Now that the dust has settled a little bit (I hope?), lets talk about how freaking amazing this whole scene is. Just wow. Naughty Dog are truly one of a kind. The animations, the writing, the cinematography, the music, the seamless transition to gameplay (I am sure it is a melee fight sequence), the entire direction is amazing.

You're right, and this isn't some Redneck developer in the South stereo typing. The character is a sophisticated black female who is strong, intelligent and can kick the shit out of Drake. That is awesome just like it was in TLoU with Marlene (you know trying to fucking save humanity).
It's Naughty Dog for Christs sake, no one here is going to not buy the game over something as stupid as this when this happens all the time in the VA industry.

Depends on when the voicing decisions were made, but Laura and Travis got married in 2011, with TLoU releasing in 2013.
The belief she's not qualified on her own and it's only via her relationship she got the job is mind-boggling. It's freaking Laura Bailey for crying out loud.

Yeah the cinematography impressed me quite a bit. The dolly out and low angle on Nadine in the doorway after she tosses Nate aside, cut to her legs in the foreground as she's taking off her shoes as Nate is recovering on the ground, and then the high angle behind the back shot of her advancing on him. It makes her seem intimidating as hell and really emphasizes the physicality of the scene.

Looks like a great character. The graphics are damned impressive, too, great facial animation, lighting, etc.
If people are this upset over who's doing the VO, I don't want to see the controversy the impending fight scene will cause if Nathan Drake actually punches her, even if she looks like she's more-than-capable of handling herself in a scrape.

Having different people play totally different characters doesn't matter when it comes to mocap or voice work (Gollum, always masked characters in real movies, etc.) The only thing that matters is the sound and motion work.
When you have to totally paint peoples skin, they look crazy, and it's not meant to look odd (Tropic Thunder) then it gets weird. Conan had Aziz Ansari on his show recently, where he talked about the Indian dude on Short Circuit. He didn't realize the guy was white until he tried to find him later in life or something.
I doubt the game industry can't be as bad as Hollywood, I'm sure all kinds of people get work for voice acting (though the two top guys may get a lot of the good stuff). Laura Baily is a well connected voice actor, and she must have impressed ND enough to get the part. That doesn't matter though again because of the nature of voice work, and being able to play any kind of character.

One of the reasons I'm not quick to jump on this is because the VO might have been the best fit. Isn't the quality something that was at play with Mike Colter and Halo, or am I misremembering? I went into Jessica Jones thinking he wasnt a good actor because of the concerns over his voice acting in an early series but those concerns were quickly put to rest.

Just like I'm sure when James Earl Jones tried out for Vader's voice, they told David Prowse he could fuck off, and rightfully so. Jones was much better for that character's voice.
