Star Wars: Battlefront | Review Thread | A disturbance in the force

I run around and shoot things, then people running around shoot me. The match ends. That is all the matches have felt like since playing it on Ea access.

It's really a solid 7/10. It almost mirrors Destiny in some ways with the lack of content at launch and everything feeling the same.

That's exactly how I felt in the beta.

And gamers caught in between the pricing/content conflict
with their GCU discounts don't give no fucks and just want to play Star Wars.

That's what we (PlayStation LifeStyle) are doing. We are missing out on a significant amount of traffic, but it's the right thing to do, I think.

We attended the review event, and was given a copy of the final PS4 retail build. Unfortunately, there was not enough players to even try Walker Assault, which is the game's bread and butter mode, right? Pushing it out once we get to play it how people will actually experience it. :)

On another note: I get the "lack of content" complaints, but man! Are you guys forgetting that this is the first FUN Star Wars game in a looooong while? Also, not sure about other sites, but a 7-8 score is a damn good one in my eyes. I enjoyed games that rated way lower.
It doesn't matter if it's Star Wars. If the game has no content to keep it going there is no point in paying full price.

I mean, to be fair, from my experience with the game is that it plays and has the features of a game from 1997 except with amazing graphics and sound, but a third of the content

what i'm saying is that it feels like the scores are appropriate. it's hard for me, personally, to not be disappointed with a clear lack of improvement within the genre standards themselves, especially after all this time. I love the buddy system, but even then, squads are not a new concept

With how harsh reviews have been this gen compared to previous, using the full ten scale. I would have gone with a six out of ten myself. Super repetitive after a few matches. Worth it when I can pick it up for 15 to 20 quid down the line

Such a weird game to look at reviews for. I just bought it cause I loved the beta and love star wars.

How long do I have to be vader!

well that is a lot lower than I was expecting. Yeeesh. I had an absolute blast with the beta. Wonder how much of an impact these scores will have on sales.

So? I'm paying $60 for this game, it damn well better be fun! Lackluster previous Star Wars outings should have no bearing on the rating of this one. This isn't a pity contest. Lack of content looks worse when you're pushing a $50 season pass packed to the brim with stuff.

I'm pretty positive that's how the majority of people looking forward to this game feel. The reviews aren't going to have any appreciable effect on sales.

I had fun in the beta though. Here it's like, so much of the same. I did all the training, played some missions and I am in bewilderment that there is nothing as fun here as INSTANT action heroes vs villain assault on mos eisley.
Nothing.

You'd be paying $80 for this game if it were 1995.

The highest review score has the weirdest reasonings behind it. The cons outweigh the pros, especially when the cons are so heavily against an enjoyable game. A nine is just odd when reading the review.

I hope that dice supports this game like they did battlefield 4. New maps still coming for that game. And free after they finished the premium stuff.

Love that OpenCritic colors the 3/5 range red.

Anyway, this is about the lukewarm (going ahead and assuming the pun has already been made a dozen times) reaction most seemed to expect. I'll pick it up physically, play until I'm bored and probably sell it, unless the season pass content starts to look appropriately beefy.

I think many many will. Its going to be one of those games were people can REALLY fall on some odd value with the title. I mean even if someone gets only 10 hours of fun. Thats 6 bucks an hour. Not shabby really.

I think a lot of people enjoyed Titanfall when it came out for what it was. No harm there.

POP?

Are those the chibi looking figures?

Its those little Vinyl Bobblehead type figures you see in Hot Topic and Gamestop and stuff. They are about 4 inches tall or so. Its pretty cool for a freebie.

I got this one!

Knowing DICE now, especially the head on in Sweden, they'd rather put out content before they fix their game. Just look at BF4. Which took it at least a year and a half to fix server and net code issues (or most of them). Hell, the netcode issues were pushed off to DICE LA and Visceral.

The only reason they supported it for so long was due to the horrific state it was in. I wouldn't expect updates once the last piece of DLC has been pushed out.

So will this stay in the 70's or drop into the 60 range? Would be bad to be in a 60 metacritic. Would affect sales. This game should have been 40 dollars or have halos model and offer free maps. Looks like an absolute rip off at full price with a season pass

Nothing.

Don't even remind me. GOAT game mode.

Little intricacy- everyone can heal via med droids, but only Han (I think) has a fusion cutter. If you're playing as the heroes, just go wipe out the villain med droids and they're done.

I can't help but feel that if they were a proper SP campaign the scores might be a *little* bit higher.

I agree, even if it was a 4-5 hour QTE fest. Cinematic experience linear campaign is exactly what I want out of a Star Wars shooter, as there hasn't been anything similar since Republic Commando.

This was a really well done review IMO, Gamespot I always find to be honest with both pros and cons of games. I'm definitely sold on getting the game.

I know many see it as a negative, but I am glad to have a online shooter without all the unlocks. It makes things too complicated for me IMO. Also funny how better players are the ones with the advantage in those cases. I still think the game should have a campaign though.

I am having a ton of fun with the game right now (no issues with me yet on PC), but I can totally get behind all of these reviews (especially the giantbomb one).

This will for sure keep me entertained until the movie; I can't imagine playing much longer after that, however.

Excited to see how this sells.

72 overall, I was expecting high 70s or low 80s. Regardless, I'm still excited to get my copy tomorrow. Love Star Wars and this is the first Star Wars game in a long time. I was worried about the longevity of it a while back and I guess I was right. Curious to see how many people will still be playing next year and beyond.

Bf4's issues were blown out of proportion. I played that game for like 40 hours in the beta and another 200 on pc and rarely had crashes or issues.

The console versions were a little rougher though.

Bought the game and premium on pc and ps4. No regrets.

I like the battlefield feel of this game. The spectacle.

The old battlefront games were OK but they felt even more thrown together than this does to me. They were at least as multiplayer focused.

I think I am also thankful that the game doesn't seem to be reskinned Battlefield, which was my biggest fear when DICE was announced as the developer.

I can see why a lot of people wouldn't want to pay $60 for this. It doesn't appeal to modern shooter audiences (no XP and unlocks) and seems to be short on maps. With GCU though it's an easy decision for me.

Hopefully this is a wake up call to the big publishers that there is a limit to how simple and streamlined you can make a game.

Blizzard is another company that desperately need to hear that feedback, in my personal opinion.
