The Division - 15 minutes of new gameplay

Downgrade?

You mean from a vertical slice of gameplay 3 years ago on hardware far exceeding specs that at least 85% of gamers don't have.

If you expect anything different from ANY game that long ago than you don't understand game development.

Downgrade?

Good. It might run acceptably on my PS4 instead of at 10 FPS which everyone would complain and get mad about because it runs like shit.

The only thing that could be bad about a downgrade is if the company is actively advertising a game up to release with footage that is not inidicative of the actual product.

From what I can tell. All the shots you're seeing are from the Xbox One. Also the likeliest worst version of the game. I can't complain.

but isn't that what they are doing? they show off way early gameplay it might as well be from another game then go dark let that footage float around the net for years then bum rush you with the new footage a month before it comes out

and i wonder why we havent seen PC gameplay yet? you dont think thats so it lets you keep that doubt in the back of your mind that maybe ... just maybe it will look like the old footage? lmao you think its not ready yet to be shown to the public yet?

Bosses? No. Most fodder? Yes.

I think even though they are quite similar in a lot of ways and will always be compared Destiny RPG elements are almost a facade. I never played an RPG where I felt like my level and equipment did jack shit besides lowering my super/melee/grenade cooldown. I never saw a huge change in how durable my Titan was at lvl 20 or level 5, it was a meaningless number. ''Light level'' is just like ilvl in many other game but once again in Destiny it feels so minor. Doesn't help that their idea of hard content was to make modifier like Arc Burns do insane damage which is quite fun but getting clipped by two bullet and you died instantly was not my definition, to each their own. I think this game will be more much like an RPG where Destiny feel foremost like an FPS with tacked on RPG element.

This is just like in Destiny where it all depends on the enemy, your weapon type, and your gear quality. Anyone expecting one hit kill headshots at low levels with lower quality weapons are completely out of touch with what these games are. In the Alpha it was absolutely possible to get sniper rifles possible of one hit kill headshots on some enemies. Starter weapons were pretty weak, and some weapons had stats leading to lower damage with insane recoil. Even still I would say that the TTK in general is a bit higher than in Destiny, but I'm still trying to figure out why that is a bad thing in an RPG.

It's not a bad thing in an RPG, it's a bad thing in a game with the Tom Clancy license and a game that has every other aspect of it grounded in reality. It just seems like a lazy way to show progression rather than finding a unique way that still makes sense in the universe.

Are these previewers all paid off? I mean, sure the game could be great, but just the way they come across is that they collected a nice check on the side.

The game looks completely mindless as far as PvE is concerned which is a big disappointment. I'll wait for reviews and impressions before picking it up. Release date still in March?
Oh come one, there are a ton of impressions in the XB1 Alpha thread from gamers here who played the game, almost all of them are very positive. Are all of us paid off as well? There is a very clear trend happening with this game where people who have actually played it have mostly come away very impressed with both the gameplay and visuals, and those who seem to be skeptical or cynical towards the game have in most cases not played it.
I remember when I was complaining of bullet sponge and how it was most likely a vertical slice back in 2014, but now it seems worse lol

Tatsuki's GIFs of the game from 2014 looked lovely...

div2.gif
The difference between those GIFs and the XB1 Alpha are the kinds of differences you would expect between a console version and a high end PC version. Higher rendering resolution, slightly higher quality assets, and some increased effects quality. And actually the AA in those GIFs isn't anywhere near as effective as what was in the Alpha. This game has some insanely effective AA running that makes for a super clean image, which could actually be what is causing the game to appear so blurry.

Actually, it'll likely be on nothing.

Recall the same thing happening with Watch Dogs. Initial gameplay, then downgrade.

Not even the PC version on ultra settings matched the initial Watch Dogs gameplay.

WD was a crossgen title, it's situation was incredibly different.

I wasn't aware compression made the lighting worse....
Are you denying there's a downgrade?
There are a variety of lighting and weather conditions in the game. Lighting when handled realistically can heavily affect the look of a game. The Division is no exception. We've seen better and worse lighting multiple times.

One thing people don't realise is that the old reveal videos were created before PS4 reveal when even developers were not sure what the console would have, and as such a lot of times they overestimated the target. This is apparent in most if not all games that were revealed around that time and Ubi was one company that revealed more games than anyone else.

This is also the reason why you don't see downgrades as much these days or why the downgrade margin is not as huge these days anymore.

Another thing people need to realise is that TOD, weather conditions, locations make a LOT of difference in visuals. Not every area has the same attention to detail, not every area would have a lighting that has a pleasing color grading to it...etc etc.

I don't feel any of the enemies look bullet spongy from the footage shown. They drop fairly quick. Even the bosses with a squad of 4 I imagine drop in seconds when coordinated well.

Seeing event footage without optimized load outs, levels, coordination, etc isn't too reflective of what we'll experience once we are playing it in the beta.

Plus, bosses should absolutely take time to take down. Hence why they are bosses.

I don't want it Destiny style of say the tank before the big eye boss fight where he just takes forever due to way too big of a health bar so you waste 10-15 mins on a mini boss. I do want it to be appropriate though that if I'm fighting say, The Oryx of this game, then yeah this big bad ass should take 15+ mins to take down if done right because of different stages of the encounter, etc.

So you think the average gamer remembers or even knows what the division looked like three years ago?

And everyone will know what the pc version looks like in 2 weeks. Even then. They owe you shit. Don't buy the product they show now. They showed you a vision 3 years ago. Not a complete game. Maybe you should think about that.

I think it's more likely that in typical Ubisoft fashion, the port has been farmed out to Ubisoft Kiev or whoever and it's a total afterthought and probably not that optimized. Buying a Ubisoft game on PC is always a coin toss.

Wasn't this game not even originally slated for PC until people got that petition going?

It's insane that people still don't realize, (or blatantly ignore) that this is being made by Massive Entertainment. A PC exclusive developer leading their first multiplat game. Ubisoft Kiev has nothing to do with the Division, not every game is published or developed in the same process as their AC series.

It's made by Massive. They are 100% making the PC build. And it's probably going to be good.

The main dev company, Ubisoft Massive, was formerly owned by Vivendi (Acti-Blizz) and made World in Conflict. So they have experience making PC games.

The Division has various aspects of it done by various studios though, so it's hard to say.

Cause you know all Ubisoft games are the same and they are made at the same place by the same developers...duh !

Do we know this for sure? I'll be glad to hear it if true.

I don't know if we can look at things from 2008 and expect them to be the same though. I'm very much NOT the type to shit all over Ubisoft like most people here, but this is very much a Ubi production as much as it is a Massive one. That means a ton of studios and people working on a huge project, sometimes for better and sometimes for worse.

Wait they're the same guys that made World of Conflict? My favorite RTS ever. This might not be as bad as I thought.

The Division does have about 4 or 5 different studios helping on it but the engine was 100% made by Massive and those other studios didn't join on the project until after it was announced and shown, so it's most likely the additional studios are helping with additional aspects like maps, networking, and things of that nature.

Wish this wasn't multiplayer. The world/setting looks so good and realistic in terms of the immediate effects of mass evacuation but the potential atmosphere is ruined with the lame back and forth shooting gallery stuff with other players. Would be cool to have a game like this that doesn't involve shooting and is just about survival in a major city like I Am Legend the game.

This isn't the game for you. And it's ok. You'll be fine.

7:00 - 7:35... Severe enemy bullet sponging like that turns me off so much. There are nearly no hit animations from being hit nearly point blank by semi automatic rounds from, at times, up to three sources simultaneously.

Monsters and creatures can get away with it I suppose, but this game supposed to have a realistic edge to it. Blah.

Another complaint of mine from the beta. I know the game is an RPG so it wouldn't make sense for enemies to go down as if it were Call of Duty, but it felt out of control at times.

Be careful a certain person might ask you to show him what was downgraded. Not like it's obvious that it's been downgraded from the initial reveal trailers.
"A certain person may challenge your view and actually hold your statement under scrutiny."
You never got back to me in that other thread. If you're gonna make a claim, actually back it up like i've done in this thread. Notice for instance how I used direct feed gifs for comparisoniinstead of making comparison images even blurrier than the footage in the OP.

I dont like this type of practice... at all, the E3 2013 version was a graphic showcase, and now we got this, the worse part is the people that are OK with this, Even watching the videos is boring, wtf...

THE DIVISION ON PC "WON'T BE A PORT". Hopefully this can give us some hope that all platforms haven't been limited by the lowest denominator.

If it takes me 10 headshots to kill an alien in Destiny, that's fine because they have tough alien skin. I can believe that. If it takes me 10 headshots to kill a guardian in Destiny PVP, that's fine because they're wearing a suit of space armor.

If I shoot a HUMAN BEING in the FACE with a BULLET, a number of incremental damage should not appear next to their still moving, still reloading body. They should be fucking dead.

All Ubisoft has to do here is give their enemies riot helmets and body armor. All of them. Make em look different, but I honestly don't think I can get past the lack of immersion of shooting human beings with machine guns in their arms and head and not have them... die.

I can relate to most arguments of GAF. I usually see where they're coming from and how it could be attributed to differing opinions or something. But people who vehemently complain about downgrades just reveal themselves to be pretty clueless view about how game development works.

With this press event done and over with my hope for there being end game content for PvE players is next to zero now. We are now less than two months from release and with not a single word on end game PvE content I can only assume it doesn't exist. Raids and Dungeons are a big selling point for a loot driven game like this, and I feel like they would have at least mentioned them by now if they were in the game. Basing their entire end game around fighting off other players for the best gear in the game sounds like a horrible idea that could lead to a whole lot of frustration and a lot of rage quitting the game entirely, and it makes me so sad. I enjoyed the Alpha a ton, and the game has so much potential, but so far their handling of the end game is the biggest buzzkill I have felt in gaming in a very long time. I would love to be proven wrong, but I feel like at this point the only reason they aren't answering any questions about end game PvE content is because they know the answer would lose a lot of pre-orders.

Looking at footage I'm finding the animations disappointing, and usually those are the highlight of a Ubisoft game.
My thoughts as well. Earlier on when the enemies were running in the room and taking cover, their animations in particular were just really stagnant.

The Dark Zone gameplay mechanics looks REALLY fun and tense, especially the extraction.

Holy... I am at the exact opposite of many of you: this game went from completely ignored by my radar to an all high want, hahah. It even has a nice character creator! And I do love me some nice character creator, hahaha.
