Mushihimesama (Steam) |OT| More "bugs" than Batman!

Why isn't my score uploading? I have a score of ~50 million on Novice/Maniac in Score Attack mode (reached stage 5 with no continues), but my score isn't on the leaderboards whereas people with scores of 20-30 million are on there. Is there a setting I need to enable?

I'm using gedosato to prevent crashing, btw.

Press Y to find your score (360 controller, not sure what it is on keyboard).
This game is great otherwise. I'm pretty new to shmups but am having a lot of fun.

The hitbox is actually 1 pixel, right? And only the center of the bullet, not the whole bullet.

Yeah.

You got a Q4RAF too? Nice!

I have the same stick too, although mine is modded with translucent blue Sanwa's, although Seimitsu buttons might be more suited for STGs.

The thing is a tank, I love it! If needed in an emergency it would be my go to for a bludgeoning weapon. The hair trigger on sanwa buttons took a bit of adjusting but they are my normal now.

not sure if mushi is like the sequel but the hitboxes might be bigger or smaller depending on the mode

I'd love to get a chance to play Ketsuipachi at some point.

I would hope any of the Do/Donpatchi games get released on steam eventually. Arguably one of my favorite vertical STG series. Crimzon Clover is up there as well.

In terms of Hori STGs, a notable one from Cave is called Progear, of course they also have Deathsmiles, but I always liked the Steampunk setting that Progear has.

I hope that Mushihimesama is the first of great things to come.

Don't care much for DFK...but getting it would (hopefully) also mean also getting the Ketsuipachi mode, which afaik wasn't possible to get region free.

oh I'd love it if Cave could switch game mechanics for more games - imagine Ketsuimushi!
Or maybe some sort of hacker fan could do something

Capcom holds the rights to Progear and would have to be the ones to initiate the port (or grant the license for someone else).

If I buy this to try out(for fun), would you guys recommend getting v1.5 with it or could I do without it for the time being?

I'm not planning to get it right this moment, but it's good to have info down the road. Thanks for any responses!

1.5 is a really fun mode and one that not a lot of people had access to until this port. For $5 I would not pass it up.

Keep in mind there is currently a preorder discount - both the base game and 1.5 are 25% off and you get the soundtrack for free for a limited time. I would consider picking it up now even if you don't have time to play it until later.

With the promotion active, I would just go ahead and get the Matsuri pack.

Yep I figured given the discount I'd basically be paying for the game and free DLC and soundtrack.

Alright thanks for the input guys. This is my first CAVE game, I'm not an experienced STG guy but I play some Touhou for the pretty aesthetic and stuff. When I have time to get into this I hope it's good!

It's probably because Progear was developed on the CPS2 hardware and thus tied up in Capcom licensing I know it was different compared to the standard hardware CAVE worked on the past.

I wonder if Raizing / Eighting's Dimahoo / Great Mahou Daisakusen is also held up in licensing limbo.

I guess the same applies to Takumi's GigaWing and Mars Matrix as well.

Been picking at these for a bit and kind of just smashed all the info together. The game has a lot of menu paths and quirks. I tried to highlight some not so obvious but very useful things that can be easily overlooked, all in one handy spot.

TRAINING
In the training menu go down to the stage select. Left/Right will let you cycle through each stage so you can practice them specifically. BUT if you press "Shot" [z] it will cycle through bosses, letting you practice the mid-boss, stage-boss and even the TLB (if you have the right difficulty selected.) Practicing the bosses divorced of the stress of the lead up can make a huge difference, I highly recommend giving it a go.

INPUT
Mushi has 2 shot buttons and rapid fire settings for tapping techniques that can be a little difficult to internalize at first. Turning on input display will show a graphic of the arcade control panel that animates for each button and can give a lot better idea of what is actually happening under the hood. To turn it on go here (make sure to adjust the location if you rotated the monitor so you can see it.)

Options > General Screen > Input Display > Show 1P : ON

REPLAY
At the end of a run the game will ask you if you want to save a replay. Say yes! Watching your own replays can make a huge difference in realizing mistakes you are making that are hard to spot in the heat of the moment. Replays have some basic playback controls that some may have missed. You can't skip stages, unfortunately, but max fast forward helps.

"Shot" [z] -- Play normal speed
"Full Auto" [c] -- Fast Forward (Press multiple times for up to 5x)
"Shot Change" [v] -- Slow Mode (Press multiple times for up to 5x)

Fixed my fullscreen issues. Awesome.
Code:
configdefaultGeDoSaTo.ini
renderResolution 2560x1920@60
presentWidth 1920
presentHeight 1080
presentHz 60
presentInterval 1
scalingType lanczos
maintainAspectRatio true
forcePresentRes true
forceAlwaysDownsamplingRes true
Buttery smooth 60fps, correct aspect ratio in 1200p fullscreen with black bars and face-stabbing sharp sprites.
Are you sure the game is rendering at 2560x1920? It's not rendering at that resolution for me.
Also for a 1920x1200 monitor, presentWidth 1600 and presentHeight 1200 should get you even better black bars.

Edit: Maniac Normal is so much fun wow.

Edit 2: When windowed, I can get the game to render at stupidly high resolutions using presentWidth/Height, but that doesn't work for fullscreen.
Also, for unrotateable monitors, using a custom 480x640 resolution looks really good - but that's a hassle until the game properly supports vertical resolutions.
Why would you not want to use full auto?
In addition to what jonjonaug said, using Shot instead of Full Auto will slow down your movement, which helps when dodging dense bullet spam.

Is there anyway to set the resolution to 240p (for output to an arcade monitor)?
If your GPU supports it, sure, using GeDoSaTo's presentWidth/Height options.
377860_2015-11-08_0002ksix.png

Why not 640x480 though?
I think his settings are missing a "clearRenderResolutions" on top and a "forceRenderRes true".

You can make it render at arbitrary resolutions while downsampling aspect-correct to arbitrary present resolutions with those settings.
Very cool, thanks. Are all the GeDoSaTo options listed somewhere?
Also, it's always downsampling from 3840x2160 instead of my specified renderResolution, is there another setting I'm missing? Nvm, the ordering of the options matters. Awesome.
forceRenderRes is much better than forcePresentRes, wow.
Code:
clearRenderResolutions true
renderResolution 2560x1920@60
scalingType lanczos
maintainAspectRatio true
forceRenderRes true
timeGetTimeFactor 2.0
steamFriendsLimit 0

The difficulty spike in arrange mode from 2 to 3 is something else. I go from no misses / no bombs to game over in that level.

Wow the botched the port so bad it's buggier than Batman? I wasn't going to rebuy the game anyway, but screwing the port up that badly is a really bad sign for what's to come.

RIP CAVE.

All of the enemies you fight in Mushihimesama are various incarnations of giant bugs / insects and you'll likely take down thousands of them before you obtain that 1CC. Do you understand the point of the OT subtitle now?

Cheers for the comment, I'm pretty new to GeDoSaTo, any help is more than welcome.

I feel this troll post is missing a "FACT" in there somewhere. :D

Anyway, I started using GeDoSato last night and hey, no more crashes. Great stuff.

Odd that they would release this before something like DonPachi, I'm not a massive fan of this lame girly aesthetic of these later Cave games, much prefer the balls to the wall of proper spaceships fucking other tanks and spaceships up rather than pussy bugs

it's not really odd, even if you don't like it. cute girls sell better than spaceships pretty much universally.

I guess sex sells doesn't it!?

I however hope we see the likes of ...

Guwange
DonPachi
Ibara
Ketsui: Kizuna Jigoku Tachi
Dangun Feveron

Regarding the fps issues, didn't the arcade board run at 56fps??

I like the bug theme because it's something unique for shooters. I don't mind being a spaceship shooting down other spaceships, but that scenario is so common among shooters that I appreciate games which strike out into other aesthetics.

Forget about spaceships, I want the entire ESP* series on Steam.

Forget about spaceships and high-school students, helicopters is where it's at.

(Give us arcade port of Ketsui with DS mode enancements - it's the only way most of us will be able to see TLB)

ESP Ra De and ESP Galuda, right?

I am rather impartial to the Donpachi / Dodonpachi titles myself.

Unfortunately I don't have a TATE supported screen since I mainly play on a HDTV, but I'm considering on buying one.

I do play a lot of Hori STGs though such as Darius, R-Type, Gradius / Parodius.

It wasn't until I started getting heavily into the Vertical STGs like the CAVE stuff and games like Danmaku Unlimited 2 and Crimzon Clover, that I consider the need for a vertically oriented screen.

Altus holds the license to ESP Ra De, I believe. That puts it in the same limbo as Progear. Espgaluda 2 is probably an easy port since Cave released it on 360 but the first Espgaluda might be trickier.

I'd love a Espgaluda 2 port, only ever played the arcade version for an hour or so. But putting something with "2" in the name on a new platform without its prequel seems dicey.

Realistically, it will probably be something that had a 360 release of the initial/only game, or something which sounds sufficiently standalone. But there are still lots of great games to chose from in that selection.

Wasn't the game originally designed for 240p output?
The arcade board was, but this port uses much higher definition sprites than what were present on the original hardware. You could force the game down to 240x320 to try to approximate the original if you really wanted to.

That's a good question. I can't find a definitive answer.

And if that's true, it would mean that only people with G-Sync would be able to play it at the proper speed without tearing or duplicate frames.

I've never heard of a 56 Hz arcade game. Then again, anything is possible in arcade machines :p

Still, it's a port of the 360 version, and that was most definitely 60 FPS.

Raiden Fighters 1 / 2 / Jet and Viper Phase 1 should all run at 54hz, actually. But the CV1000 boards are all running at 60hz, to my knowledge.

The hardware that ran Dodonpachi Daioujou, Espgaluda, and Ketsui is known to be around that range, and the console ports of Ketsui are confirmed to run faster than the original hardware as a result. Still not sure about the hardware Cave moved on to afterward.

Is that true? I thought the PGM games were 60hz as well?

Has anyone had luck with PS3 arcade sticks? The game detects the stick fine, but the button configurations are all off. Start is on the face buttons, which is incredibly awkward, and other face buttons don't work at all. It's quite the deal breaker for me, and I'm not sure when or if they'll fix it.

PS3/PS4 sticks seems completely busted at the moment. Might have some luck with a remapper utility, have not tried personally. Can check my test results here.

Tried installing SCP PS3 drivers? Should make your PS3 controller show as a 360 pad and might get things going for you.
