The Division beta pushed back, Xbox One Alpha test Dec 9-12

Dunno how this will last over the long term of the full game, but this seems to be fine co-op shooter with probably the best depiction of a modern city in a video game for its sense of urban density even if it's largely abandoned. Looks quite astonishing at times and probably exudes the best sense of post-apocalyptic atmosphere since Stalker.

From the videos I have watched...game looks great...will look nuts on high end pc

Oh, I imagine. I'm not one to care all that much about visuals, but Massive is hitting this out of the damned park. Best snow in a city, best lighting in an 'open-world' game so far, and maybe the most impressive current-gen game for sheer intention to impress with its take on cinematic realism while still offering a large traversable play space. Even on the X1, this is just nice image quality and performance at this early stage. Wish they had not been acquired and been allowed to continue their Ground Control series, personally, but Massive is deserving of serious praise for their first non-tactics-focused, action-shooter game. The gameplay addition of tension-filled moments with the mix of PvE and PvP, especially in those ARPG-like item identification and procurement, or "extraction" sequences are especially well-realized. Better group up or lose your shit.

In the dark zone at night, with everyone gas masked up, I definitely thought of stalker once or twice, I don't know about the best sense of post-apocalyptic atmosphere. Metro has you covered there. IMO this feels muuuuch more like crysis 2 new york.

Yeah, Metro is nice, too, but it's just too confined and controlled for my tastes. I like the exploration focus of this game, like Stalker.

Would've loved a sequel to World in Conflict myself but the point stands.

Massive has nailed the atmosphere. They were my top 3 PC developers when they were acquired and based on my time with this one that's not changing.

Hmm. Well, I was responding to the actual atmosphere, rather than playable space. To be honest, I think it's even less like stalker on those terms haha, but fair enough man, to each their own. I think I see what you mean, but I think it's more watchdogs style city space with MMO or diablo like discovery & exploration as you go. I like the city though, so don't get me wrong, I agree that it's good, I think we jsut liked it in different ways.

So, in the long wait between now and march, what are all you guys going to be playing then?

It's definitely PvPvE like Aion....except its a free for all.

But it mostly turns into just straight up PvP because players just shoot anything that moves or when they graze someone they might as well just kill them or be killed. I watched 8 players yesterday just sit at a safespot and just keep spawning and murdering each other there for a good 20 minutes....got insanely boring to spectate it lol. Die, instantly repawns with no timer, kill, get marked rogue, repeat.

I think when the game, comes out there needs to be a robust "rogue bounty" that sticks with you for an extended time especially if you have stolen items from people. Gonna make you the hunted one come the dark zone. Nobody will trust you and you will get wrecked. Or have to run in a pack of rogues.

yes....I think the first kill only nets you like 20 seconds with little penalty lol

Hello, my name is Yves Guillemot, Vivendi S.A.'s Employee of the Month!
Has everything to do with the fact that the reveal trailer was claimed to be representative of the console versions with no mention whatsoever of PC. Whether or not there was going to be a PC port was utterly irrelevant, and even then like many other Ubi games you can guarantee that the game won't actually look like that on PC.
Where? They had confirmed that it was on PC, that alone should've been an outlier that the console versions wouldn't look like that especially when they actually showed off the console versions at e3 this year.

And that somehow excuses Ubi's practices? The game could never have looked that good because of cross gen?
Unless you want them to make the exact same game twice hell no it couldn't look like that because of cross gen. They didn't just have to reduce some effects they also had to reduce the geometry of the world, it was designed with the last gen consoles in mind and then they upgraded it for next gen consoles.

Even now current gen console hardware is holding back visual fidelity on the PC platform, is that going to be Ubi's excuse now for why future games don't match reveal trailers? Its an ass backwards excuse.
No it's not. PC versions look better than console versions of those games. News at 11.

Are you really trying defend Unity in the state it was released across all platforms!? Wow. And again FC4 is another example of real world graphics not matching Ubi's trailers, it is that simple.
You're moving goalposts, Unity looked exactly as advertised on pc and consoles. THe glitches are a whole thing altogether. And FC4's assets all look exactly the same as release, e3 demos are never the final build. Some areas get improved some get worse, it's how game development works.

You misconstrue facts for agenda, of course its very hard for you to explain away the very obvious differences in visual details isn't it.
I already explained the difference in visuals but ok. Btw, this shouldn't be news to anyone, but this isn't the final or even the current build. Not to mention some of your first posts was an immediate attempt to shit up the thread.

I'm still waiting to see some screenshots that actually look like the E3 2013 trailer...

Oops, forgot Ubi's games never actually look like their trailers.

It's very clear that you came in with a clear agenda.

Yeah, I had that too the first time I went to the Darkzone, flashbacks from GTA online.

Yup, first thing I encountered, and you don't even have any pick ups when you enter, so it's kind of entirely pointless way to play, but still saw people do it in a circular fashion for quite a long time at the entrance points.

Game environment, theme, open world, quests are all on point. The only thing that needs work IMO is movement (cover system felt clunky as hell) and gunplay (not satisfying like Destiny, CoD, Halo, TF).

Of course the second I tried to play for the first time the alpha's over. For some reason I thought it would end at midnight on the 12th. Oh well, always beta to check it out

So does the game look good considering its out in a handful of months.

Yes.....and it will only look better. We are playing probably a build that's a year old. Hitmann said it's newer then the one at E3....but even that build was a year old already at the time.

Also PS4 and PC will look better alone just due to hardware. This one game I think everyone will be happy to stare at no matter what platform.

So much misinformation about going rogue in the last couple of pages. NDA doesn't serve well when it's hard to shut people down without breaking it :/ The truth is there are MUCH stiffer penalties for being rogue than being a law abiding agent, and yeah it's alpha some people did it, but everyone saying it's just complete lawlessness is full of crap. A) it wasn't, at all, the stats agree with what I saw. B) Going rogue has HUGE penalties if you die. People saying otherwise didn't even experiment with what was happening and it's obvious.

Anyone that didn't play it: there's a lot of truth in this thread but also a lot of BS, wouldn't take anything as gospel.

It's possible that only works in some places. I noticed there was a ambulance panel that would only show bullet holes on the lower half of the panel. Shoot any higher and other than the sparks, you couldnt tell it was shot.

Same thing happened when shooting certain vehicle tires. Some would deflate, some would not.

But i'm gonna attribute that to being alpha.

That sounds very alpha of you XD.

Yes, Rogue is nasty dying. But it's also real easy to get. People love running into your fire to get you marked as hostile so they can shoot you with no repercussions.

Really enjoyed the Alpha.

The Dark Zone was fun with my friends and actually really intense at times. It's that "can't trust anyone" situation and you have to always make sure someone isn't out to get you if you looted some good stuff which made it very fun. The graphics and atmosphere are amazing. Rolling around at night with snow coming down and it being very foggy with burning cars and stuff in the distance made it a sight to behold and also made it a lot harder to spot people from far away. I remember we had to be careful about people above because there was a lot of rogues on rooftops while we traversing through the night. I didn't have to problem a lot of people had with the Dark Zone where people were just killing people to kill. Most of everyone we ran into knew what they were doing and even some people helped us out. There was like 7 of us who ganged up on these 2 guys trying to kill us and take our stuff, was pretty funny.

Honestly can't wait for the beta and then the full game to play more. I was very skeptical at first but this honestly seems like a game I will play a lot in 2016.

Man, gunplay looks really rough from the link put up earlier in the thread, enemies just kind of stand there then collapse when their hp bar is empty.

Can we stop having people lie about this? In the reveal footage of the game you could literally shoot pieces of the window out individually which is not possible in the alpha. It's one of the first things I tried and was very disappointed at the diwngrade.

Ouch. Clearly you didnt try it.

They really don't. Most take cover and will run at you....sometimes I've gotten swarmed because someone with a bat would bum rush me on one side while a named mob would just shoot the crap out of you. Depends on the misssions too. Standard wandering around mobs don't put up to much of a fight compared to the real sidequests/missions.

It also definitely feels like placement AI for alpha.

Sorry for being vague, I was talking about how they react to bullet impacts. The guns sound great and seem varied, but it looked like most of the hit feedback was watching enemy life bars drop to zero rather than hit animations.

I don't know what it is with me, but I am so bad in changing guns in shooters until it is way too late. Was the secondary only accessible through a long press of Y?

There was definitely reaction to being shot. You were watching the wrong videos.

Yes it was......and tapping y was sidearm. I didn't like holding y for secondary. It was hit and miss for actually swapping correctly. Worked smoothly in Destiny but not here. I'll Wait till beta for this judgment fully though. Will be interesting to see how different it is

I think I'd like the long press for the side arm. Was Destiny's long press for heavy though?

Yup, most definitely. There is a story happening, and the whole game can be played solo, at least the content we've seen, including going into the dark zone. Similarly, all that stuff can be played with just random matchmaking, your own actual team and so on. No official word I don't think on raids or content that requires a team but I have spotted quite a few responses from devs asked about that kind of thing that were ":)" or ";)" haha

I think I'd like the long press for the side arm. Was Destiny's long press for heavy though?

That's right. I got along okay with the weapon changing. Did find once or twice in a hairy moment that I had pulled the wrong gun but that might have been my own inconsistency, not sure.

I liked that my sidearm was on the quick Y switch. Used that more then melee when somebody rushed me and my primary needed to reload.

Since everyone started arguing about goddamn windows, I'll ask again: Does anyone know if the beta will feature more stuff to do compared to the alpha?

Nope. At the end of the alpha, they gave us some info on what bugs/graphical problems that we had reported that were actually already sorted in their internal builds, and what alpha players would be in the beta automatically. No idea on extra content. To be honest, as a network and bug test, I don't think they need to add much more. Alpha had a main story quest, a sidequest, a few ambient quest/challenges and dark zone stuff. Unless there are raid type things to come, I think that's a good spread, and I don't really want to be spoiled too much. Alpha did a good job keeping the actual plot away from you. There's enough content there to fit the purposes of the testing, imo.

From the few videos I've seen it looks pretty good! It will be interesting to see how the RPG elements hold up and if there is a dense end game that isn't based around PVP.

Hopefully there are plenty of dungeons to farm etc. The setting seems like it could support it quite well with additional buildings becoming "dungeons" with different groups taking them over.
