PlayStation 4 hits 35.9 million sold through to end users

Isnt sony being this much ahead of microsoft, and microsoft being this much ahead of nintendo essentially a bad thing for us gamers?

It looks good with all these indies and second party exclusives on the horizon, but arguably the only truly great ps4 exclusive is bloodborne and that game isnt even a first party.

And we are more than 2 years into this generation.

They didnt even fix their godawful ui yet.

Prediction time for Sony first party software in 2015:

Uncharted 4: ~10 million

Gran Turismo Sports: ~7 million

The Last Guardian: 2 million+

Ratchet and Clank: 1 million+

Horizon Zero Dawn: ~7 million

Gravity Rush 2: ~1 million

Dreams: (wild card)

It should be a great year for Sony first party games sales.

ughh im gonna be so poor.

Yeah, have fun finding even one who predicted a clear PS4 win.

It's so fun reading through this. Every prediction thread on here is full of horrible predictions without any basis in....anything, really. However, we don't usually ever get to see the results for how terrible everyone's predictions really are.

It's also funny to see how many unrecognizable names dominate the thread.

edit- LOL there are posts about how info leaked that Bungie's next game won't be on a Sony platform, how Ouya had a chance to be involved in any way with success, how Watch Dogs was going to be one of the biggest IPs of the new generation, ect. This thread is a fucking goldmine.

For a crazy reason PS is 20 years old and still feels new. It's a weird feeling. Nether the less I can still feel nostalgic about my favourite gaming brand. I love the fact they are super successful and getting all these console sales, but in my opinion it has come at the expense of that Sony magic. Seriously, whenever Sony pull these numbers they get extremely comfortable and arrogant. It really puts a downer on me when I should be happy for their success.

I would be happy with all those numbers, especially for Gravity Rush 2. Dreams won't be 2016 though.

I expect Dreams to be a bomb Sales wise and critically just cause it appears like it will rely mostly upon User generated content. Which will make it hard to review before content exists and hard for people to play until content exists. While there is a limited number fo people who can create compelling content with an even more limited number that bought dreams and created content within it.

Dreams will have a campaign just like Little Big Planet does.

Not really the PS1 and PS2 era were great times.
And PS4 shaping up to be the same .

Isn't April typically a shit month for hardware sales? Don't feel like Uncharted will be maximized for hardware in April. End of April no less.

Months don't really matter any more. Dying Light, Mortal Kombat X and The Witcher 3 all did crazy numbers early last year.

I will double dip when we get the slim.

Also I will get a xbone when MS introduces their redesign.

By "slim", do you mean what it should have really been at launch?

My biggest gripe with my Xbox One. Ive honestly thought to myself several times, "did Microsoft purposely design it so big, so that a slim model might seem more appealing down the road?". Probably just crazy talk.

I would just love to easily move my Xbox One from room to room or at least be able to purchase a second PSU directly from MS (but we cant for whatever reason).

I'm curious, I usually notice those sort of things. Examples?

They latest incident I can think of is from Yoshida himself just the other week on Twitter when he was incredibly rude to Ryan from IGN. Ryan simply wondered if MS had approached Kojima for a deal. Being an Xbox fan and covering Xbox for IGN the tweet, speculation and hype around Kojima being a free agent is obviously worth discussing. Then in comes Yoshida spouting something along the lines of "you love MS so much?". These higher ups should be behaving better than this instead of acting salty. I know Phil Spencer and Xbox are the underdogs, but I don't see this behaviour on Twitter from him any more. (Greenberg can still be annoying, though).

But let's stop before I come across as making this MS vs Sony. This is strictly Sony's behaviour.

I still don't understand how people confuse runaway success with non-competitiveness. Like the PS2 before it, the PS4 is where it's at because it's the *most* competitive product.

What's wrong with the UI?

It isn't fun.
I like to get excited when I'm finding games to play. When it's just there in front of me I tend to lose all interest and turn off my PS4 to collect dust. Give me some ads before I play a game or at least a survey. Install times should be longer too. I mean how else am I going to find time to make a sandwich, take a shower and call my mother?

Personally i find the UI miles ahead of the shit we got with the PS3!!! It does everything i want, looks clean and its snappy.

I mean i only look at it a couple of minutes everyday so that must be the problem.

Damn, everyone thought was doomed. Little did they know that the "Genius" Cerny was involved.

Every time i see the video of him explaining the ins and outs of how PS4 came about, i am mesmerized by the skills this man has and wonder why Sony didn't ask him to help sooner.

Lol at 'incredibly rude'. C'mon.

How was he not the salty one? One man speculating like the rest if the world vs a man who got offended by it? Come on, dude.

You're misunderstanding the exchange between them, I think. And he wasn't 'speculating like the rest of the world', which is why it got pointed out. He was speculating in a super focused way that had little to do with the actual announcement. That's why he got called out on it, and even the call out was done jokingly and not even rude, let alone 'incredibly rude'.

No the rest of the world was congratulating Kojima on his new endeavor.

And go get some thicker skin if you thought anything in that exchange was "offensive".

So why wouldn't Ryan tweet someone from MS about that instead of Shu? There is a 0% chance that Shu would have given him any information and Ryan would know that beforehand.

Edit: Sorry, didn't see the other responses. Not trying to dog pile here, but surely you can see how Ryan wasn't really looking for an answer right?

Not sure I understand. Are you saying that you rather play games than obsess over the UI for a video game system? Now I've heard it all!

Lol, come off it. It was speculation because Kojima at that point wasn't confirmed to be with Sony. It was a rumour. Point 1. It is Ryan's job to be Xbox focused. Point 2. Yoshida later apologised for his behaviour. Why would he do that if it was a joke? Point 3. Now sit back and think about which one of us didn't understand the tweet exchange. Now I'm terribly off topic so no further responses from me. I'll let the thread run its course.

These sales are crazy.

In my opinion, PS4 will strike gold twice with PS VR. It won't be as cheap as Samsung Gear and whatnot, but it will be both the cheapest and easiest-to-setup "fully fledged" VR headset on the market for a while.

It's also interesting how Sony seems to be pushing another format war right under our noses. You can bet they are praying for a breakout success for PS VR. Sure, when they make public statements about its success they'll try to be humble and all that, but this would give them a huge head start in an upcoming media format. They can't afford to let the opportunity slide on by:

PS1 - CD
PS2 - DVD
PS3 - Blu Ray
PS4 - VR
Hmmm....very interesting concept you have here. Fits in how Sony has been talking about it as a new platform instead of a peripheral.

Is this serious? Shu was just j/k taking shots and english isn't even his first language. You got "incredibly rude" from that tweet? man...you are reaching. Shu PR is to be approachable and talk less PR speak.

It helps that games were $50 at the time and first party Sony games were $40. Now you have games at $60+dlc so people aren't inclined to buy more, well my opinion anyways.

If Sony can do 18m for 2015, im pretty sure they can hit 20m for 2016. They just need to secure marketing rights to FFXV and whatever thats coming holiday 2016.

The US centric view sometimes distorts the history. The PS2 wasn't that cheap in Europe to buy solely for playing DVDs, as it cost 500€ at launch here. That might be why the PS3's launch price wasn't that hard to swallow over here. The games cost pretty much the same as they do now as well. I remember paying 60-70€ for several games, like Silent Hill 3 and Resident Evil 4.
