Aside from the mind controlling bit (which she kind of did get a taste of from Kylo), everything Rey does came from watching what Kylo was doing, and applying it. It's not like she became this raging jedi by the end.

After Rey meditates on the Force, she basically was as adept at the lightsaber as Luke was in ROTJ. Her saber technique was suddenly of someone highly trained; she was really in a totally different class than Kylo at that point. She pobably could've taken on Vader. Luke blocking a blaster shot or enhancing his already-great pilot skills is not comparable to her level up, and it just isn't plausible unless she's massively more powerful at the Force than anyone else we've seen. And that would be boring.

The movie was really amazing. This trilogy has a solid chance of beating the original if it keeps up the pace. I loved practically everything, especially the characters. The only part that was a little off for me was Rey beating Kylo. :\ I think Fin should have caused more damage before getting beaten so it would make it a bit more believable when she took him down.

My only fear is that Kylo turns good at the end of the third movie to kill Supreme Leader. That's way too similar to the original trilogy, so I really hope he turns fully evil.

Also thinking about it, why would Han and Leia name their kid after Obi Wan. Leia didn't even know him and Han didn't really have much of a relationship with him aside from constant mockery. I mean I would get Luke naming one of his kids Ben, but Han and Leia?

He wanted to have his name live on so he did a Jedi Mind Trick from beyond the grave.

this is where we argue power levels part of the thread. kylo had been hit with a laser (chewbaccas powerful one) and had been hit a couple times in the fight with finn

Using the Bowcaster wasn't just a "laugh here" moment. It was also to set up Ren getting shot by it at the end. Supposed to show that he was in a weakened state and also absurdly strong. He just took a direct gut(?) shot from a gun that kills almost everything from hitting near it.

seriously i am amazed people are glossing over this like "wow how did she defeat him in a duel?" when the guy was shot the stomach, hit by finn a couple times, and had just killed his father

Thumbnails are a very important part to a YouTube video actually. Titles are interesting, but the thumbnail gives a little insight to what you're gonna expect. If it's a generic clickbait type, most just want to avoid it.
Fair enough. Im new to this thumbnail shit. That aside. He talks about the film in depth and has good points. Maybe ask him to stop with the thumbnail faces?

You aren't. I've always wondered the same thing.

If you can push and pull things... you can push something that won't move, ie the ground, and it should push back (Newton's law) and thus, push you away... control it and you should be able to float/fly/jump really high.

They do use it to jump really high, some in the past even to levitate. But apparently in terms of canon, the reason actual flying is not more prevalent is because it takes an absurd amount of force concentration, far more than simply lifting even the heaviest of objects.

The benchmarks for the fight choreography have changed since ROTJ. I can assure you if that were filmed today Luke would be more "skilled"

Nevertheless it is clearly established that Rey is extremely adept with a melee weapon and has some combat experience, whereas Luke was a farmboy

After letting it sit for a couple days and thinking about the movie it's pretty meh. A lot was forced (no pun intended) and the story was pretty garbage with the dark side being conned into building another giant but hugely vulnerable battle station, power ups to make even Obi Wan from the OT pretty noob, and the wink wink nudge nudges every where. A lot of "fun" moments but nothing substantial IMO. Feels like Avengers.

This has been actually puzzling me. Finn says he works in Sanitation; is the First Order so short-staffed that they make the garbage collectors do double-duty as ground assault troops?

They even show him hitting his abdomen and blood hitting the snow. He's clearly injured badly and emotionally raw.

Exactly. You have to take the lightsaber battles within the context of the film making time period.

Probably that contributed. Also, he was heavily wounded due being shot int he gut by a bowcaster. That shit musta hurt considering it usually kills people in a single shot.
that made me question, what fucking good is the storm trooper armor? if one shot could just fuckin kill you?

and seeing as how this takes ~30 sum years after the last star wars installment, the armor may not look different but isn't any more durable?
Not to mention the laser blast in his side (which he smacked several times during the fight) and just having tired himself fighting Finn, who got a good slice on his shoulder.
the laser blast is one thing but I feel like seasoned fighters should be able to fight several opponents after another.

I dont see whats so farfetched with Rey being capable with a sword.

Clearly she has had training with her staff, so its not like she hasn't used a melee weapon before

I got the impression he worked as sanitation on Starkiller Base until he was combat ready. Then he bailed out on his first mission.

Much like Army reserve folkor cadets may perform similar duties when they aren't deployed

I think they might have put him there for some time when he worked at the Starkiller but the was a long time ago and since then he got a spot in Phasma's unit.

To me Rey's moves were perfectly accepatable for a newbie who lets the force take over.
It's the same concept Yoda uses to fight with his old body, the force allows you to do great things if you let it in.

Rey's problems however, are that she's too good at EVERYTHING with no visible flaws...so yeah, she feels like a Mary Sue NOW, but I´m sure her character will be explored and she will have her own problems in VII.

Finn is a waaaaaaaaaaay better character than her for me, In my honest opinion he deserved to be the Jedi.

Nah, she was just sword fighting a badly injured dude who seemed like he was on the verge of passing out half the time.

Rey was already shown to be highly competent in armed combat earlier in the movie (the fight with the muggers on Jakku) . She carries a staff with her everywhere she goes. People keep saying she's untrained, but that's just an assumption.

Yep, that gut shot from the bowcaster would have been a kill shot for any non-hero character. Kylo was pretty severely wounded. He was probably punching the wound to amp up his anger/adrenaline to channel the dark side of the force to remain focused/conscious.

Throughout the whole movie, kylo has shown us that he isnt as skilled at the force as he tries to pretend he is. When your the only one that can force pull, of course you will have an advantage over everyone.

Ren had skills at melee/weapon combat. She was being out classed because of her fear. Once she was reminded of the force, she cleared her mind and fought with the confidence she had in the beginning and beat an injured temper tantrum mentally weak force user.

Kylo Ren is really underpowered for a movie villain, even worse than Ultron.

It was sorta the point of the character. It wasn't as bad as ultron, he should have been a little stronger though. I mean, he did kill some jedi's in training but didn't seem like it.... I realize he was hurt in that last battle but still.

John Harker

Definitely doesn't make things up as he goes along.
also loved the alien Resistance pilots and the asian female... finally the galaxy has come a long way toward equality the past 30 years.

Though, the two LOST actors took me out of it for a moment!

What if he turns into Vegeta? He won't turn good... but he won't let Snoke live either.
