None of this shit would be happening if more people just played XCOM
I'd kill for Xcom amie.
Those sectoids are so kawaii ^-^
None of this shit would be happening if more people just played XCOM
Yup.
Nobody outside of a tiny minority of people is going to care about this considering how a lot of people found its presence in the game off-putting to begin with.
See, I could've taken my analogy through to its inevitable conclusion, but I thought I already antagonised people enough, so I left that bit up as a mere implication. Thanks for voicing the next step, though.
On another note, if you can point me towards otherlunchbox makersgood SRPG games that can replace Fire Emblem's place in my heart, feel free.

Unless there's something I'm missing, it looks like the characters are fully clothed and just smile, tilt their head slightly, and blush a little when you brush their cheek.
Nintendo is truly pushing the boundaries of hardcore pornography.
I thought Fire Emblem was a serious SRPG. What happened.
Continuing Sakurai's food analogy, if there's a little bit of fecal matter in my lunchbox and someone's kind enough to fish it out for me, I say thank you. I'm not sad something got removed from my lunchbox. I'm not sad I'm getting "less food". The overall product is improved. Sure, I could've just ignored the little piece of shit and eaten my way around it, but that tiny turd being in there somewhere made the whole lunchbox worse.
And yes, while there are people out there that love to eat shit, that's really no concern of mine. Even empathy has a limit. Please go and satisfy your shiteating fetish elsewhere and keep it out of my lunchbox.
And that's why it is called preventive censorship, i.e. removing contents before they can even do harm. Can we stop pretending there was a huge swath of people crying out for this to be cut? There were no petitions or cries for this to be censored. If it released here it probably what have amounted to same reaction seen here, "that's weird and kind of creepy"
I'm currently playing FE4, I just finished the chapter 5 where
No pettingThe hero and his party got trapped and all die, while the hero's wife being mind controlled is now married to the bad guy.
No drugs
No moe shit
Good characters and story about war and heroes.
From what I saw (rough translations months ago) it was a lot of lines of dialogue but not much substance.
Some characters had a few more interesting lines, but I wouldn't call it substantial characterization.
What if you still talk to them, you just don't pet them? That'd actually be a decent compromise.
Incoming squad petting mod for XCOM2?

That's more reasonable. But given how seemingly optional and silly this mini-game seemed to be, my fear is simply the slippery slope.
At this point, it'll be really interesting to see what they change in #FE, and not if they do it.
So more fluff, little substance. Guess that implies I wouldn't be missing out on much I suppose. Would still like to get them regardless.
I'd be perfectly okay with this. We'd get the character interactions and (potentially) the CG artwork and in turn, we wouldn't have to go through the rub-a-dub-dub game to do so. Please let this be the case.

That sounds like it's on you, dude.

Fire Emblem used to be a series with some reservation about it's cheesecake and it was something I respected. After not being impressed with Awakening, and playing #FE to realize it's shit, I don't think I'll be bothering with Fates if this is what the series will be from now on
Incoming squad petting mod for XCOM2?
That's not exactly fairFE4 blows every other Fire Emblem game out of the water in that regard.
It's not even close.
Incoming squad petting mod for XCOM2?
I mean this is nothing in comparison to #Fe, Everything in #fe is intrinsic to the game, and just not translate well. I wouldn't wish localizing that game on my worst enemy.
I would totally buy X Com if I could headpat an alien.
February will be a great time for face-rubbing-less strategic awesomeness with FE and XCOM 2 <3
GET BACK YOU FUCKING VULTURES

So considering the source is from Kotaku.
Is there any more reliable sites confirming this?
Not everything. Optional elements like the hot springs DLC in #FE would be as intrinsic to the game as the petting in Fates.
The removal of "content" that flies flagrantly against the tone of the game and more or less amounts to pandering for pandering's sake is only a benefit. It's strange to me that so many people have this idea that more content inherently equals better. And that's why it is called preventive censorship, i.e. removing contents before they can even do harm.
All I see is people doing some rather remarkable mental gymanistics to justify being happy about Nintendo cutting material from their games, secondary or useless as it might be.
Which is why in another topic I've said FE4 was the peak and hasn't come close to being on par with it.

If there was a remake of Star Wars: Episode I that removed or reduced Jar Jar Binks' role to try and make the overall message of the film better would you be crying out how that was censorship? Is that really different?
I realize this is overused here, but this thread really does read like an all-out war of anime avatars vs. the rest of gaf.
lol at the spoiler while saying no drugs, sooo different
The feature was dumb, but removing it is silly, especially since it was completely optional.
Oh well.
It's re-Awakening happened.
Awakening was the best selling game in the series.
Is there a fan translation patch for FE4?
How I feel about this. Didn't read much about it, but if the petting feature actually is an effective way to raise affinity, I'm sure I would use it and cutting it out seems silly, although completely understandable.
Still kinda funny to see meltdowns over this.

what are you talking about? i play fire emblem only for the excellently written dialogue, superb artwork and gripping story and relationships. i imagine a lot more people are in the same boat as me. this is a serious blow in the face. i won't be supporting this series anymore that's for sure. It's still a serious SRPG from a gameplay standpoint. Goofy character stuff and anime tropes have always been part of the series. The recent entries have been playing up character pairing more than was the case in the past (even though character pairing/supports existed in the past games as well).
