Dolphin - Emulating Wii and Gamecube Games

Do you have cheats enabled in Dolphin? Are you using the correct region widescreen code?
Hadn't enabled cheats. So it works now... kinda.

Because now it has two black boxes in the bottom and the upper part of screen. Pretty annoying.

I probably just play it on 4:3. No problem and really don't have the patient to fiddle with different setups this time.

Was a bit skeptical of some of the promises made when this project first began, but hot damn, this video is hype:

Holy specular highlights, Batman. That's almost worse than the original's crippling bloom.

That's just a letterbox overlay present in the original game for that opening cutscene, it goes away afterward. But paper mario also does a lot of offscreen culling so unless you've got that disabled you really don't get a whole lot more out of a wide screen aspect ratio.

Ugh I have a new problem.

I'm playing with Wii U Pro Controller and when I touch lightly the analog stick and let go Mario still keeps moving to the right. I tried to setup some dead zone but then Mario keeps moving left even if I don't press anything.

I think it can't be helped. For some reason I have this same problem with every GC/Wii game in Dolphin. For some reason Pro Controllers analog stick doesn't play nicely on these older games.

EDIT. Found a fix! Dolphin supports Xinput so I switched for that from Dinput and now the drifting is gone!

Starting playing around with the Dolphin emulator and man, it`s getting great. Just test Klonoa on the emulator with the gamecube controller adapter and it work great. Now, I can use my wavebird I own without any issue.

I was wondering as I didn`t see any info here but now that I have the gamecube controller adapter connect for the emulator, can this control work on it.

I don`t see it on control choice and was wondering if they is a way to use this on the emulator for certain game.

Which adapter model are you using? Does that controller just act as a GameCube gamepad? If so I imagine it should work.

The official GameCube contller adapter for WiiU. I guess it could work but it will be missing some button because of the control design.

Yo who emulates F-Zero GX? The greatest arcade racer ever gets even better when you bump up the res, blow it up on a big-ass screen, and pretty it up with Dolphin's AA and hacks. Combine it with an official Gamecube controller and the Mayflash adapter (the new one, not the crappy old one) and it's orgasmic.

Only problem is that I keep having slight stutters even though the game runs at 60FPS for me.

Here's a little fun thing I did; I played a race normally and then ran the replay with Dolphin's Wireframe mode for a seriously surreal experience. Unfortunately running GX and recording at the same time pushes my PC to the limit so I was unable to keep it running at 60FPS the whole through:

Does the setup you're using with the WaveBird not work with it? I'm assuming you followed this guide.

That can potentially be due to Dolphin's shader cache generation. It should go away after playing for a while.

You don't.

Is this massive performance hit and performance difference between windowed mode and full-screen mode really normal? It seems weird to me. Mario Galaxy runs perfectly fine with constant 60 FPS in windowed mode but is almost unplayable in full-screen.

Some games seem to be barely affected by this and run perfectly fine either way (1080p), btw. Xenoblade, for example, even with HD textures.

I tried this myself and Mario Galaxy 2 is running significantly better in windowed mode even when increasing the graphics settings. I think I messed something up when I unpacked a newer revision. Maybe I should try to back up my saves and delete Dolphin and then reinstall it.

Does anyone know if the WiiU controller pro can be used with Dolphin? I was thinking about playing the Dragon Quest 25th anniversary collection from disk. The game is probably playable with the Wii classic controller right?

You should be able to with software that can have it detected as a PC controller. Dolphin doesn't have native support for it or anything like that though.

I'm not 100% sure if this is what you meant but Dolphin cannot play games right off the disc. They need to be ripped first. I believe the Wii classic controller should work fine with it.

Someone has finally decided to tackle the shader compilation hitching issue. Phire is working on "ubershaders" which may finally mitigate the problem. Hopefully it pans out after it's tested.

Anyone else notice that the thread for Tomoya's Twilight Princess texture pack on the Dolphin forums just vanished? Anyone know what that's all about?

He had the thread deleted because he decided to make his own website dedicated to it instead. Since then he made a new forum thread to let people know the project wasn't dead. I don't understand the logic behind this but that's what happened.

Yep. I don't know why you wouldn't want a community freely following your work and promoting and spreading it around the internet on your behalf, but he wants things to go through his own site now. Maybe he wants more freedom and space to share his work than a single forum thread provides.... or maybe he wants some ad money.

How silly. As someone that wasn't really a fan of the artistic direction of the project to begin with, I was only casually interested in seeing the current progress because of the rumors of Twilight Princess HD. Probably will be less inclined to check it out now that he's removed it from the Dolphin forums as I'm not really that invested.

So I upgraded to Windows 10, downloaded the newest version of Dolphin, and when in 16:9 I have tiny black bars on the sides, like the world's most gentle pillarboxing. Is it something that changed with Dolphin itself? I read there were some fixes to aspect ratios all around. Has anybody else run into this issue or is it something on my end? I'm using a completely fresh install of Dolphin, i.e. no leftover My Documents\Dolphin settings.

They fixed aspect ratios, which means that some game that for whatever reason ran at 161:90 is doing so in Dolphin too. It's actually a correct implementation of what the game's developers intended.

That's what I suspected, thanks. It was just weird seeing those tiny little black bars.

Are there any Mac users who can successfully pair a real WiiMote to Dolphin?

I'm wondering if real WiiMote support is broken on Mac atm.
Completely not an answer to your question, but would like to know what specs your Mac is and how well Dolphin runs on it? I'm due to upgrade my 2006 iMac, and whilst I'm not getting it for primary gaming, hope to be able to run Dolphin on it.

So I'm trying to play through the Metroid Prime Trilogy and I'm getting really annoying sound issues in Prime. Popping and static noises, usually when there's a few enemies on screen at once. The Space Pirates and their turrets are particularly bad.

I have looked into it and all the fixes I've tried don't seem to work.

Anyone encountered something like this?

It's actually a Hackintosh, so unless that's a route you're interested in going, my specs aren't going to help you much :/

(I got Wiimotes working BTW, I'm not sure what was going on before)

So I was gonna play some Metroid Prime to see how far ahead the emulator's come and well, it's odd. It's reporting 60 FPS and 60 VPS, but the framerate is clearly locked at 30. Is it just some bug with the latest SVN or did I fuck some settings up? Never encountered this issue with Dolphin before.

I also have some problems with the later releases of Dolphin. Rogue Leader, for instance, is too slow, not running at full speed while before it was full speed with the same settings.

Has anyone tried DJ Hero 1 or 2 on Dolphin? I'm thinking about picking up the games and turntable for Wii, but the wiki entries for both games are pretty sparse on performance details.

Does the Wii Motion Plus controller still not work with Dolphin? And do I have to get the original Wii motion controller (without the plus expansion) instead?

No, it works, but it requires a bluetooth adapter compatible with Toshiba bluetooth stack. Well, kind of. You can force the drivers onto some adapters - I was able to do so with mine. Check out this page for more info: https://wiki.dolphin-emu.org/index.php?title=Wii_Remote_Plus_(RVL-CNT-01-TR)_Connection_Guide

Get a mayflash dolphin bar. It's a Wii sensor and Bluetooth adapter combined. It works perfectly with my motion plus wiimotes.

If you can, buy the dolphin bar. Never had any issue with connecting motion plus to it and it's simple to use.

I already have that but I have never used it, as I thought the Motion Plus controller didn't work with it. So they fixed that?

I shouldn't have sold it then, welp. Gotta find me a new Wii Motion Plus controller then.

So instead of using the completed Wii version, up-rezzing it, and releasing it on Wii U... they took the incomplete 3DS version and used that for the Wii U... what in the front door kind of decision is that?

the 3ds version is sort of a remake of the wii version, because you can't do motion controls on it. then they took that for wii u because at that point they wanted to promote their guys and not yuji naka i assume, but they kinda-sorta also needed to release the wii version too.

I'm having trouble trying to play any games in Dolphin all of a sudden, the emulator reports 60 VPS and 60 FPS, but I'm absolutely certain the games are running at 30 FPS, which sucks, I've deleted all of my settings twice over and looked at various settings to see what might be wrong but I can't find anything that explains it.

I just wanted to replay Metroid Prime in HD :(

The prime games aren't 60fps are they? I always thought they were 30fps.
