So I just found this project on Kickstarter for a new WWII multiplayer shooter. It's being developed by Bulkhead Interactive, which comprises of ex-AAA developers, ex-modders and ex-esports players. The game will make use of the Unreal Engine 4 and is being planned to release on PC (Steam) and PS4 and Xbox One. The game still looks a little rough in the trailer, but it's still in early development so lot's of room for improvement. This has potential. Stretch goal is £100.000 and you get a PC copy when you pledge £13 or £22 for a PS4/XB1 game. Lot's more information about features and such on the Kickstarter page.
At its core, Battalion 1944 is a classic multiplayer first person shooter. Set in the battle locations of World War 2 with an emphasis on skill and rewards. Currently Battalion fields strong classic game modes such as Capture the Flag, Domination and Team Deathmatch. Alongside the classics we are experimenting with new game modes, we'll be calling on Founder & Partner backers in the coming months to help us test and balance these new game modes. Battalion is an infantry based game, using weapons from the WW2 era, meaning precise aim with your Kar98, covering fire with your M1 Garand and quick thinking with your Thompson are key to success.

Competition is at the heart of Battalion, maps are designed with different game modes and server sizes in mind. Whether you like to run and gun in a Deathmatch arena with 16 players, or rifle it out in a robust competitive layout with smaller and more focused team sizes, all playstyles can and will be catered for. We’ll even enable players to admin their own servers and play with their own rule sets, allowing you to add all the mayhem or restrictions that you want.

Looks understandably rough, but seems ok.

Shame it's multiplayer only, but I'll take any kind of WW2 game so I hope it makes it.

Glad to see a return to WW2 games, though it makes me wish DICE or CoD would return to that time.

COD2 on modern consoles/PC would be godly.

Please turn off that Chromatic Aberration, makes the shots look worse.
Yeah, they've gone way overboard with that. It's much, much more stronger than the default UE4 CA values. I get that a lot of people seem to feel it's a very atmospheric effect, that's simply way too much.

It's most likely toggleable though, since I can actually say that is very easy to implement.

Nothing makes me feel confident in a kickstarter succeeding than having Esports players working on it.
They do have a track record of shipping with the particular engine (which is something not a lot of people can say, and neither was exactly easy for us either) and I would say that it's a valuable addition when designing an MP-only these days. I wouldn't count it as a negative when you factor in that the team has at least a decent track record, I would much rather pay attention to the fact that the budget is still quite low (total 200K£), which could be just a year of development with quite small team, and the fact that it will still face a tough challenge in keeping the game alive.

My heart skipped a beat misreading the title as a potential Battlefield 1944 announcement.

I guess I know what I really want deep down, and this looks nothing like it. Good luck to them but they're taking on a huge challenge.

I have so been waiting for something like this. Back to the golden days of Call of Duty 1 & 2, Battlefield 1942, Day of Defeat and Medal of Honor, boys.

I just hope there will be enough content. Snowy maps and Eastern front are some essentials for a game like this.

E: How could I forget Enemy Territory.

Looks like it has potential to me. Hopefully the KS campaign is a success or they at least find an alternate funding source.

I'm a huge Day Of Defeat and Battlefield 1943 fan. I'll keep an eye on this.

But first, I'll wait to see what Battlefield 5 has to offer first.

I know I'm not alone in saying the eject ping sound effect of a cartridge in a M1 Garand is one of the most aurally pleasing in FPSs.

Not really seeing anything here that would convince me to play this over Red Orchestra 2.

On the scale of COD - RO2. The combat looks like a WW2 Verdun.
Not arcadey enough to sate my WW2 COD fix but not hardcore to match RO.

The best is when you can hear it trail away from you in 3d space. Followed closely by the sound of the kar98 bolting another shot in to place.

Recently started playing MoHAirborne, and it's pretty great for what it's trying to do. Story is non existent though. There are still populated servers for it too.

I grew up with WW2 shooters like Medal of Honor, Day of Defeat, CoD1/2, etc so hearing the devs talk about how much they loved them really makes me all giddy inside. When does the kickstarter go live? I'd love to back this.

Wow, my friend actually just sent me this video and I am pretty impressed! Might back the Kickstarter when it launches if it actually looks promising.

Looks very interesting for me.I want to play more ww2 games, i'm fucking tired of the future bullshit.Count me in.

Looks great but I can't believe these devs are wasting time making 25% of a FPS only

I know that your joking, but that joke doesn't even make sense. The 75% was in relation to the cost, not the amount of game. Actually the opposite, the 25% of the cost that is focused on multiplayer was said to take up the majority of the game play. So they're really making 80% of game, for 25% of the cost.

People referred to MP only games in that thread as 25% of an FPS. Which we all know isn't true.

I'm going to back for the first console tier. My first time backing a Kickstarter. This is the kind of game I need. No bullshit, just gunplay.

If there aren't support for mods and player owned dedicated servers, it is hard to maintain a community in a game like this. I don't see anything about either of these things so it doesn't bode well imho.
