It was one game. Meanwhile we're getting a ton games now from genres, publishers and regions traditionally under represented on PC. So weird bruh.

One game??

One piece, samurai warriors 4-2, dynasty warriors 8 empires, XL?

Off the top of my head of course. All of those recent, and all of them come from a very familiar company.

I'm still pissed about those games, especially since they lied or pretended to not know what type of game they were releasing on PC.

Weird to say during the year with the Arkham Knight disaster.

I absolutely love it when people bring up one bad PC version out of the dozens released this year to discount PC gaming. If I were to start listing games with poor performance on consoles I could whip up a fairly long list. How about our latest post apocalyptic WRPG that constantly dips below 20 FPS on both consoles? Come on, mate.

Is this game good? Not a musou? Or is it one?

They swear it's not a musou, but apparently it's the best musou game that's come out in years. I was hoping to get a PS4 soon so I was on media lockdown on it, so... yeah. I heard it's got a lot more RPG elements to it than a typical Musou game.

Imagine something like Hyrule Warriors, but DQ. I think you'll be passing on this game, then.

I can't. Haven't played Hyrule Warriors. :p

I would read reviews, but I'm at work and only Neogaf works here. From your post, sounds like it's a Musou game then.

Interested to know this as well. If it's just arena like as Musou with a DQ coat I'll pass. If it's a full fledge JRPG, I'm in.
i would say its jRPG with musou-like battles instead of usual turn-based
from polygon
So Dragon Quest Heroes is a slow, epic role-playing game crammed into the shape of a lean, seemingly shallow action title. It exchanges the fantasy of methodical turn-based combat against a small group of opponents for slashing through hundreds of enemies a minute. It seems at odds with itself.

It's also a blast, far and away one of the most interesting games to come out of the Dynasty Warriors mold.
......
. Instead of fighting legions of the same nameless soldiers, Dragon Quest's bestiary provides dozens of different monsters, many of whom force you to modify your strategy (if only slightly) as you go. If you just mash buttons into a knight holding up a giant shield, your attacks are not going to have much effect. Flying enemies require waiting until they've lowered to the ground to unleash your attacks. And certain giant enemies, like cyclopes and trolls, can be difficult to defeat unless you use strategically placed cannons on the battlefield to weaken them.

Yeah. It's not a Musou-Musou as Dynasty Warriors. But it's much closer to a Musou than a proper JRPG, that's for sure. Plotwise and in terms of progression, at least.

Thanks guys.

I don't hate Musou games. They have interesting settings and a fairly fun formula, but it's so janky and mindless that I lose interest quickly.

More Musou-like.
You primarily have an area or NPC you must prevent from being defeated. For that you traverse the map to defeat a unit of enemies and their summoner, at the same time you can leave units to help defend your NPC or area. There's a little management involved, but the combat is Musou-based.

If anything, one of Kiryl's abilities is casting Whack and Thwack :p

Just don't play the game in long bursts, maybe 30 mins. or 1 hour intervals and you're golden.

I will say that later stages look to be quite difficult if you don't plan your offensive etc. :X

Yeah..
I generally have fun with them for the first two hours or so, then everything starts to get repetitive...

I might actually check this one out just to support further Square ports to PC and I've never played a game in this genre before.

If it doesn't support resolutions >1080p, I'm refunding instantly. Going to spend the extra money for the Steam version to have this ability.

Watched a few videos and liked what I saw. Specially the big boss fights that evoke a little bit of Monster Hunter. Are they frequent?

They're pretty back-loaded. There are a lot of boss fights at the end of the game and not so many before that.

I was so busy on DOTA 2 and NBA / NFL threads the past few days that I never knew this was coming to PC.

Edit: Wait, was this announced a while ago? or just now?

Announced recently but Steam updated before the announcement with a pre-purchase page.

for me, It got very boring and tedious. All you're doing, like 80% of the time, is defending something, be it a stationary object or a really stupid A.I. The game really would've benefited from co-op play or if not at least some way to order your A.I. partners around.

I say this as someone that Platinumed it today. The mission design is atrociously bad, probably the worst I have experienced in a Musou game ever. Extremely grindy sidequests, little to no challenge until the endgame.

Post-game was alright, had a lot better and harder quests, but man does most of the story campaign suck. There's no difficulty selection, so the vast majority is just piss easy. I literally, without exaggeration, fell asleep while playing. I eventually just stopped applying skill points and getting new items just to make the game a bit more engaging. Then that all gets thrown out the window when you figure out Terry's stunlock combo.

It's sad, because it makes a number of good improvements to the formula and it could be way better with the sequel, I just was bored to tears playing it, and I like Musou games.

I think, put next to Hyrule Warriors, DW8, and Warriors Orochi 3, I'd recommend those three games first before I'd recommend DQH.

Good grief, I guess I'll skip this one for now. I like challenge a lot. that stinks.

As someone who's played all these games.. yeah i agree, I do hope we still get DQH2 though with some changes, I'd like to see why theres a need for 4 player co-op (online) added, since with the current setup it'd just be a useless gimick. I'd recommend this at a $30 or less price though.

I also agree. The game bored me to tears, I didn't even finish it. I got to the last bit of the game and then quit, I couldn't muster the willpower to continue.

I was just looking at the store page on Steam, and I'm afraid we're going to have to refund it:

Graphics options supported for high end PCs:

Rendering resolution
Shadow processing
Glare adjustment
Turning movie scene playback on and off
Number of characters displayed
Draw distance
Texture Quality
Support for both full-screen and windowed display modes
Support for a maximum frame rate of 60fps
Support for full HD display at a maximum resolution of 1920 x 1080

It sounds like it'll be a 1:1 PS4 port.

So I refunded this for $60 at my gamestop but then got it on amazon digital for $17 and I'm actually enjoying the game. It's a nice break from Bloodborne.

Pfff. Will stick to the PS4 version. No point buying it again if it doesn't even support my monitors native res of 1440p.

If it's like One Piece, half the graphical options won't even work, too.

ItsTheNew

I believe any game made before 1997 is "essentially cave man art."
I started off really liking this game but I've crossed into about 8 hrs and it has lost its charm for me. Gets way too repetitive mission wise, and the story hooks aren't there.

Yeah I think those settings are OK, KOEI Tecmo games do run fine but it's their visual presentation that leaves so much to be desired.

Oh and there's a few trades ofering the pre-order for $40 if anyone's interested, was looking through Steamtrades.com and saw them.

Yea if it's actually 1080p and 60 FPS with the graphical fidelity of the PS4 version I'd consider that a step up from normal for them.

Yeah, people have made me expect much worse than that. 1080p60fps is good enough for me. No resolution lock or framerate cap would be better, obviously, but I'm still on a 60hz 1080p monitor and my current rig was built accordingly. I don't expect I'll be going higher than that anytime soon.

Considering it's a Tecmo Koei port, that's much better than what people would expect lol

Can't say I disagree. It requires DX11, so I'm speculating it's a PS4 port based on the fact that both Toukiden and Bladestorm are PS4 ports that also require DX11. All other Koei Tecmo games on Steam are DX9 IIRC.
