage says that. What he puts into the game in the end makes it mostly a fun to play game with exploration and some thrills if you can buy into the basic premise. If a dramatic scene falls flat to make me feel something, I don't really mind if its still interesting to watch or acted decently, which it usually is.

But again, we don't know how this game will fare at all. Sure the trailer is super serious, but we have no clue about the game itself or what the other two writers added to the experience. If it turns out to be a mere passable sci-fi action game at the end I would be perfectly fine with it. I guess I can fully separate what devs say about their game and what I think about it.

Quantic Dream is still the king of rain. Drops actually having a realistic looking impact is so cool to see:

Mid-air rainfall's really well done too. Holds up to the slow-mo scrutiny.

Probably they have 4-5 modelers modeling NPCs day and night, irrespective of project at hand. These "extras" we could see in different games, I wouldn't mind if I spotted a few of them in their next game!

(Since base models could be billion poly's for all I care, they can be used on any future project on any hardware.)
Just changing hairstyles and makeup can drastically change how a character looks too.

Yeah, that's how I see them as well; a light drama with some thrills that entertains me, not something that's supposed to be as thought-provoking as the likes of TLOU and SOMA.

Someone has already posted a Heavy Rain spoiler. Avoid reading the comments if you haven't played it!

Not sure how to feel about this one. I've warmed up to the graphics since yesterday but I don't have a solid grasp on a lot of the details yet. Feels disjointed. Seems like the central conflict will be around blue collar workers protesting and generally getting more aggressive towards the androids that have taken their jobs. Curious as to what the ending bits will be like, maybe riots?

Interesting, when she is speaking to us, the light circle is off, when she turns and walks away, the circle is on.

I wonder if the normal robots circles are "always on" to tell people "hey I'm a robot", but Kara can turn it on and off, and she will use that to make people think she is human.

Really happy with David Cage saying this is not a futuristic world with invented technology.

I think it's a vignette for breaking the 4th wall as she closes the narration to the "invisible" player. That being said, the original Kara demo wasn't fully packaged, so I guess the robot "circle" does not exist for her.

If a place ever gets androids it's gonna be japan, come on, not Detroit.

I wouldn't count on that.

He already said this will give players the ability to affect the core story directly.

Which was pretty much the only flaw of Beyond as that kind of game. As for the story itself, he also made Omikron, which is top 5 best games of all times, so it can go either way.

So count on it buddy boy.

"Detroit is featuring a brand new 3D engine."
Well that's certainly interesting, I thought they would add to the Beyond engine since the sorcerer demo was running on that.

Edit: awesome tidbits too, it shows the polycount of Kara it looks like 68k? Although I could be wrong

What world did I land in where videogame writing and titles are so great and meaningful a lot of you have become negative about this game already?

Did it occur to you that Detriot--the city and its history, its inhabitants and their culture--may play a big part in the story of the game?

Don't bother. alot of people here hate Cage that is all.

Yeah the problem with Beyond is we didn't play out the timeline in chronological order and it just jumped around the place which was jarring.

I think QD realise that mistake because the Beyond remaster can be played out in a straight timeline now.

Hopefully they have the same approach with Detroit.

Beyond lost a lot of impact by not playing out in chronological order.

Seeing the character actually grow gradually into her adult self would've been so much better.

Cage was going for a twist in presentation ,but it diluted his work at the end.

For example,The homeless scene would've been so much more powerful if you had known all the character's history up to that point.

Great point. Makes me more interested in the story.

People are more critical of stories, in this sort of games (at least I am) because such a big emphasis is put on the narrative.
Whether Ninja Gaiden has a good story or not, is less important than having a good and deep combat system.
Also, because David Cage has a big mouth in this sense, and it's hard to separate the two, sometimes.

Very much looking forward to this game. Fading boundaries between machine and man is one of my favorite topics.

So glad QD decided to make a game based of the Kara tech demo.

I didn't even notice this before, but that would explain how she can blend in and get in the "human section" in the metro (in the trailer), even though some people were staring at her (probably because they recognize the look of the droid).
