Didnt the "Console exclusive " titles mean it could come out on PC?

Both phrases indicate a PC release to me; the difference comes down to the matter of the game releasing on competing console platforms. I don't know why there seems to be an increasingly prevailing opinion that "console debut" in particular points to a release on other console platforms in lieu of the PC.

Hm..

I just remember on the last Sony conference in Paris they had differences in the wording. There was sth. like exclusive on PS4, which meant its exclusive to PS4 and console-exclusive, which meant its also on PC and PS4.

So I am wondering whether they try to put it on PC now. Would be nice.

My PC has a single video card with HDMI, DVI, and DisplayPort out. Monitor has HDMI-in only. I have a TV with HDMI-in. I'm trying to have the PC output to the monitor and TV simultaneously (mirrored, not two monitors). Right now I unplug and swap HDMI cables but it's a bit annoying. I'd rather just have constant output. What's my best bet? External HDMI splitter, so I have one cable from PC to splitter and two from splitter to output devices? Use a DVI-to-HDMI or DisplayPort-to-HDMI cable on the video card? I need sound to be carried to both destinations, I use my monitor's speakers. I also care about efficiency, so whatever is the solution that uses the least electricity and wastes the least is best for me. Thanks for your advice.

So I just finished Shadow Complex Remastered - the game is legit guys. Honestly, probably my third favorite Metroid-vania game of all time, behind only Super Metroid and Symphony of the Night. There is so much stuff to do and collect, tons of secrets and things, and even whole sections of the story you can miss/skip. There are even (technically) multiple endings.

I'm really glad this game has come to PC. And it's free so you should all be playing it.

It's a cool game. I won't use Epic Games Launcher so I haven't checked, but did the challenge rooms make it intact? The leaderboard elements of the game on 360 were great. I still haven't quite grinded out level 50 even after like 5 or 6 game completions (speed-run, alternate ending, multiple 100% runthroughs) hahah

Yeah I was just messing around. About 6 years ago now I sold almost everything I owned and packed up the rest and drove across the country - literally as far away as I could from where I grew up because that place was absolutely terrible. I don't regret it one bit. I kinda like it here, but this country has some serious problems. I've actually been giving some thought to moving to yours once both my kids are out of college (about 4 years from now). Seems nice there.

I really think almost anyone can benefit from moving to a different country, or to somewhere unfamiliar. The sense of perspective helps you appreciate your home more for its strengths while also exposing you to the different ways life can be. My home wasn't bad, but I'm really glad I'm here now. I have mixed feelings about America as a whole, but I am very grateful for the opportunity I have here and there's much to love about this country's people, spirit, food, diversity, nature, and culture... and for me living in a city that's one of the cultural capitals of the world has been a blessing... and not just because I got called a drug dealer on national TV. I have no idea where I'll end up next. There are so many states here I haven't explored yet... and so many countries outside America. Maybe Scotland or Iceland or Norway, I've always wanted to live even further north than I grew up. Or maybe New Zealand or Australia, both of which I love. Vegemite is cool. Who knows, maybe my wife will leave me and I'll bum around from country to country. Life has a funny way of throwing weird opportunities at you.

For anyone reading who is unhappy at home and considering some drastic move to change things in their life, I recommend it highly. Any opportunity you can get to live abroad--an exchange program, grad school, being a mail-order husbando, whatever--do it.

If anyone is in my neck of the woods, I'd be happy to grab a beer or play some You Don't Know Jack.

PS4 Console Exclusive - Game will be released only on PS4 console and it can be released on PC

PS4 Console Debut - Game will be released on PS4 first but it will come to other consoles later and PC version can be released day 1 with PS4

You moved to LA to school right? (last I checked).

My plan is to move to LA to work, but it feels more like a pie in the sky dream right now more than anything because I haven't looked at the logistics or requirements of moving from Toronto to LA, even though I really should be.

tales from the boredlands continues to be really entertaining. went through episodes 2 and 3 today, there's still lots of wonky walking around and qte'ing but i don't think i even hate it as much as i initally did

granted the game could be much better without it but the action scenes are fun to watch and easy so it's no big deal

i really like how the game pokes fun at telltale themselves quite a lot, it's genuinely funny and clever, and also really juvenile sometimes in that saints row 3 kind of way, i kind of love that these comedy games are popping up here and there, even in places we wouldn't ever have imagined them like fps diablo spinoffs and gta clones gone crazy

Fortunately, my TV has a DVI plugin, so I just plug my video card directly to it via a DVI cable. HDMI is mainly for my TV, but I also unplug it sometimes when I want to turn my PS3 on (which gets more rare these days).

My understanding is this

PS4 Exclusive/Only on PS/PS4 - Game will be released only on PlayStation platform (PS3/PS4/PS Vita)

PS4 Console Exclusive - Game will be released only on PS4 console and it can be released on PC

PS4 Console Debut - Game will be released on PS4 first but it will come to other consoles later and PC version can be released day 1 with PS4

In my opinion, console debut can also mean it's not going to come to PC, it's just may be coming to other console(s). The more convincing one is console exclusive, which mean it's guaranteed will be on PC as well at some point, but not on any other console.

The thing is, companies try to make games sound the most exclusive they can, and then they add qualifiers to cover what else the game could come to. So "debut" is a qualifier that means that the game can come elsewhere at a later date, and "console" is a qualifier that means the game can come to other, non-console platforms.

"console debut" uses both qualifiers, so it should mean that it is coming to non-console platforms (presumably day and date), and also other consoles at a later date.

If they just meant that it would come to other consoles later, they wouldn't have added the "console" qualifier. They would have just said "debuting exclusively for PS4", which sounds more impressive.

That odd feeling when you first go down stairs in the morning, see some odd shoes in the hallway that don't belong to any of the occupants here and then find a stranger asleep on the sofa in the living room. And here was me thinking I was the irresponsible one. Not that I mind or care I just want to play Xenoblade but the bloody WiiU is in there :(

Doesn't windows throw a fit trying to stream audio to more than one device at the same time? Regards to efficiency I know for a fact connecting another display to any GPU I've used when monitoring my PC's wattage from the wall adds ~15w just on the desktop and a little more when given a uniquie signal like streaming a video. No idea if an unpowered HDMI splitter would draw more power than connecting 2 unique displays to your PC but that will definately handle audio to 2 sources without having to use 3rd party applications.

Yeah, that would be more appropriate, and more impressive indeed.
FFVIIR was originally labelled as 'First on PS4' on its E3 reveal, I wonder why did they change that.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.

I totally agree. I spent a while living in Mexico City when I was a kid (11-13) and it really opened my eyes that the world is a whole lot bigger than what I knew and that what I was familiar with up to that point was really just the tip of the iceberg. I grew up in the midwest US and after Mexico it really just seemed like the absolute middle of nowhere and a total dead end. After high school I moved around the country quite a bit, but mostly East. I moved to Huntsville AL after college and tried to get a gig there with NASA but it didn't work out. I hopped around from NYC to New Jersey to Connecticut before finally landing right back where I started. So a few years back when an opportunity came up for me to move to the West Coast (literally, on the coast - my house is less than 1/2 mile from the ocean) I jumped at the chance. I don't regret it, this has been a nice place to have "settled down" to raise my kids and let them go through middle school/junior high/high school/college without being bounced around like when they were younger.

But you're right - you never know what life is going to throw at you so it's best to just buckle up and enjoy the ride.

------

As for Shadow Complex - the Epic Games launcher isn't too bad. I installed it once but then immediately ditched it after using it to install Shadow Complex, which I configured to launch as a non-Steam game shortcut. Kind of a pain, since you have to re-set some graphics options every time the game launches, but it's worth it.

The "Proving Grounds" challenges are all there and have leaderboards and such (I think) but they only work if launching directly from the Epic client. That being said, if the game comes to Steam I'll definitely be picking it up there and playing it again for the achievements, leaderboards, and hopefully stuff like cloud-saving and trading cards.

Firewatch was labeled as PS4 Console Debut too on E3. So there is enough evidence to support definition of PS4 Console Debut - comes to PC too :D

at most i'd be open to living somewhere else for a couple months

i can't imagine a life in which i'm not seeing my friends for longer than a week and i have an almost 2 year old baby brother that i want to be there with him as he grows up

living somewhere else just sounds like a nightmare

I can understand buying a system to play a particular game or two, but what baffles me is doing this pre-emptively. There were a number of PS3 owners who suddenly felt swindled when FFXIII was announced for the X360, for instance, and I just laughed to myself. Here's a novel idea: wait until the system you want actually has the games you want.
But then I can't complain about not getting Metroid, F-Zero or Pokémon on Wii U even though I bought it to play Pikmin 3, Mario Kart and Smash Bros but also loved games like 3D World, Hyrule Warriors and X.

If you bought a system ahead of it having any games you actually wanted to play and, in retrospect, consider it a wise investment, that's all well and good, but it doesn't change the fact that doing so defies sense. I mean, I myself bought the PS3 GTAIV bundle on a whim and it became my primary gaming platform for a few years, but that doesn't make that initial decision any less of a questionable one.

Edit: GTAIV, not V.

Back from PSX. Playing games on the show floor I was thinking "these are all games that will be great on my PC."

All kidding aside, Cosmic Star Heroine was really great. Got a good 15-20 minute demo or so, definitely feels like a sci-fi Chrono Trigger with some neat combat hooks.

Played Far Cry Primal in what was one of the weirdest demos I had. I think they expect you to free roam but instead I made a beeline straight for the outpost and cleared it in about a minute before the demo reset.

Dark Souls 3 felt really good, but was super rough visually. Still, big step up from DS2 and was definitely feeling the Bloodborne influence.

I think all games shown at the PSX have a realistic chance of coming to PC except for Ratchet and clank. That's the only actual exclusive exclusive i can remember.

insomniac XB1 game has a better chance to come to PC than Ratchet.

As for the rest of the games, Square is doing more and more PC games, as well as Namco and Sega.

Level 5 is probably making a NX version of Ninokuni 2 knowing how tied they are to Nintendo. Or maybe justy an handheld Nintendo version (which coulb be a NX depending how related handheld and home consoles are in the next Nintendo ecosystem).

No one is buying my $5 foil or even my $15 one. :(

Hell no one is buying my 3 Adventures of Tree foils priced at 7c.

Okay, so I'm not alone. I have yet to sell a foil. Usually I raffle them off with modbot or give them away to other SteamGAFfers. I must only get the foils that people don't want/are also owned by undercutters.

We still have do that even in Far Cry Primal?
Whose outpost was it? Another tribe's? Wild animals' nest?
I thought it'll be another game (or at least a bit different) with this setting. :/

After seeing some actual gameplay, nope. It will be the same ... stuff with sticks and bad AI animals as sidekicks. 5€ sale tier for me after being disappointed by Far Cry 4

It was a cannibal outpost I believe.

It definitely felt like Deja Vu, despite elements being different. I could throw spears and use a club for some clunky melee combat. Instead of binoculars you use an eagle to scout the area, which can also attack enemies for an instant kill. You also have a wolf ally. Graphically it looked okay, not mindblowing but the lighting was pretty decent. PC version will probably clean it up a bit.

Did you get a free nuclear throne code ? =S =(
Sadly I totally forgot to do the check in thing while I was there...although I'm not sure if I'm just logged in under the wrong account or something :/

I have to say, I am really enjoying the current holiday bundle from coinplay where they reveal a new game every day for 12 days. It helps that I didn't have any of the games they revealed so far, I guess.

I agree, I was half making a joke at people who buy consoles before games are announced and recounting why I bought my Wii U. I wasn't going to buy one until Mario Kart came out but there was a good deal on the Wind Waker bundle and I wanted to play Pikmin 3.

Is there a quick way of working out which app IDs to add to Idle Master's blacklist from my badges page? I want to exclude games like Zestiria so that my play time isn't messed up but I feel like I'll have to go through the badges page and look at the web link under the buy button on a store page for the ID.

I don't know of such a way, but, if you don't mind - out of curiosity, do you want to keep your playtime on certain games intact just for yourself or is there some external reason (apart from easier refunds in case you would like to return something)?

The app id is in the link. E.g. http://steamcommunity.com/my/gamecards/225540/ is Just Cause 3. Steam's own browser doesn't display links on hover, but Firefox and I would assume every other modern desktop browser does.

It's just for myself. Sometimes I like to look at games and know how long I've spent playing them. The Tales series is one of my favourites so I don't want to mess up its records just for cards.

It's always funny to see people complain about games that were never announced not coming to the console that they bought because they assumed that they would be released.

Thank you! It shows up in Chrome. Enhanced Steam says that my cards are worth nearly £26 so I want to get them idled in time for the Winter Seal.

Unity is pretty, you should try it out sometimes.
I will, when it's cheap.
The amount of negativity surrounding it means no impulse buy like syndicate =p

DVI-to-HDMI should do it.
Audio of displayport is technically feasible, but there's quite a few cards that don't actually support it, iirc

Of course, you might have to switch audio output in the playback settings every time anyway.
How far apart are these?

Hated is a strong word, most of them are just shit.
Your open world game needs to actually have interesting characters and locations (and some kind of story). Fun gameplay too, not just "look how open our world is and how many collectables there are".
