Fire Emblem Fates' localization doesn't have the petting minigame

Really? Do the same sex options have comparatively shorter events than the other ones in the game?

They're not really events... i'd liken them to interactions

Basically you could bring in a guy (or girl) and their responses would generally be intimate, regardless of their gender. So the idea is that you'd take your favorite character and interact with them to get certain dialogue, regardless of the protagonist's gender.

Are you seriously trying to argue Otakus are not a very small minority (but incredibly profitable for some things because waifu culture) even in Japan?

Doesn't sound like they are.

A lot gaffer really need to stop acting as if there aren't elements of otaku culture (or whatever the hell they think it is) that don't coincide with the mainstream Japan.

I'm really cool with Phoenix mode as normal mode isn't now stupid easy.

That is good to know, I haven't been keeping up with difficulty since I am pretty much going to jump into hard and stay there.

Is Lunatic less ridiculous than Awakening?

I guess a more interesting question is: Does IS even include this in future FE games now that they know it will be removed in certain markets?

Well, judging by this thread the majority has voted. Won't argue with that.

Personnally I won't buy the game unless dirty cheap and fan translated. I don't support cutting content, if I have an issue with a game I don't buy it, simple.

again so some people can see what sakurai said on this
"One such feature users commented on was the ability to invite your companions into your house and stroke their heads and faces to raise your affinity level. Basically, you bring them into your room—regardless of whether you’re married or not—and give them a rubdown. Even I chuckled to myself the first time I played: “What is this, Pokémon? Nintendogs!?” Some reviewers, however, went one step further and said, “We don’t need this!”

I’m not a big fan of dating sims myself, so I can’t say I don’t understand their disinterest to a certain extent. At the same time, however, the feature in question doesn’t have any impact on one’s ability to complete the game, so if it bothers you so much, then don’t use that feature.

Say you buy a boxed lunch and it happens to contain a variety of foods, including one you hate. Even if you love everything else about the meal, are you going to single out the one food you dislike and lambast the entire meal for it? What about the people who happen to love that food? Is a meal only worth it insofar as it caters to your each and every preference?

Developers include all sorts of bonus features simply because they want to provide a little something extra for the fans. Even if one were to remove these bonus features from the game, it doesn’t mean that would “make room” for something else. That isn’t how it works."

I didn't suggest face petting, itself, was forward-thinking or worthwhile. I'm saying I think the reason for its removal might be rooted in fear of conservative families taking issue with the visual of men physically touching men. NOA might feel like they're already pushing things with the few LGBT relationships in the game. They still strike me as a very cautious company in this regard.
I really doubt that is the issue, especially given the fact that when you did the minigame, it is in first person, so you don't see the Avatar. No matter who it is, the minigame is just creepy and uncomfortable.

I can't help being vocal about liking the end product better now, man.

It was completely optional. Hoping for changes in the gameplay or story make sense if you didn't like the direction things went in. But for optional content, there's absolutely no negative to you personally for keeping it in. Hoping for it to be removed when it's something you never have to even open is just douchey and possibly even Schadenfraude-based, unless just seeing that simple menu name makes you so upset over the direction of the series (which happened completely divorced from the mini-game itself).

It would be like me getting upset over some optional Chao Garden-like mini-game added to Final Fantasy 7 remake. I don't give a shit about that, I care that the gameplay itself isn't what I wanted!

But you're clearly not alone here, and that's what's disappointing.

Bane? Get them on board, I'll call it in.

That's possible.
Didn't the Japanese audience dislike it as well? Sequels tend to remove poorly-received features

Fan translations typically lose whatever steam they had when an official localized version is released. Most people playing don't give a shit to the extent needed to bother with homebrew to get around minor censorship/cut features. Fan translators are going to get more attention translating unavailable games than they will reversing localization changes.

Instead of bothering with Fates, people should be working on better translation patches for the SNES games.

A few remain completely untranslated as well. It's a shame, they are solid games. The retro translation has been picking up steam though so in due time.

But come on, the only project that matters is Tales of Rebirth.

The game was coming over anyway. This isn't some obscure niche series anymore. Fire Emblem is back as a tentpole series for Nintendo.

You say that like Nintendo is in good standing with western profits, hahaha

thats not fucking fair and you know it.

and if it was that simple, then why couldn't people who didn't like just ignore it?

Its funny how "deal with it" suddenly becomes an legit option when the shoe it turned...

You can always make your voice heard to Nintendo. Don't buy it and tell them why you didn't buy it. People tend to forget the latter part.

And remember in the future if the shoe turns again that "deal with it" isn't helpful advice.

Y'know, there was a period where I was getting into Fire Emblem (it was those GBA games, first time series made it outside Japan), but I fell off, didn't play the DS games or the 3DS ones.

Y'know...I'm okay with that. And I apologize to every FE fan out there, whether you want these things in your games or not, Nintendo should be aware of what their fans want for better or worse.

But I'm out, and I'm glad for it, wash my hands of this complete nonsense this series has been for a while now.

There's a delay between the US release and the EU release. Is it fair to asume that the EU release will be based on the US one (English translation) and we'll be suffering from the same cut content?

I remember that, for instance, some Tharja artwork was different among the three releases (JP/US/EU), so I'm not sure what to expect with the EU release.

I don't think this was cut because it's "offensive" in the NA market. I think it was cut because it's fuckin stupid.

Sigh. I don't care anymore. I'm broken

I'll see how I feel come February. It was a stupid mode and I was barely gonna use it but I'm glad it existed cuz it made me laugh it was in.

I don't like when things are changed because someone out there on a high horse wants to be offended for other people. I think it's great that all manner of things exist for all kinds of people. I don't want things to become homogenized

But I dunno. I've lost. I've lost it all

I'm gonna throw up. I feel sick

Sigh

I'll buy it anyway

Jesus Christ.

It's a fucking video game.

Japanese reviewers and general impressions had a lot of people calling it out, saying the series doesn't need it. That's what prompted Sakurai's response in Famitsu, where he lambasted people for getting upset about an optional thing. It's bad logic.

It makes me really sad seeing so many people cheering for the removal of a feature from a video game.

Regardless of what that feature is.

But don't you see? If the feature was there, that means people would turn into creeps overnight leading to the fall of American society.

Glad to know Nintendo is looking out for the rest of us!

All it takes is a Fox News story showing footage of the blushing square-jawed Fabio lookalike, and the added context of your character being male.

But hopefully you're right and it's not the reason.

Personally, I think it should be left in and if people don't like it, they just don't use it. Like Sakurai said on this very issue: It's an extra, and people don't have to use it, and the game shouldn't be diminished for its inclusion.

It's like how some people find Bayonetta creepy in Smash. To those people I say, don't use her.

Considering the latest Smash Bros was bloated with unwanted and dumb features, I'm not sure if I agree with him.

I'm not devastated that this was removed, but I am super confused as to why folks found this creepy in the first place. Anyone mind explaining?

Well, I don't think this was done by IS and was done by the Amie team from Pokemon who conspiciously didn't have a release last year.

I honestly thought it was something to keep the Amie people busy.

<-- I really don't know who did the live2d assets.

IMO, it was very detrimental to the tone of the game (and there are still lots of elements I don't like). Just because you ignore it, it doesn't mean you're not playing the game where you pet waifus and get lewd lines in return. Therefore, yes, I'm sorry but I'm happy about this change.

It will help more people who don't have a "japan being japan" tolerance finish the game, and therefore increasing the chance of getting the DLCs with other stories and therefore helping more fire emblem to exist

So, the mode was completely optional, had exclusive dialogue, binaural audio and both male and female characters.

Why is this getting completely removed and not even replaced with anything to make up for it a thing to celebrate? Like, don't pretend you're above this shit anyway if you're playing modern Fire Emblem.

I don't have a 3DS nor do I care about this series so I pretty much don't care but it's simply amazing to see excitement over getting less.

I wasn't interested in it, but as far as I know it was completely optional. What reason at all is there to celebrate it being removed? Some people might have enjoyed it, it was totally equal opportunity, and didn't harm anyone.

Nintendo is no fool. The uproar they would've gotten had they left it would have far surpassed that resulting from them deciding to cut it.

There is a neverending supply of people waiting to be outraged on Twitter and this very board alike for months on end, and if Nintendo happens to enrage the PC mob justice by including this quirky, if not naive, minigame they will be shamed and forced into asking forgiveness by some bigoted and opinionated "journalist" with an audience. They know that perfectly.

It is a really sad state of affairs where publishers and developers have to tip-toe around the wrath of journalists in search of an easy headline and alleged fans with too much time and venom to spew on twitter.

It makes even less sense as the content was already programmed and shipped in Japan to begin with it. Self censorship out of fear of witch hunts is not what I would call progress in the industry or something to rejoice about, although it seems like this is the prevailing sentiment on this board.

Because everything is creepy these days. Hell, you can't even talk or look at girls you find attractive anymore because you're liable to be called that.

Continuing Sakurai's food analogy, if there's a little bit of fecal matter in my lunchbox and someone's kind enough to fish it out for me, I say thank you. I'm not sad something got removed from my lunchbox. I'm not sad I'm getting "less food". The overall product is improved. Sure, I could've just ignored the little piece of shit and eaten my way around it, but that tiny turd being in there somewhere made the whole lunchbox worse.

And yes, while there are people out there that love to eat shit, that's really no concern of mine. Even empathy has a limit. Please go and satisfy your shiteating fetish elsewhere and keep it out of my lunchbox.
