Not sure I'm liking this. a few issues so far

  • Controls are just awful and clunky. A and B need to be switched with the bumpers.
  • Camera inverts when placing an object. why.jpg
  • Lighting is broken on Parralax and glitches occasionally on the other canvases
  • The Halo Ring on Parallax looks low res
  • You're sometimes backed out of the object menu to the main one when an object is placed
  • Takes twice as many button presses to move a piece across the map
  • Monitor boost is too fast

The A and B change allows you to paint select, kinda necessary. You get used to it.

Camera invert was also weird but I've already gotten used to that as well.

What lighting issues are you noticing?

I have noticed the menu bug, a bit annoying.

1 press to 2 presses isn't exactly a big difference.

Problems I've noticed:

- Too easy to kill yourself in the out of bounds areas

- You can get stuck out of bounds

- Objects you spawn can get stuck outside the map.

- You can get stuck inside a large object if you spawn it too near to yourself.

Other than that this is damn good.

Does anybody else think its crazy that a game from 2007 had a better fileshare than one in 2015?

Halo 3's File Share was the best visually and Reach's File Share was the best in terms of functionality.

Why 343i can't take already existing features and build up on them is beyond me.

Decided to open it up just to see it real quick. Holy shit the controls are completely different. Looks like I have a bit of learning ahead of me tonight.

so much cool stuff i can't even begin to wrap my head around it. would be so much better if there were custom controls though.

inverted my controls in the xbox app and then inverted it in game, so it's not inverted when i'm moving pieces around anymore. it still doesn't feel right though.

i'd imagine that will be coming in future updates. at least obvious things like camera inversion settings

Bungie are the masters of UI design. Halo 5 will get better file share. At least 343 is really good about communicating and fixing/updating.

If anyone wants to help with it, you are more than welcome. I'm thinking of changing the vents to walkways with mancannons that periodically turn on. Feel like it would add a good layer to the map

Somebody much more versed in forge than me needs to make a version of DM17, ASAP. :D

At least they're good at that bc I still think its bs that they're unable to launch the game with feature that were there at launch in 2007.

Is there no premade structures anymore?

I love how Bungie is getting so much love, even for things they didn't do that well. Nostalgia really messes with people's minds. Bungie is not some almighty developer that did everything right. They did a lot wrong everyone's just forgetting.
Forge in Halo 5 is fine as it is, doubt Bungie would've done anything better. Hell I'm sure they wouldn't have

32x32x32 block is 1 unit wider than a 32x32x24 block. :/

So primitive blocks are all messed up on the 32x32 scale...

that is really annoying. wonder if it'll be an easy fix, or sense all maps using this forge from here out have to reference that piece (ie, it cant be updated)

Does anybody know a good source for maps of old... uh, maps? I'd like to get a hang of things making remakes before trying anything original, but the one I was looking at (Chiron TL-34, but really it's more of a general inquiry) doesn't seem to have any decent overhead diagrams. There's one with height indications that's about 30px wide, and one that's decent sized but doesn't show height :/

so far the main negatives for me are

lame controls
everything listed by units, which are now in feet instead of meters
bugs
no covenant crates

everything else is awesome

If you rotate both objects 90 degrees, it lines up but with one major problem.

question: is the amount of items like blocks before running out of budget increased? i always run out way sooner than I'd like.

im sure i'll still run into this issue no matter what but any noticeable increase would be great

edit: Also I think im gonna recreate the Warpriest room and room before it from Destiny, but connect the 2 rooms better, for some slayer

It's something like 70% over H2A I believe.

This is too complex for me. I appreciate adding more depth for the hardcore forgers, but by doing that the ease of use is gone.

The menus are insanely cluttered and cutting the premade structures was dumb.

So, how many people were watching my stream earlier? My display said 9 but then i noticed 59 new followers in my inbox.

Also, file saving is broken and the team is looking into it as we speak.

There were about 65 people watching when I took a peek during lunch.

it's not really that complicated. it's essentially like modelling with a 3d program like sketchup now... only we're stuck with the control pad and a terribly cumbersome control scheme. this would be a piece of cake with a mouse and keyboard for shortcuts.

As annoying as this is, probably makes sense since the majority of forgers will probably be American, make it easier for them if they don't necessarily know the metric system.

wasn't really about the metric system, but rather the fact that we had nice whole numbers before and now we're dealing with weird increments like 12 and 24. haven't seen any 3 foot long objects for instance, whereas i knew exactly what to use to get something that size before. It'll take me months before I memorize how big all the pieces are because of how many units we need to manage.

it makes sense that they'd need smaller units for the smaller pieces, but that's why we had "short for 1/3 and "flat" for 1/5.

I'm pretty sure Americans are taught the metric system in school.

They better be, if they want to engage in any STEM field, ever.

For in-game units where I have no real relationship to the scale of things I dunno why you wouldn't use metric since it'll give you a simple and divisible number for everything.

Nope... Didn't really get into metric until college... (Thankfully it is made of pure common sense, so easy for STEM folks to pick up) Some of the advanced science courses I took in high school had it, but they weren't standard classes...

It's stupid, but politics...

There's a large constituency here who thinks the imperial system is somehow " 'merican"
