Global Game Awards winners for 2015 announced

Smh @ witcher 3. I'm so disgusted by that choice. Glad a lot of other games got to shine in other lists.

Makes no sense w3 got most innovative. Innovative what?! Combat? Jesus christ.

Dying light, rocket league, mgsv and fallout are my personal faves and I can't even believe they made it. Wow. Especially f4, that game has it rough nowadays.

Witcher 3 is a huge leap forward in open world game design, successfully merging traditional RPG elements seamlessly into an open world. It doesn't feel like an open world game so much as it feels like another Witcher RPG. No one else has done this, or even tried to; it's a huge accomplishment to make the jump to open world without sacrificing anything about the previous, non-open world, games.

Personally, I think Witcher 3 has set the bar for open world RPGs, and I doubt it'll be surpassed for many years.

I'm perfectly ok with the GOTY but...

1) Undertale isn't even NOMINATED for Best Comedy? I'm about an hour in and it's already one of the funniest games I've ever played.

2) GTA Online for Best Multiplayer? Give me a break, it's had releases for the past two years, give it to something else. Yes it came out on PC this year but since the awards TEND to focus on PC instead of ONLY focusing on PC up to this point, GTAV should have been the choice last year and omitted this year.

3) Halo 5 and Black Ops 3 aren't even nominated for Best Co-op? Those games were built with co-op in mind and turned out pretty great in that department.

There are other things that are very questionable as well but I'm not going to bother.

So cool to see Undertale getting mentions, such a sweet little game kinda surprising to see it in consideration for awards. Witcher 3 was fun, though I never fully got pulled into the Gameplay loop and haven't played it for more than 15 hours. I know I'll get back to it someday though.

Wait.... The Witcher 3 was more innovative than Splatoon? What exactly did Witcher 3 do new? I do find Splatoon wasn't as innovative as some people make it out to be but was Witcher 3 even innovative at all? I can't think of a single thing Witcher 3 did that I hadn't seen in games already...

EDIT: I'm also not convinced Splatoon is a good game for children, there is literally "people" blowing up all over the place every second. Even if there is no blood red team color, meaning no one blows up into red splats, it really is as violent as say Battlefront...

The only thing I would knock Witcher 3 for is the absolutely garbage hand to hand combat. It fucking blows donkey balls and it's even worse when Geralt faces up against multiple opponents in doors.

The game is quite awesome all things considered.

the witcher 3 was the first game to really nail the open world along with seamless RPG mechanics, imo

also splatoon is a wonderful game for kids

OK then. I'm curious what your personal opinion on dragon age: Inquisition is?

I mention dai because it's layout is similar (interconnected lands making up one "world"). The combat imo is better in dai. The lore is also more interesting to me. There also didn't seem to be any sacrifices made either in the latest outing. It just works.

It also has a character creator, which helps when talking about a role playing game because you are building a character from scratch.

Not saying dai deserved to be up there tho... I'm just curious what you think (if you played it even).

I wish I felt the hype everyone felt / feels for The Witcher III. I just don't have anything there for it. Put hours into it and just gave up because I stopped caring. This is an interesting list.

I've played all of them and I'd put Undertale along Tales.
Hey more power to you. At least you've played them all so you can have a legitimate opinion!

I dunno I find there are plenty of open-world rpgs from years ago that played better than Witcher 3 while also having a more interesting, immersive world. My opinion.

As for Splatoon being a wonderful kids game, yea, let's get kids playing games where you can blow people up and they respawn shortly after. The game is no more of a kids game than Battlefront or the online in COD. Sure COD's campaign has swearing which Splatoon has none of, but they all seem equivalently violent to me...

GameStream + GRID (lets you play games like The Witcher III) + 4k media consumption + Android games/emulators + Native games like Talos Principle, DOOM 3, Hotline Miami 2, Soul Calibur HD, Tales from the Borderlands, etc. It also has games like Borderlands Pre Sequel, MGR, RE5, etc coming to it. It's nowhere near as bad as people seem to think.

ok

Probably not at Giantbomb though. I expect MGS V or Mario Maker, both equally way above Fallout 4.

I meant just in comparison to Fallout 4. Both open world RPGs and Witcher seems to be considered better by most. If you like big open worlds, chances are Witcher impressed you more.

I do think Witcher will probably win more GOTYs than any other game, followed by MGSV.(though i would highly disagree with that) Undertale is truly the GOTY though.

Honestly, Tales might edge out Undertale but both have very different kinds of humor. TftB is much more in-your-face while Undertale's comedy is based in how subtle it is.

Opinion is what every list like this boils down to, to be fair. Personally, my GOTY is Ori and the Blind Forest, but it barely even made a single list on this.

Splatoon's brand of violence is cartoony and kid friendly. While the core mechanics of shooting are incredibly similar, the aesthetic, atmosphere and repercussions to death are about as equal to letting Aeris getting stabbed through the gut with a sword versus having your Pokemon faint. There's a disconnect to being defeated in Splatoon that isn't quite as strongly there in ultraviolent FPS games like Black Ops 3.

Alright, good discussion, great points

I think Bloodborne and Mario Maker will come out with a lot more GOTY awards than people expect

Spirited

Mine is pretty and pink
I actually don't expect Fallout 4 to take home that many awards either . Witcher 3 will probably eat them all up.
And of fallout 4 wins a lot of awards I'll be there to criticise their decision.

Wouldn't want a sandbox game with shit writing winning goty or best RPG rewards.

Pokemon doesn't always seem to be presenting kids with good morals either... Splatoon reminds me of Happy Tree Friends... Maybe I'm just a bitter old man who's only 23...

For publications with "Comedy" awards, that might be the difference I guess. The interpretation ofUndertale's subtler comedic value. Tales probably just even springs more quickly to mind because of how obviously a comedy game it is.

I mean, depending on how you play Undertale it practically turns into a horror game, but even then the game plays with dark humor while making you feel bad.

It's a game I hope gets a good amount of attention this award season.

BEST SHOOTER
1. Star Wars: Battlefront
2. Wolfensteni: The Old Blood
3. Call of Duty: Black Ops 3
4. Battlefield: Hardline

Holy shit at Battlefront winning Best Shooter! So many naysayers about its old school arcadey gameplay. Clearly the majority disagree.

BEST HORROR GAME
1. Until Dawn
2. Dying Light
3. Soma
4. Stasis

Yay Until Dawn! So glad this game is doing well.

...for me, it's all invalidated by a few KEY omissions:

1) Monster Hunter 4 is not included in any of the lists; it's a fantastic online or co-op game. The current biggest series in JP gets omitted because it's handheld?

2) No 3DS or Vita games are included: Did Majoras Mask or Xenoblade Chronicles on a handheld not happen this year? One of these was practically begged of Nintendo; the other is a breakthrough compaction for a mobile-handheld experience.

3) N3DS was a great piece of hardware this year. Admittedly stopgap, but the stable 3D is a revelation for the tech.

4) How is NX not included for most anticipated 2016?!?!

"NOTE: KEEP IN MIND THESE AWARDS ALWAYS HAVE MORE FOCUS ON PC THAN CONSOLES, THOUGH THEY DO INCLUDE CONSOLES."

it's literally glaring red, very first sentence at the very top of the OP

also NX isn't confirmed for next year

I'm sorry, but there is NO WAY in hell Fallout 4 is a better "Sci fi" game then Soma.

Soma's storyline, the thoughts, the atmosphere, are faaaaaar more memorable then Fallout 4's storyline and cliched characters.

Soma is the type of game that you will play and actually think about the storyline and what happened, one of those few games (Like sanitarium, Syberia, Last of Us, etc) that will leave a lasting impression long after you've finished it.

Whereas Fallout 4 , much like most other TES games, is a great fun open world game to explore in with many faults and writing that is "meh" at best.

I think bloodborne should be higher but whatevs. I also think bloodborne sound design and soundtrack is underrated. They don't have a doing track list tho? Or is that counted under best audio?
