Fire Emblem Fates' localization doesn't have the petting minigame

and that first shit lunchbox was the best selling lunchbox in the series so far

Tiki's been in since the first game, bruh. and she's a pantsless little girl.

My entire problem with this being removed for anything other than financial reasons is that blatant shit like that gets ignored.

Continuing Sakurai's food analogy, if there's a little bit of fecal matter in my lunchbox and someone's kind enough to fish it out for me, I say thank you. I'm not sad something got removed from my lunchbox. I'm not sad I'm getting "less food". The overall product is improved. Sure, I could've just ignored the little piece of shit and eaten my way around it, but that tiny turd being in there somewhere made the whole lunchbox worse.

And yes, while there are people out there that love to eat shit, that's really no concern of mine. Even empathy has a limit. Please go and satisfy your shiteating fetish elsewhere and keep it out of my lunchbox.

Damn dude

That post was absolutely savage, haha

I'd like to bring something up in this conversation, in one of the english gameplay videos, there was an exclamation mark above the "private quarters" (the place in the hub you go to to change your hairstyle and go to the petting minigame.).

In the Japanese version, this exclamation mark only appeared when petting was available. (it can be used once per chapter or so).

So, my point is we're probably getting a replacement of some sort. (Or they left a bugged notification icon over it in the localization, but I hope not)

(I don't know why I use ellipses so much forgive me)

I think it says more a lot about you're still willing to eat from that lunchbox no matter what you find in it. Going by your analogy, a "normal" person would look at it, find it gross, and eat something else instead.

Time for me to make an outrageous analogy while insulting the other side because that is always productive to discussion.

What if you still talk to them, you just don't pet them? That'd actually be a decent compromise.

Sigh. I don't care anymore. I'm broken

I'll see how I feel come February. It was a stupid mode and I was barely gonna use it but I'm glad it existed cuz it made me laugh it was in.

I don't like when things are changed because someone out there on a high horse wants to be offended for other people. I think it's great that all manner of things exist for all kinds of people. I don't want things to become homogenized

But I dunno. I've lost. I've lost it all

I'm gonna throw up. I feel sick

Sigh

I'll buy it anyway

it's funny because in every single thread that criticizes a games for being sexist/racist/creepy/etc there are many, many posts that boil down to "sex sells just deal with it" or "vote with your wallet". but when market forces flip things around it's censorship.

Heh, same.

Either way, I hope IS leaves this out of future Fire Emblem games.

Nobody from IS contacted anyone in localisation to see if using resources for this feature was worth it?

It seems like a rather large amount of content to be removed by localisation, but it makes perfect sense that they are removing it.

Seems like kind of poor management by IS that this was even allowed to pass, since it not being localized was totally obvious.

This is my suspicion as well.

Maybe... they kept the whole 'invite someone over' menu, with the list of characters, and there's a little brief hangout conversation and it ends and you get the little support bonus? They literally just cut the minigame but not necessarily inviting peeps over?

Quoting myself from the general FE thread.

That's what they called it lol. The Japanese version calls it "My room". (literally. "My room" in katakana)

Do we really need japanese rubbing simulators to catch on here?

Nothing of value was lost
I don't even care for FE much after the gameplay in Awakening but, the petting thing is a trope that has been around forever made to be endearing as in "Oh you are cute". Not malicious or anything I'm sure. I would have ignored it like I did in Pokémon but, NoA's choice.

Also you could literally only pet their heads not their entire body like Pokemon.

really? you dont need it but you're not everyone , if you take that way you can remove everything you you dont want and make a special edition by hacking it...

Or more easy, you know you dont use it and everyone wins the ones who want it and the ones who wont use it.
I didn't make this decision. NOA never asked me if I wanted this change to happen. That doesn't mean I'm not extremely glad with their decision :p

Lol at people still pretending we're "offended" if we don't want this feature. That's one harshly beaten strawman.

There's a delay between the US release and the EU release. Is it fair to asume that the EU release will be based on the US one (English translation) and we'll be suffering from the same cut content?

I remember that, for instance, some Tharja artwork was different among the three releases (JP/US/EU), so I'm not sure what to expect with the EU release.
Nintendo are often one of the better companies at having a proper UK English translation in a European edition of their games rather than using the U.S. one, so who knows.

If the reason is actually cost of voice acting rather than the given one of western localisation, I imagine it will still be pulled.

1) this isn't sex 2) they're not reacting to a market force as this is preemptive.

Yup.

Nobody outside of a tiny minority of people is going to care about this considering how a lot of people found its presence in the game off-putting to begin with.

Because everything is creepy these days. Hell, you can't even talk or look at girls you find attractive anymore because you're liable to be called that.

That sounds like it's on you, dude.

If a game has content cut that I wanted, then I won't buy it, plain and simple. Unlike people who simply say "i don't like this at all but here's my money anyways" (some in this very thread like Coffee Dog), I just won't support it at all. And if face-rubbing is the hill you want to die on when it comes to this "issue," then hey, go for it.

And for the record, cut content that is creepy/embarrassing/pedo-riffic is fine and fair game to get cut, no matter what the region.

but they aren't cutting creepy/pedo-riffic content, which has been in the series since the first game. I'd be on board if they were. they're picking and choosing what to cut, and certain people take issue with their game having objectively less than a game in another region when it seems the standards are arbitrary (or likely, financial). It shouldn't be hard to see why that crosses a line for some people.

This looks so hilariously ridiculous. Shame they cut something eccentric just cause it might ruffle the feathers of potential uptight, humorless players.

Get it together Nintendo. Jesus.
Unless there's something I'm missing, it looks like the characters are fully clothed and just smile, tilt their head slightly, and blush a little when you brush their cheek.

Nintendo is truly pushing the boundaries of hardcore pornography.

I don't want to be insulting, but if you're getting called "creepy" for talking to girls, you might have a deeper problem than just "oh lol pc culture".

I can live with it, but I hope there's no one foolish enough to pretend this isn't censorship in
this thread. Something being removed because it's creepy doesn't make something not censorship.

We trade complaining about the minigame for complaints about "censorship."

An even trade.

Too late, this will be a long thread, I'm out. It was removed for obvious reasons, but let's not be thick about it. I don't know what to think about it.

IS went in too hard for the otaku-pandering and NoA called them on it. Cool. The fact that it's been removed in the localization could potentially mean that IS doesn't bother with it in the future ever again, so win win situation here.

None of this shit would be happening if more people just played XCOM

Fire Emblem used to be a series with some reservation about it's cheesecake and it was something I respected. After not being impressed with Awakening, and playing #FE to realize it's shit, I don't think I'll be bothering with Fates if this is what the series will be from now on

See, I could've taken my analogy through to its inevitable conclusion, but I thought I already antagonised people enough, so I left that bit up as a mere implication. :D Thanks for voicing the next step, though.

On another note, if you can point me towards other lunchbox makers good SRPG games that can replace Fire Emblem's place in my heart, feel free. XCOM2© releases February 5, 2016.

I have no issues with this but I fully expect a gamergate shitstorm in about ten seconds

Expect to see lots of people blaming Allison Rapp even though she has nothing to do with localization

I haven't read a lot of the topic and I sincerely hope that hasn't happened...that said, we had loads of people defending the gay conversion and date rape thing being removed so I'm sure this has also bothered them. That said, this looks more harmless (still creepy and stupid but harmless) than the problematic aspects of Soleli's character. I wouldn't care if it was in but I don't mind it's removal either. If it was forced on me then I would be bothered by it. That said too-seeing the husbandos in the gifs on the first page did make me giggle.

Considering this is a series that has a long tradition of 1000 year old dragon children, I am going to mock you if insist on removing all the green shit while still slurping down the brown.

I'm not commenting on a lot on this thread, but I don't think you have numbers for that.

I'm currently playing FE4, I just finished the chapter 5 where
The hero and his party got trapped and all die, while the hero's wife being mind controlled is now married to the bad guy.
No petting
No drugs
No moe shit
Good characters and story about war and heroes.

Several people seem to not see the difference between petting dogs and petting humans. Petting humans is a really maladjusted portrayal of intimacy. And no I'm not trying to tell you how to wet your whistle.

Thanks. Yeah, it's incredibly frustrating to see so many people in support of its removal while I'm sure they're not realizing this perspective.

I'm honestly considering whether or not I should try to raise awareness of this like I did for Tomodachi Life, but I'm not sure it would really matter much at this point. I like to think that the Miiquality campaign at least partially influenced Nintendo's decision to add same-sex marriage and intimacy in Fire Emblem Fates, so it was a win in that sense (and we're still waiting to see what may come of a new Tomodachi Life game), but now we're losing a big part of that in the localization... Of course, there's not going to be any changes to the game before release now since the localization is already done, and I highly doubt they'd bother patching it in later since that would mean more text and voice to localize... This whole situation just sucks. =/

I mean, I do think there's value in Nintendo knowing people are upset, but I imagine they know already. I don't know if there's any point in starting a campaign over it, but maybe something small to raise awareness.

Good riddance.

I have a certain amount of sympathy with this, but I can't help but think it's reaching a bit (platonically rubbing guys' faces is absolutely no substitute for actually meaningful LGBT content), and I CERTAINLY don't think what it's what the vast majority of the defenders of this have in mind.

I definitely have it in mind. Not ONLY what I have in mind as it's silly all around and had value, but the fact people aren't even entertaining the thought and going right to "yay, no more creepy" even when the guy responsible for an incredibly progressive shift in Nintendo's mindset is speaking out against the choice is just really disappointing imo.

I don't have a problem but thank you for caring.

But just head to any site like Reddit or even OT GAF where you'll see people saying that you shouldn't talk to strangers on public spaces because they may find it creepy.
