The Division Beta Thread: Make Manhattan Great Again

Not open for further replies.
4.5 hours left till it unlocks for me here in NYC (EST)...might pull an all-nighter playing Rise of the Tomb Raider and jump right into The Division
Lol im staying up too playing rainbow six until about 6am than making some breakfast getting ready for 7. Nice having the weekend off to enjoy the whole beta

The Division is the game I thought Destiny would be. Completely open world, in world quests, the way stats are displayed and affect the game, actual talent trees and skills, I can actually go everywhere I can see.

Gah. I had zero interest in this game prior to beta but I really want to preorder it now. Even something a sbeig able to use a heal when to help out my teammates instead of running is such an improvement. The Dark Zone is intense. And running around with a group of 4, trying your hardest to steal loot and extract it all is fantastic.

Take notes Bungie, please take notes for Destiny 2. I mean this in the most sincerest of ways. please.

FYI you do need PS+ and Gold to go in the Dark Zone.

Also this game scratches the itch that Destiny couldnt, this past week I was really considering dropping my preorder. Absolutely not now this game is rad.

The Dark Zone is TENSE.

What happens if you go into the Dark Zone and don't have PS+?

sounds like the Division beta is going to be like SW: Battlefront where the beta was so well received that it generated a lot of good will...before the beta a lot of people were skeptical about the game but afterwards it received almost universal praise...looks like The Division is going to receive a similar bump

I preordered from Amazon and started to sign up, not realizing it asks you during the process for your friend emails if you want to do that. I thought to back out but apparently it auto-completes as if you had put in no friend requests and I could not access the option afterwards. :(

So my question is are the friend invites guaranteed to get in or is it just, like, signing them up for the abominable waitlist?

There are safe zones within' the dark zone where you can access your stash if I'm not mistaken.

Safe Zones OUTSIDE the dark zones have stash boxes, safe zones INSIDE the dark zone do NOT have stash boxes. Its cumbersome but after a few chopper pickups of loot you need to head outside the dark zone, bring up your mini map, and then fast travel to the main base or an (outside) safe house to access your stash box.

Game is good...

But content is what i am concerned about....

Destiny has raids and strikes...Will this have a raid for example ?

Also enemy types are important...I dont know but killing human AI enemies is not so fun on long term..

Played it with 2 friends yesterday and I think it was awesome. Dark Zone is really interesting and we had some nice encounters.

People trying to shoot one friend while we were extracting and not noticing us taking cover. So they tried to steal our loot but ended in being taken away theirs ;)

The city is just beautiful, so much to see and explore. Beginning was great, when you come into that starting zone with other players. Too bad once you leave that area you're alone on the map (except for your squad and of course the Dark Zone). But you still can see your friends on the minimap even if their not in your squad.

Loot was a bit weird. I found only one weapon (level 7) so far that's slightly better than the level 4 starting MP5. And I did buy a blue level 7 AK47 that was a bit better than my starting M4. The rest of the loot was (way) worse than the starting weapons, even higher level blue stuff...

We've been playing over 4 hours and it feels like we just scratched the surface.

I got my beta key from the Ubi email but I'm just getting 'The Prepaid Card code you entered is incorrect or is no longer valid'. Tried redeeming it on both my PS4 and on the PSN website. Anyone else get that?

Hope you weren't thinking there would be zombies or whatever else. This not that game.

We don't know about strikes and raid, we know very little about the game.
I would be surprised if you will end up fighting aliens or zombies. It'll always be human, I hope they want to find a way to keep it fresh.

They should just drop the tom clancy name from the game and go all out for expansions. I want to fight the rat people in the sewers, flu zombies, fucking alien invasion I don't care. There is only so much "armored guy wielding a _____" enemy types you can kill before it starts feeling stale.

I went to those and I couldn't find my stash anywhere. Can someone point me to where it is in a safe zone?

I guess I was lied to. My bad.

Their going to have to add more different looking, acting and feeling bad guys ( weapons not just thug batters and handguns). To keep this interesting plus different safe zone and dark zone missions both pvp and pve, mybe even more of a mix but with more then just horde mode elements. Recon, Escort, Fixing broken enivorment nodes...etc

Also increase enemy numbers.

approximately how many hours is the single player story in the game?...is the entire map available to explore in the beta?

No one knows for certain on campaign length and replayability outside of Ubi studios. No, you only get a thin slice of the city and mission content in the beta, exactly the same as the alpha.

Is it worth it signing up for that Uplay stuff? I'm very security conscious, and I know companies like EA and ubisoft have agreements with Microsoft to get your info and whatnot. All the EA hack and security issues has me iffy about signing up with Ubisoft. I always thought all the Assassin's games and stuff I played in the past had some uplay stuff with my gamertag but when I click Division beta, it wants me to create something new, download some new app for Xbox One.

If you are that paranoid get off the internet.

How is this relevant? It's a specific game publisher asking you to download a new app, create a new account, share all kinds of info just to play. Something I didn't have to do for the myriad of games before. I mean obviously the fact I have the beta downloaded for Xbox One means I want to play, but just curious what others think.

This was my main concern about having to stick to a 'realistic' setting. Fighting only a single type of enemy is not good for an RPG- yes there are different factions but in the end they're still human and they would fight and behave like humans.

UNLESS, they have something like the psychotic bosses from Dead Rising, or the bombastic bosses from Metal Gear... But I highly doubt a western developer would be willing to do that.

Probably, just wish they would actually spell it out like that instead. I don't feel like I'm loosing any information in the Home Cinema mix (stereo speaker setup), but now I'm afraid that I am.

Yeah, I thought it was weird and sorta vague, too. On X1, anyway, your system settings should universally downmix surround to stereo if that's what you're set to, so you shouldn't really lose anything apart from very low freq audio.

Is uplay's "preload" like Steam? In the sense that it requires twice the amount of hard drive space then what it tells you?

Valve fixed that several months ago, FYI. Pre-load data is now split into ~1GB chunks that are unpacked and deleted on-the-fly when decrypting, so these days all you need is the stated install size plus roughly a gig. Particularly good news for those with SSDs.

This is my biggest concern about the game. I personally don't mind human AI enemies.
but if end game is only PvP that will get boring very soon.

Ah, that's right. I noticed that when my PC unpacking RotTR as well earlier this morning. The process took about 1,5GB from my HDD at most, and then it was starting to free up some space until it's finished.

So, it means that we won't have to worry about that, right? Good to know.

But none of those things would fit anyway. Given the sitting plus it would be a hard balance. They are trying to take back new york and make it a city again. So its not about some crazy scfi units that has taken new york ala crysis.

Plus people have destiny for the werid stuff.

Nah. I've been killing human type enemies for over 25 years and haven't had any loss of fun. That's pretty long term.

End game content is the most important thing in this kind of game so it's the thing I'm eager to understand more than anything else in the game structure.

Yeah. If you look in your SteamApps\depotcache folder you'll see The Division's beta (414461) is split up into 26 CSD files that are collectively 24.8GB.

At the very start of the game, has anybody else had that door just before you get to the open world had the door blocked. For me, four assholes were doing that, and they can all suck a bag of dicks.

What's the most fantastical threat in the Tom Clancy universe of fiction? That should tell you not to expect zombies or monsters, just organized human factions and a bit of futuristic possibilities laced in. There's plenty of room for interesting design with combat encounters and the scenario to provide for hours of content.
