Can someone give me a brief explanation of how terminal passwords thing works? I just got the game and must have glazed over it in the tutorial.

I just realized I could have used Stealth Boy to take the Power Armor at the Wreckage site. Oh well. More out there. Finally home, time to play.

Swiped the idea off reddit to turn the Red Rocket into my PA garage. I think I am going to need a bigger garage tho...

Now that's a good idea

You're playing "Hangman" with the words in the character dump and trying to find the right word to "solve" the hack.

Pick a word, will tell you how many letters off of the correct word it is. Basically just logically intuit what the correct word is from there.

Along with that, in the ASCII dump of gibberish if you find a string that is "opened" and "closed" with like ASCII characters, you can highlight it and it will either remove an incorrect word from the dump or refresh your tries. So if you see something like [- - - ], select the first character and it will highlight the entire block denoting that you found one of these special strings. It can be either [ ], ( ), < >, or { } set of characters. Also if you remove a "dud" word using this method, you can potentially open up more of these highlightable blocks because the words that get removed turn into . . . . and you can possibly get something like ( / ! . . . . . ) which will be valid.

If you run out of tries, the terminal is locked out but will be rehackable after 15 or so seconds. I find it easiest to proc the hack, pick a few words, and if you've got a bunch of 0 like words, just reset by backing out and restarting so you can at least try and have a starting point instead of just have 1 try left. Although sometimes a chunk of very different 0 like words can be just as helpful.

I have....I even have pray and spray. Thing is I also die nice and fast -.-

Are you wearing power armor?
As for the hacking mini game, eh..it's terrible. I don't bother upgrading my hacking skills but if I really have to hack a novice terminal, I usually just pick the first 3 words, exit, and try the first 3 words again. Repeat until successful.

I'm at the main story quest called
Mass fusion
. Anyone that can tell me how far along I am in the story roughly? 80-90%?

You're close to the end.

LiQuid!

I proudly and openly admit to wishing death upon the mothers of people I don't like

Yeah, that's where I got the idea. I got thrown off by the elevation change so didn't think to add stairs and raise the room up for more space. When I get more suits I'll take on that project.

Well the Railroad quest is rather obtuse. You may get it, but don't know it will lead to it. If you want to skip it for the time being, don't do
"Follow the Freedome Trail"
.

Welp, glad I didnt even start that one yet. Got it randomly and assumed it was a meaningless sidequest so I nearly started it.

Played this for about 20+ hours and I feel like I've gotten nowhere. *stares at weapon modding and settlements.* lol

Dilemma of the century.

Do I switch to a sturdy chameleon combat armor chest piece I just got,

Or do I stay with me sweet looking full heavy leather outfit.

On the one hand sure, chameleon sounds like it might be useful when I'm trying to disappear. On the other hand my sneak is so high and everything is darkened, so the heavy armor doesn't hurt my sneaking ability and I can already wreck the shit out of people with blitz.

Fashion is important man. Stick with the leather.

The main quest sends me to the
glowing sea
, but when I arrive there it instantly leads me to the
crater of atom
. Maybe because I have already explored the entire map? What is supposed to happen at the first location?

I felt the Settlement thing didn't give enough return for the investment. I'd say delay it if you find it tedious. Its never a priority. You just have to go back to defend it in case it's under attack.

its supposed to lead you to the crater of atom, you have to speak to someone there.

so I need to enable the downloading of the (beta) patch or will it download automatically?

On Steam you have to opt in to beta patches in the game's properties, so it won't be automatic. I'm sure they'll announce when it's out and they'll have the exact details on how to trigger the update.

by the way - i got the thing flying overhead because Piper said something but I have NFI where it is or where to go. The vapour trail didn't even last more than like 20 seconds. Where the fuck did it go? How can I find it?

So i cant progress pipers side quest story of the century. Says to go meet piper. Every time i go meet her at her place it just asks if i want her to be my companion. Or is that how I progress it? Her voice annoys me. Really dont want her as a companion at all.

Just because shes your companion doesnt mean you have to use her

East of Oberland Station. Make sure to fillow the blood trail also

where are you people getting so much power armor???

yo man, them shits are every damn wear. You can get power armor literally 5 minutes after leaving vault 111. There's one that damn close, just sitting there, collecting dust. And I aint even talking about the one you get from the story either.

If you explore a lot, you'll run into them sooner or later. But if all you do is follow mission quest markers, then, your not gonna have a good time with finding power armor.

shotgun ammo. why is it so hard to find?

any tips?

No tips, there isnt much. I "only" have about 450-500 100 hours in and having finished the game, compared to 1500 for most other types.

Shotgun, Plasma, Gauss Tifle ammo and magnum ammo (.45 or whatever it is) are the rarest because not a lot of npcs use them

Just buy your ammo and sell the ammo you don't need + legendary items. That's how I could always buy whatever I want and have enough ammo of everything.

Starlight is now a garish nightmare of paintings of people I don't know... But the happiness is on the up. 96 now with an up arrow.... It just takes about 3 weeks of waiting every time to move it up another point now... Last goddamn trophy then I never have to deal with building again and I can just go explore more.

I don't really use the power armour mainly because I am exploring.

Not going to waltz around in it heh. Unless there is a way to charge cores later. My shotgun does 78 and I have a spray and pray. My sniper sucks does like fifty.

I have only seen one legendary and he dropped a melee weapon. I am on very hard.

Don't remember my stats but my perks are:

Scraper lvl 1
Scrounger lvl 2
Lockpicking lvl 1
Idiot savant lvl 2
Gun nut lvl 2
Science lvl 1

I am level 15 with a few unspent perk points and 25+ hours played. Just got to diamond city. My damage and damage taken both suck lol. Just realized companion perk so trying to get Prestons.

Other than that I am stuck in a rut.

When I get into building I'm going to rep Greygarden. It has a ridiculous Z-Limit.

I think there might be a bug with your companions at Grey Garden. I can only get one to spawn in at a time, and they'll do literally nothing besides stand in a single spot of the Garden. Led to a moment where C
urie
was nowhere in the world because D
eacon
was stuck standing on her spawn.
