You leave the thorn alone. DoT gimmicks have a place in PvP dammit.

Sage was talking about having a mechanic to let people stop DOTs. Like if you're burning, you can slide or something. He called "stop drop & roll".

Top of the page rant: 100% proc rate DOTs on a primary weapon that creates a horrible sound and changes your entire screen was one of the worst design decisions in any shooter ever.

I keep trying to figure out why I don't say "Diablo is dead" when I put it down. It's just weird. Diablo is static between patches. There's no limited events. No weekly loot lockouts. No timed vendors. It's just the game in its barest form. But I always leave smiling & satisfied. But not with Destiny.

I think once Destiny's aggressive hooks (weekly lockouts, time gated events, etc.) lose their novelty, then it becomes plain that they're hooks. And hooks hurt.

For those of you who don't play Diablo 3, there's a new patch 2-3x per year that is almost all buffs. It rebalances the game, but also adds new mechanics (kunai's cube & legendary gems, etc.) and some new legendaries. And a bunch of Quality of Life stuff. That aside, there's been no new major "content" for 2 years. No new story, no new characters or classes. They've added a few small tilesets and a few enemies, but nothing like what we'd want. But I keep coming back to it.

A large part of my love for Diablo is because it fulfills that power fantasy really well. They don't have to balance PvP and as a result, they don't have to punish players or be all "no fun allowed". It's all about making your hero awesome and achieve incredible things. They have achievements for beating bosses on the highest difficulties in sub-60 seconds. When that happened in Destiny they instead nerfed the weapon.

I think it's also because it's pick up and play and that I always feel like I'm progressing no matter what activity I'm doing. I can do Adventure mode to get re-rolling mats. I can do regular rifts to get great gear. I can do greater rifts to upgrade my legendary gems. I progress at any difficulty too.

Destiny on the other hand is such a chore lately to complete anything that could progress you. Nightfall? 292 ghost. King's Fall? Shards. Doing Patrol is tedious even if you need it for planetary mats, glimmer, etc. You don't do anything that feels good with that stuff. And without a transmog system, it's so hard to make my "doll" (their word) look like I want. I just look hideous 90% of the time.

Taking a step back, what even is progress in this game? Being 314 light instead of 313 light? Like that's bullshit. Light as a progression system is horrible because light doesn't change how you play. And gear progression beyond that doesn't exist. Re-rolling is gone, but drops are abysmally low. Even beyond that, the game isn't balanced around perks anyway, so it's like a 5% edge at best. There aren't interesting weapons to chase or to use. Everything feels the same kind of bland.

Compared to Diablo where I can try to build a full class set, try to perfect that set, collect a different class set, try a build with around a different skill, build a set of gear around this legendary or that one.

I really hope Destiny Taken King was "here's what we can do with what we've got" and Destiny 2 is "Here's what we really wanted to do." Because Year 2 end-game is really bad. They wanted Taken King to be a loot game, and the game makes you miserable if you treat it that way. If you play the modes you like, with people you like, not caring about gear, then that's why I have 600 hours in Destiny.

Theres already a mechanic in place to stop DOTs. Its called dying.

Lore wise I think it would make the most since for Thorn to be given a similar trade-off to Touch of Malice. Using the darkness for more power at the expense of your own life force. Landing a shot should cause the same DoT to the one wielding Thorn. Wielder would need to be much more measured and deliberate with shots. Wielder lands a shot when they have very little health left then they would fall victim as well.

So you'd have to decide if it's worth hurting yourself and shooting through the green goopy screen effects for the extra damage.

Yea Bungie screwed up. One way is to change the perk instead of DoT just have a marker (the hunter's keen X) on the person you hit.

I wouldn't hate Thorn near as much if it didn't have that horrible sound and change my screen. That was the problem with the Summer of Thorn for me. Not that you needed to use Thorn to win, but that Crucible was a constant HISSSSSSS and green crap on my screen. Like the whole match would be that way. It was awful.
 
To fix Thorn all that needs to be done is to make it deal damage on par with other hand cannons of that class. The DOT is enough of a bonus that extra damage isn't necessary. Being able to track an enemy and prevent healing is huge. Base damage + DOT needs to equal base damage of other hand cannons with the same archetype. If it takes other hand cannons one headshot and two bodies to kill Thorn should not break that mold.
 
Alright, having played trials on memento now, I join the rest of you in thinking it's trash for elimination. Still like it for clash and control, but this is awful.

Thorn has Word of Crota archetype RoF while keeping Fatebringer archetype impact. With shield-blocking DoT which lets you track enemies. It's also the only HC in the game which kills in 3 body shots - even the slowest, highest impact guns don't do that.

Either the Weapon Master quest for the weekly is broken, or it doesn't work with Zhalo, or it doesn't work with Mayhem mode. Either way, fucking stupid.

I just played 3 games in a row with 6+ AR kills and didn't get it yet. Another thing to add to the pathetic list.


EDIT: Trying with normal Control + Doctrine. Better work

I guess all we can do now is wait. They did claim some sort of "big" update this year. But Im not too hopeful. Its VERY obvious that they are all hands on deck for Destiny 2.

I'd love to see Destiny 2 come out this year...but you would think there would be some real rumor of this by now...especially a game of that size. (Not that hazy pic we got where they called Taken King Comet).

The quest chain us broken anyway and you cant complete it. It is no longer a requirement for shaxx weekly bounties. Dont stress it :)

Your gonna load your same characters into Destiny 2 coming fall 2016. And it's gonna be shown for the first time at e3. And it's gonna be sold as a new $60 game in the same world.

It's been typical recently for Bungie to not show anything until e3. Maybe we will get a name leak before then but who knows.

It's probably I guess going to be as much content as Vanilla Destiny but in the same world with hopefully several new locations and environments.

And I think at least parts of the Destiny that we have now is going to go F2P. At least they appear to be taking steps in that direction with all the MTs.

I'm starting to think this as well. Full fledged sequel would certainly have already been teased at the very least.
 
Do we all really believe the reward for getting all 50 fragments was just an emblem? I'm thinking Bungie is going to do something similar to how they ended Y1 with where you have to have certain achievements. . for another emblem. .

it'll be a notch on the Year 2 Triumphs, and that'll be it.

So who hasn't done Skolas yet? Or does anyone want to do Skolas? I don't know why but I feel like paying the guy a visit this weekend. Won't be able to do it today since I'll be busy with Trials but I'll be up for it tomorrow and Sunday.
