I feel this is going to happen. Hell, I thought Rey was going to kill Kylo at the end. I can see her turning tbqh.

My current thought is that Poe is force sensitive and ends up being the main villain, but I could see Rey also. She showed some definite signs of anger especially when first using the blaster.

Just bought the Art of SWTFA book and once I started looking at the very early concepts

They were mind-blowingly great but dangerously out there at the same time
I love seeing concept art. There's no rules or restrictions. It's literally an artist trying out all the coolest things that can think of. Can't wait to see the Art book for myself.

Always saddens me though that what's published is only a tiny slither. I want to see it all!

Still hope to see Luke wreck a star destroyer with the force at some point. I want him to come full circle form his X-Wing ineptness in ESB.

I thought he looked more like he was confused, as in, "Am I really seeing someone else? Is this another ghost? Why is she pointing my dad's lightsaber at me? Better pretend she's real before she turns that thing on."

Reminds me of being a Transformers fan who's ok with all the incarnations over the years.

I was never into that fandom, but I remember liking the animated one with the android girl despite the designs and departure from the old ones. My lil bro loved it.

Only transformers I remember hating was the one after Armada, which had incredibly stiff animation and horrible lip movements. Can't remember the name

I take it those 2 aren't very loved...

Guys, I wanna buy a lightsaber. What's the best company in terms of a balance between quality and cost? Parks? Ultrasaber? ForceFX? Saber Forge? I'm so confused. I want it to look cool and I wanna be able to swing it around for kicks.

Was getting caught part of your plan?

One of my favorite out-there early concepts was Luke (tagged for people wanting to see weird shit themselves)
being a depressed Jedi-zombie just letting himself being buried in the sand, in the middle of an Imperial wreckage.

I'm in the same boat as you. Except I care more about it looking and feeling real. Don't care if it has a blade or not.

I've got two Force FX sabers and they strike a good balance between looking awesome and being able to be played with. The way the sounds clash and crack when you bash them is super fun.

They always light up people's faces (no pun intended) when I show them off, everyone loves them.

ForceFX for me as well.

Never heard of the others.

If it helps, they used modified ForceFX sabers on the set, notably the snow fight so the surroundings and their faces would have the proper lighting from the blades as a base for the CGI guys to tinker with.

I know Han isn't Force-sensitive, but it'd be great if Harrison Ford showed up in VIII as either a Force Ghost or as a hallucination to Ray/Ben. He could be representative of the light side of the force trying to bring Ben back from the precipice.

Because they wanted another cool-looking villain for merchandizing and shoe-horned her into the plot. Probably the same thing with Boba Fett.

Eh. She's not shoe-horned, she's not utilized.

No one is walking from this movie saying Phasma felt forced, they're asking why there wasn't more of her.

Something I didn't notice: When Kylo Ren removes his helmet, he places it in a bowl filled with what look like ashes. Perhaps he picked up more of Darth Vader's remains than just the helmet?

That or Kylo Ren is a heavy smoker.

Ehh Luke had that same scene where he got super pissed like three or four times and he's fine.

Is Luke really fine though? Seeing the final scene for the second time, it's clear he's seen some shit. It was still awkward, but Rey and Luke's reactions made a little more sense to me this time around. Rey had no clue what to expect from Luke, so she just stands there with the saber, and Luke has been through hell and hasn't seen anyone in what's probably years, so he's at a complete loss for words.

Saber Forge is located out my way. I've never actually gone in there or played around with one, but apparently you can do this kinda shit to 'em and they don't break.

Although they're apparently anywhere from 200-400 bucks.

Nice, my friend probably knows about 'em, he's really into making custom weapons, especially Star Wars stuff.

I picked up mine (Vader Force FX) at a Books a Million on clearance a few years back, something like $20.

It's awesome walking down a dark street on Halloween and lighting up the saber and hearing everyone recognize who you are :D

This makes me think... that chain of island didn't seem particularly big, so... why didn't Luke see or hear the Falcon? Because he's deaf and blind. That grimace on his face was from smelling Rey's BO after climbing up 900 steps.

I should start a Jedi club where we meet in warehouses and shady basements and have lighsaber duels until someone gets knocked out. Teach everyone that Trump is the evil Emperor and form a resistance.

Yeah I saw that I didn't understand what the heck a big bowl of volcanic-looking dirt was supposed to be there for but the helmet resting in it looked cool.

The movie was too long. Dolby Atmos is next level shit though, the burning trees in the background were a great touch.

I went to one with Atmos, the main channel is weaker than in regular 7.1, not sure what's up with the mixing, maybe it's the speaker's problem.

I'm sure he did. He was probably lounging around in his Jedi underwear, then heard the Falcon and was like "Oh shit!", then force jumped up, put on some pants and a robe and got in a dramatic pose at the top of the steps.

Saw it today, felt like a condensed version of 4-6 reboot. Not a terrible movie but not great either. Looking forward to hateful 8 since that might actually engage me and turn my brain on.

It's shocking that that is even possible lmao.

Tatooine is such a boring planet. Glad it didn't make an appearance this time around even though it kinda did with a Jakku reskin.

I have a theory, that the only reason they didn't use Tatooine was due to a location change in filming. The UAE just doesn't look the same as Tunisia.

That's the one with kylo on the cover right cause just bought it off of barnes and noble for $20

Alright, long, nerdy theory post coming:

Ok, so this is my theory on who Rey is and what went down with Luke. There's a lot of room for modification, or small variances, but I think something like this went down. I tried to make it as short as possible, but it's still a bit of a read. Thanks for reading:

- At some point after ROTJ Luke begins his training a new Jedi Academy on one of the planets.

- This training isn't just physical training, but also trying educational, and trying to unlock ancient Jedi secrets.

- Somewhere in here Ben Solo is dropped off to be a part of this group. He shows promise, but is somewhat disturbed frequently by visions and temptations from the dark side.

- Eventually, Ben finds that he's not the only one with these visions and temptations. A handful of other students also have sensed this.

- Additionally, these other students and Ben have discovered ancient secrets of the dark side and have dabbled in it secretly - unhappy with their slow progress, the dark side is alluring. Ben creates a secret society that will eventually be the "Knights of Ren" that we see based on these secrets.

- All of these visions and temptations are a part of Snoke's doing - an effort to discover the true power of the ancient Jedi temples.

- Beyond just the Knight's of Ren, Snoke has been lurking in the hearts and minds of many of the students. The level of anger, distrust, and rivalry seems to be rising among the students and Luke finds himself disturbed and frustrated. There is a darkness, but Luke cannot figure out the source.

- One day an area of one of the temples is unlocked housing a young girl - the students freak out. She is a baby, but quickly displays incredible giftedness with the force. Luke takes her under his wing.

- This baby causes an even greater stir of jealousy and anger amongst the students. Luke seems to have essentially adopted her. Jealousy rises especially in Ben Solo, who has been the superstar so far.

- At some point, Snoke makes himself known to Ben. He plays off the jealousy that has been growing in Ben. He promises him power and leadership if only he will bring the girl to him.

- But how?! Luke is too powerful and will stop any attempt to take this girl. Snoke promises to make a way.

- During a training this young girl begins to exhibit incredible ability and power. Some of the students are amazed, but many are angered and begin to feel scared and threatened by her ability. They begin to argue and the argument begins to grow out of control and a fight breaks out and one of them murders another.

- The fight escalates, it's irrational, but can only be explained by a dark influence. It's pure anarchy. Some trainees are trying to protect the girl, but some want to kill her because she's a "threat" and "evil."

- Kylo summons his secret society and takes advantage of this situation. They step in and slaughter the trainees easily since they are the only organized group as the others fight (The last one they kill tried to take a swing at Rey).

- Luke comes in on the scene and rescues Rey. He pacifies the Knights of Ren, but doesn't have the heart to kill them since there's already enough blood on his hands and he knows them all.

- Not wanting to stay there anymore and realizing the great evil that has finally revealed himself, Luke flees with Rey.

- Luke is depressed and believes himself a failure. Not only was his academy slaughtered, but it was manipulated from the inside. How could he allow the darkness to grow so deeply in his own students hearts? He begins to fear this power...he must stop it at all costs.

- Luke fears that this darkness may break into even his mind. He contacts one of the few surviving people familiar with Jedi lore, Lor San Tekka, and gives him bare bones information, a small map fragment, and Rey. He demands that he not know where they are going. He also demands that even Lor San Tekka should be wary holding too much information.

- Luke goes out in search of the first Jedi temple to discover what Rey was originally intended for and why Snoke wants her so badly. What was so important about this ancient baby? Can she be used for good? Is she destined to be evil?

Summary:

One of the central questions has been, "Why would Luke leave Rey and let all these disasters happen to find the first temple?"

Because Rey is part of the temple puzzle. Unlocking her is what sparked the need for the search of the first Jedi temple. And the key to her memory is only found when Luke discovers her original purpose.

Rey's memories of abandonment are true, but misplaced as her parents hid her away thousands of years ago. Yet, Luke is essentially her adoptive father. Her memories were lost in the "cryofreezing" of the temple. Her time at the temple was short lived and still in a fog, not enough to create lasting memories.

Rey's danger lies in her great power. We are not sure what it she is capable of or what path she was intended to take.

Thoughts?

Saw it for a second time yesterday.

Harrison and Fisher both delivered solid performances. Fisher did what she could with her somewhat dry dialogue :p She was the only character who didn't really get her own screen time.

Gotta say the movie left a better impression on me on my second viewing. Maybe because I've spent way too much time in the meantime in this (and the previous) threads. The issues with the movie, that I see, still stands. But with having seen it once and know what to expect, I think I could sit back and enjoy the movie more for what it is on the second viewing.
