The brainwashing only goes so far though. Even Finn had some element of self-preservation. Those two stormtroopers walking around the corner, seeing Kylo Ren fucking shit up, and walking the other way... They had some level of "I'm not going near that."

Exactly, to me that telegraphed a confrontation between them but it wasn't in the movie.
Everyone's gotta pay their dues? It's probably like younger students that get stuck with the grunt work like that while still undergoing training.

Right, but this was the shields to the entire planet. Meaning even if she lives she'll die anyways. There was never anything before hand that made you think she'd have second thoughts about her job (it was actually the reverse), that's on top of her being a elite soldier who would probably be more committed.

I agree with this. Phasma seemed completely under First Order control, to the point where she would chew on a cyanide pill before answering any questions, much less deactivate a shield to destroy the entire base. Either there's more to the character than I originally thought, or it was just lazy writing.

He didn't. He only said he had experience with sanitation in relation to working on the Starkiller base specifically. Could have been earlier on. I'm sure his training took him all over. It just means he wasn't on guard duty on the Starkiller base like they previously expected when he said he "knew how to take down the shields". It was a gag line.

Meh. He didn't seem to be that upset last time we see him with Rey at the end. He seemed to get over it pretty quickly for having lost someone that was close to him over 30+ years.

I hadn't considered that. Chewie probably wanted to save Kylo very nearly as much as Han and Leia.
Chewie was one of the hightlights of the film for me. I'm glad to see he's at the Jedi temple. I expect there to be a great scene at the beginning of the next movie involving Luke, Chewie, and R2.

Yeah, I went Monday at like 12:50 in the afternoon and it was packed also. Usually in my area, it's empty or you have 1 or 2 groups. I'd imagine the movie is going to be doing gangbusters.

In what sense? You think he is trying to cosy up to Snoke? In order to destroy him and the New Order? That he killed his father as a show to Snoke, and his father confronting him forced is hand into action?
Because I don't think he would have rebelled from Luke's school due to any insidious faculty in Luke's camp that needed to be ousted.

On Phasma, would people have preferred a 5 minute torture scene before she shuts down the shields, Jack Bauer style?

Before the Awakening clarifies that the Stormtroopers have to do menial duties as well as combat training as part of their duties. He was a great cadet and Phasma believed he could become an officer, but he still also had to clean stuff.

I love the movie. Best Star Wars since Episode V. Kylo Ren is so evil and he killed Han in front of Chewie... I want to see Leah confront Ren, I want to see Chewie get a hold of Ren, I want to see Luke Skywalker fucking make Ren feel like a student when they finally face eachother. I'm so pumped for all of these confrontations.. Star Wars finally feels like a serial. George Lucas finally gets to see his original vision fleshed out so adeptly by Abrams and everyone involved. Even the actors. All of them. Bravo!
I'd expect there are stormtroopers specifically equipped to be like riot troopers or something.

Ya that whole scene was bad. Though I don't know how they'd write a way to blow that thing up without it being hokey. Unless you want another thermal port #3.
