and that first shit lunchbox was the best selling lunchbox in the series so far
Continuing Sakurai's food analogy, if there's a little bit of fecal matter in my lunchbox and someone's kind enough to fish it out for me, I say thank you. I'm not sad something got removed from my lunchbox. I'm not sad I'm getting "less food". The overall product is improved. Sure, I could've just ignored the little piece of shit and eaten my way around it, but that tiny turd being in there somewhere made the whole lunchbox worse.
And yes, while there are people out there that love to eat shit, that's really no concern of mine. Even empathy has a limit. Please go and satisfy your shiteating fetish elsewhere and keep it out of my lunchbox.

Time for me to make an outrageous analogy while insulting the other side because that is always productive to discussion.Continuing Sakurai's food analogy, if there's a little bit of fecal matter in my lunchbox and someone's kind enough to fish it out for me, I say thank you. That's what all the fuss is about?
I'd like to bring something up in this conversation, in one of the english gameplay videos, there was an exclamation mark above the "private quarters" (the place in the hub you go to to change your hairstyle and go to the petting minigame.).
In the Japanese version, this exclamation mark only appeared when petting was available. (it can be used once per chapter or so).
So, my point is we're probably getting a replacement of some sort. (Or they left a bugged notification icon over it in the localization, but I hope not)
(I don't know why I use ellipses so much forgive me)
Because everything is creepy these days. Hell, you can't even talk or look at girls you find attractive anymore because you're liable to be called that.
Sigh. I don't care anymore. I'm broken
I'll see how I feel come February. It was a stupid mode and I was barely gonna use it but I'm glad it existed cuz it made me laugh it was in.
I don't like when things are changed because someone out there on a high horse wants to be offended for other people. I think it's great that all manner of things exist for all kinds of people. I don't want things to become homogenized
But I dunno. I've lost. I've lost it all
I'm gonna throw up. I feel sick
Sigh
I'll buy it anyway
it's funny because in every single thread that criticizes a games for being sexist/racist/creepy/etc there are many, many posts that boil down to "sex sells just deal with it" or "vote with your wallet". but when market forces flip things around it's censorship.
This what I hope for in the future.I think my final stance on it is basically: removing stuff from games is weird, but I'd hope that IS can find better ways to allow more interaction with characters without having to resort to minigames where you pet people.

What if you still talk to them, you just don't pet them? That'd actually be a decent compromise.
Maybe... they kept the whole 'invite someone over' menu, with the list of characters, and there's a little brief hangout conversation and it ends and you get the little support bonus? They literally just cut the minigame but not necessarily inviting peeps over?
I don't even care for FE much after the gameplay in Awakening but, the petting thing is a trope that has been around forever made to be endearing as in "Oh you are cute". Not malicious or anything I'm sure. I would have ignored it like I did in Pokémon but, NoA's choice.Do we really need japanese rubbing simulators to catch on here?
Nothing of value was lost
I didn't make this decision. NOA never asked me if I wanted this change to happen. That doesn't mean I'm not extremely glad with their decisionreally? you dont need it but you're not everyone , if you take that way you can remove everything you you dont want and make a special edition by hacking it...
Or more easy, you know you dont use it and everyone wins the ones who want it and the ones who wont use it.
Nintendo are often one of the better companies at having a proper UK English translation in a European edition of their games rather than using the U.S. one, so who knows. There's a delay between the US release and the EU release. Is it fair to asume that the EU release will be based on the US one (English translation) and we'll be suffering from the same cut content?
I remember that, for instance, some Tharja artwork was different among the three releases (JP/US/EU), so I'm not sure what to expect with the EU release.

If a game has content cut that I wanted, then I won't buy it, plain and simple. Unlike people who simply say "i don't like this at all but here's my money anyways" (some in this very thread like Coffee Dog), I just won't support it at all. And if face-rubbing is the hill you want to die on when it comes to this "issue," then hey, go for it.
And for the record, cut content that is creepy/embarrassing/pedo-riffic is fine and fair game to get cut, no matter what the region.
Unless there's something I'm missing, it looks like the characters are fully clothed and just smile, tilt their head slightly, and blush a little when you brush their cheek. This looks so hilariously ridiculous. Shame they cut something eccentric just cause it might ruffle the feathers of potential uptight, humorless players.
Get it together Nintendo. Jesus.
Gore (look I've my stomach open, bleeding out you can my organs) is fine but petting is stupid ?
/ok

This is my suspicion as well.
Quoting myself from the general FE thread.
We trade complaining about the minigame for complaints about "censorship."
An even trade.
What if you still talk to them, you just don't pet them? That'd actually be a decent compromise.
I thought Fire Emblem was a serious SRPG. What happened.
See, I could've taken my analogy through to its inevitable conclusion, but I thought I already antagonised people enough, so I left that bit up as a mere implication.I think it says more a lot about you that you're still willing to eat from that lunchbox no matter what you find in it. Going by your analogy, a "normal" person would look at it, find it gross, and eat something else instead.

I have no issues with this but I fully expect a gamergate shitstorm in about ten seconds
Expect to see lots of people blaming Allison Rapp even though she has nothing to do with localization
Yup.
Nobody outside of a tiny minority of people is going to care about this considering how a lot of people found its presence in the game off-putting to begin with.

None of this shit would be happening if more people just played XCOM
Thanks. Yeah, it's incredibly frustrating to see so many people in support of its removal while I'm sure they're not realizing this perspective.
I'm honestly considering whether or not I should try to raise awareness of this like I did for Tomodachi Life, but I'm not sure it would really matter much at this point. I like to think that the Miiquality campaign at least partially influenced Nintendo's decision to add same-sex marriage and intimacy in Fire Emblem Fates, so it was a win in that sense (and we're still waiting to see what may come of a new Tomodachi Life game), but now we're losing a big part of that in the localization... Of course, there's not going to be any changes to the game before release now since the localization is already done, and I highly doubt they'd bother patching it in later since that would mean more text and voice to localize... This whole situation just sucks. =/
Good riddance.
I have a certain amount of sympathy with this, but I can't help but think it's reaching a bit (platonically rubbing guys' faces is absolutely no substitute for actually meaningful LGBT content), and I CERTAINLY don't think what it's what the vast majority of the defenders of this have in mind.
I don't want to be insulting, but if you're getting called "creepy" for talking to girls, you might have a deeper problem than just "oh lol pc culture".
