iOS/tvOS Gaming November 2015 | Out of your pocket, into your living room

Got to reiterate how much fun Five Card Quest is. The lane-based structure adds an interesting strategic layer to the combat, since you have time to plan before an attack comes, can push enemies back or freeze their forward movement, switch lanes, etc.

It's not just attack and defend

Next game from dev of rymdkapsel: Twofold Inc

Still haven't checked that out. What makes it so good? The choices and such seem lacking compared to other digital interactive fiction/gamebooks like Sorcery

The humor. It's Laughing out loud funny and quite original. It's not as deep or as long as other gamebooks but its humor makes up for it. Just like the Trial of the Clones.

Yes. It's all in the writing.

It's leagues above genre peers. Comedic timing also plays a crucial role in landing the humor.

Artwork is pretty fantastic as well.

It also helps that I've got a genuine fondness for the source material.

I had to stop playing To Be or Not to Be on the subway, because I kept erupting into spontaneous laughter. The game is too funny for its own good.

Writer Ryan North is hilarious and totally killing it on Unbeatable Squirrel Girl from Marvel Comics. His Dinosaur webcomics are pretty good too.

So wait for the sequel? haha
Also said they have at least one major update planned for FCQ

The next game would "be more story-based and less randomized, think kind of like Chrono Trigger except with this one's battle system but tweaked a bit (and possibly dungeon system?)"

Haven't played it, but I have read good impressions. I'd say to hold off till tomorrow, if anything. Never know what releases might pop up

Good idea.

And I should point out that I haven't finished Deathwatch yet. What is my problem? Be nice to actually finish some games before buying new ones.

Gotta let it out. Hell yeah with Clemson at No. 1 in the first playoff rankings! Go Tigers!

Now back to Apple gaming...

I got one of those keychain sized Bluetooth gamepads and it's awesome!!

The buttons feel quite nice for a 15$ controller.

Workin with Downwell which is mainly what I bought it for. I'm angry horizon chase doesn't have other gamepad options. Those are really the only two games I've played any amount of since super hexagon.

The katana is cool at first but is not good when you run into soldiers. You need a decent ranged weapon and the bow you get with that character is not so hot. So, yeah, when I bought an autorife. It made a difference. Typically try to hit the zombies with my katana unless there's just too many but always pull out my auto rifle for soldier battles.

I take back my negative comments now that I restarted the game using a different character (the woman), the game feels so much tighter when using firearms rather than the katana.

Further Apple TV 4 woes.

Started playing Lumino City on my ATV4.
I didn't realise it was a point and click game, played with the world's tiniest touchpad. :|
It also has ridiculously small text. It doesn't look like they intended this for a TV at all, unless that TV was gigantic or mounted on a desk.

So I think I'll ditch Lumino City and maybe play it on my ipad.

I tried Airplay, as I heard tales of 'no lag' Sonic 2 is unplayable because of the lag, despite trying my iPad mini 2 and iPhone 5S. In fact, pretty much everything is unplayable via Air Play. I could see this being nice for RPGs, however.

Haven't tried the ATV4, but always had lag with ATV3, even with the Apple HDMI to lightning adapter.

Should we have an OT for the game?

Also, when will be acceptable for devs to finally drop those recommended device warnings? In 3 years I expect very few people to still own an iPad 1 or an iPhone 4S and below. People shouldn't expect to play every game on the App Store on their device forever.

HDMI adapter? you mean plugging the iPhone directly into the TV via HDMI still has lag?

I use AirPlay occasionally with my 6s Plus and the lag there at least is significantly lower with the ATV4. Almost none (seems to depend on the game to an extent). It does seem to degrade over time, but I've been pretty happy with how it works. Usually I'm using it to show other people a mobile game - so for that purpose it's fine. :D

Aside from The Room 3, are any of the other releases worth looking into? The things I have seen aren't all that interesting.

What's the best crossword app on iPad?

Crux no longer works, so I need a crossword that supports British crosswords.

Good God, with the app size inflating like crazy this past year, cleaning the fridge has become a nightmare.
IF I buy a new iPad, it won't be cheap but size will matter, a lot.

I need to see if the Android version got the update. I had trouble getting into Out There, but maybe the new "easy" mode will help. :)

Before trying the easy mode (which is totally legit and understandable of course) you might want to try the cemetery mode.
Normal difficulty but in the following runs you will find your previous un succeful runs ships with the whole load out.
After some bad runs...sequent ones will be greatly easier because you will find resources and ships when you previously died along the way.

Worth a try imho to retain the thrill of the original game.

You can always activate easy mode later in case it didn't work.

I'm interested in this too. Currently have the NY Times app and the Crosswords app by Stand Alone (the Classic version). Still pretty salty about Stand Alone re-releasing a new app that is more modern in the design language while leaving the old $10 version in the dust.
