Given the choice between a manual or some kind of small artbook, which would people prefer?

Manual sounds kinda scary because it's a lot more design intensive because you have to try to communicate how to play the game, and people probably just mostly care about art?

Also could got full Japanese LE with some pencil boards or something like that.

I'd personally care about art. But I'm just one of the peoples.

An art book, especially if it had a ton of development sketches, sounds a lot more interesting than a manual would be.

Artbook for sure

So you estimate the art compendium is gonna be around or more than 6 GB, this includes all the background stuff yeah, not just frame art and extras?

Also if you somehow manage to fit in the best parts of this project to make a physical artbook I'd buy it like ASAP.

Rght now we're thinking it might be what we're calling an "art manual."

i.e. It's the fun stuff from old manuals like story overview, monster art, item art, descriptions, etc. but without the How To Game stuff that is a lot harder to write and layout, etc.

The Skullgirls DAC was 6 gigs, and Indivisible's will have at least as much animation, and more environment and production and concept art.

I support this notion!

Art manual!

Well, this pace probably won't last throughout the night, but the campaigns been averaging roughly 10K for hour for the past few hours. The whole campaign would be funded before most people woke up tomorrow if things kept up at this pace the night through.

I think Lab Zero's got this now, but I'll save my formal congratulations until things are fully funded. *knocks on wood.*

Sounds like a fun compromise. :D

Please go old school and put blatant lies in it.

Man, it's been a long ass fifty-seven days. I'm a hawk when it comes to Lab Zero and even I can't imagine how a successful ending will feel. I think the one thing I'll be able to understand is the incoming schadenfreude when the trolls and legit haters start thrashing around. Today might be another $90k+ day at this rate. Can't wait to see how it develops come morning.

I probably shouldn't be saying this, since it could be seen as confirming anything...

But all of these animation cost estimates are way off.

First, opening animation is much higher quality, and thus more expensive.

Also, budgeting for only an opening makes it much more expensive than any of those averages. Because you basically have to do a comparable amount of preproduction to that needed for a whole series, even though it's supporting only a few minutes of animation.

In that case couldn't you have as an option a studio animating all the cutscenes then, if they're already doing most of the preproduction work? Ala Xenogears.

What is this "manual" of which you speak? It sounds like an ancient relic from a long-gone civilization.

Definitely art book/manual over instructions.

I would definitely prefer a small artbook. But I would be happy with either.

Well that was one hell of a jump. They went from being 250K+ down to within 75K in like a day. WTF happened?

Best guess is that people that were holding off are now paying in.
Even though if it didn't succeed, you get refunded, IGG still holds onto the money from the moment you pay, and some people don't like that.

Eat it haters and non-believers! I knew this project would make it when it was at 400k. This is a sure thing now. Congrats Lab Zero! Congrats Ravi!

I guess hype and the final push happened.

Or..

Maybe..

This is on pace for the game to fund at the most awkward point in the middle of the night when no one will be around to see it.

How're the few Incarnations left to be revealed going to be handled now that we're just blowing past the milestones?

We have two finished ones left, and... those might be it? We'll see.

Keep in mind that when we started this campaign that the plan was one Incarnation every $100k. And keeping up with the increased pace has been tough.

A small artbook would be ace, akin to those Japanese series "guide books". You could have art with mini-bios for some main characters and locales.

I missed this post, but this is exactly what I was thinking about.

Bah this art-manual talk is making me want to upgrade to a physical version, but I game on two PS4s (one at my place and one at my parent's house) so digital makes so much more sense...

Either way super excited to see this funded, huge fan of Lab Zero after the Skullgirls campaign and DLC. Honestly, I backed that campaign before even owning Skullgirls because I liked what I saw so much, and all the behind the scenes and streams made me feel so much like a part of everything.

Not to mention Skullgirls and Indivisible have the greatest art style.

The $60 tier includes a digital copy, as well. And you can mix and match the platforms, if you like.

Wow, as I was writing this your post made my decision even easier. Upped to $60, LOVE when the physical reward includes a digital code as well!

Just an idea, but it could be cool to go the Rockstar route and have the manual/art book be stylized like an in-game book. Like some encyclopedia that perhaps Ajna's father would have read to her to teach her about the world or something like that

Maybe alt-costumes for stretch goals, haha.

I really can't imagine which characters are left to reveal. The cast is so diverse and wonderful.
The only archetype I think would be "missing" from the Indie GoGo lineup would be like.. tall, big-bellied and warm "mentor" character.
Maybe we'll see a few more unique cultures represented, like old Celts, Inuits and the like.

I don't think I've been wanting a full artbook for a game as much, as when I played FFXII for the first time.
The character designs and their back stories are so great.

Too lazy to google that one sparkly-eye emoticon, but pretend that's here.

So like I can go ps4 physical and steam digital? would love a vita version but would understand if thats not possible.

Is there a physical artbook? I see a digital one for like 75 buck tier

Say what? That's awesome!

It's right there in the thing, and always has been!

But, yes, I expect that there will be people that don't want to actually open the physical version. So they can play the code instead.

No Vita. The system can barely handle Skullgirls, and this game is more intensive than that.

...Also, Vita will be deader than dead by the time we're done. :\

And no physical artbook now, but we're thinking there will be an art-focused manual in the backer-exclusive physical version. A full artbook is such a huge commitment that it'd delay everything.
