If Half-Life 3 is actually ever announced, the internet will implode. The whole communications system will go offline.

Alex Vance: Don't you have anything to say, Gordon?

OK, let Telltale make it. At least we will have a conclusion to the story and closure.
Silently gets released on Steam on the 24th.
If Half-Life 3 is ever sold by Valve. I really hope they'll include HL1 & 2 because of the massive delay.
At this point who doesn't own those 2 games though.

I believe hl3 will be focused in vr.
That's a weird thing to hope for, as others already said those games can be had for a dollar or two these days.
Depends when they announce it. I think we're still in the "fever pitch" zone but not for much longer. If they leave it another couple of years, it'll be like Duke Nukem Forever and literally nobody will give a shit.
Half Life (1) is my favorite game ever. Black Mesa for me, is one of the best game settings ever. I love that place.
I didn't enjoy Half Life 2 as much...
I just wanted Half Life 3 to go back to the roots, maybe go to a decrepit Black Mesa or a type of giant laboratory, but it seems it's going to be an Open RPG...

Nope. Valve declined this.

So it being developed right now if he says no to vr.
I'm willing to bet that's a misquote and should read "Half Life 3 will not be a game"
I'm of the opinion that they "leaked" all that on purpose just to keep the chin up of all the die hard fans who took in the rumours that Valve ceased development.

You know, it would be amazing if it was a 3 part story and they stopped after the 2nd part and just left the 3rd one TBD 20..

We're at the point where an entire generation doesn't even know what Half-Life is.

We know it has been in development as shown by the 2 JIRA leaks a couple of years back, showing the team behind it actually grew between the two leaks. L4D3 was by far the biggest at the time. And then the day before the 8th anniversary of HL2EP2's launch, Valve "leaked" (accidentally of course) files into Dota2 that show a bunch of HL3 info about the game for the first time, such as open world, quests, ziplines and such.

Not sure how I feel about open world. But I do want HL3 to push itself and it's game design. Some of the more open areas in HL2 especially in ep.2 where really cool. But the linear progression has also always been very well done and enjoyed.
I feel like quests may detract from the experience, but I'm open to seeing what Valve can do. I just really hope they achieve that same quality of narrative story telling from a "lived in experience" of events around you. I feel like in an open world the illusion of this bigger conflict may diminish a bit as you basically become this harbinger of the landscape.
It's to make it possible for thousands of people or billions of people to be all generating this shared entertaining universe. You can look at the properties that we have and probably say oh I would see how having a whole bunch of people extending and annotating and storytelling in this particular universe would make sense. But now that we got Source 2 out now you'll start to see us start to lay out some of the pieces so that we have this really large shared collaborative entertainment space that allows people to be as productive as they want to be in terms of building entertainment value for other people. That's something that we started four years ago. We had these ideas about how you build these large endless entertainment experiences and one of the dependencies was getting a bunch of economy stuff working there's a bunch of tools work to do, those are baked now. Now we are going start capitalizing with with how that actually translates into entertainment experiences for people.
What would be the chance of Valve releasing Half-Life 3 alongside it's upcoming HTC-VR Headset?
Like pretty much every PC Gamer I'm a huge Half-Life fan and 'm interested in VR stuff however I haven't see anything yet to convince me to jump on the VR Bandwagon.
Bundling it with the VR Headset would be a huge system seller IMO and would help pushing those early units if they want VR to succeed.

From Geoff Keighley's interview with Gabe Newell regarding Source 2
I wouldn't be surprised to see a HL3 game that has a main Valve made story that gets added to now and then, along side a ton of community made off shoots that are more like an RPG with your own character, that are occasional brought into the main story. Sounds wacky enough for Valve to do, and it can involve hats and micro-transactions / that multiplayer aspect they love. It would also fit with the 2 leaked files split between hl3 and rpg.txt
They'd have to change the game completely. FPS are very disorientating in VR, you can get nauseous very easily. So not a good idea, unless you want a HL3 that doesn't play like HL.
I am (was) legit one of the biggest Half-Life fans. Spent years on Half Life forums, bought every game day 1. I dont care if HL3 come out anymore.
Dont do this gaf
Part of me hopes Half-life 3 comes out and it's a total financial and critical failure.

Seems weird.
Why would anyone want this?
