Kimishima: Unannounced 3DS games coming, wants more Wii U titles like Splatoon and MM

I continually refer to Splatoon and Super Mario Maker as "phenomenon games." I'd say they are up there with Smash Bros and Mario Kart, but offer a bit of a fresh approach.

Nintendo absolutely needs more games like that. More games that create senses of community and get people genuinely excited to participate.

They are. They are different after the service period than they were at release.

Well argued. DLC doesn't change the core, its an addition.

Just as a reminder, I did not argue that there will be or won't be games as services. I said Ansatz talking out of his ass and a credible unrelated rumor (Smash port) are not related. We need a credible related rumor about gaming as a service to lend Ansatz talking out of his ass any credibility.

The missions last 15-20 minutes max. Are we really complaining that we'll have to spend 10 more minutes to complete a mission because we lacked the foresight to see we would be bored of the game 10 minutes later?

"Max"

Well that's a lie, and I'm sure you'll retort with "well it's not Nintendo's fault that you are bad at video games." No, amazingly enough, Nintendo may have just made a game that just so happens to have a flaw.

We now have official translations of the things that were translated in the OP

First, I'll address Nintendo 3DS and Wii U. As I described in the presentation today, Nintendo 3DS has sold over 20 million hardware units in Japan and over 54 million units globally. This presents an excellent chance to increase revenue through software sales in the Nintendo 3DS business. We presented a number of titles today that show what kind of software can drive our business. We have not yet announced all of the Nintendo 3DS software for the next fiscal year, but we are proceeding with development, including major titles. The Nintendo 3DS will continue to be a major pillar of our business in the coming fiscal year.

As for the Wii U, we have just passed 10 million units worldwide, so it is not quite on the level of the Nintendo 3DS. However, we have received a great response for titles such as Splatoon and Super Mario Maker, and we would like to continue to release titles we expect to be received positively in the next fiscal year.

Not quite. Remember when the gameboy line was supposed to remain a major pillar during the ds announcement? Means nothing

They said the same thing about the GBA when the DS was coming out.

Let's look back and examine what exactly happened after the Game Boy Advance was prematurely replaced in late 2004/early 2005.

These are Nintendo published releases on the GBA from January 2005 and on. The first category includes games that were already released in Japan prior to 2005.

Code:
[B]Late Western releases:[/B]

NES Classics Series: Dr. Mario, Metroid, and Zelda II (EU 2005)
The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap (NA 2005)
Yoshi's Universal Gravitation/Topsy-Turvy (NA + EU 2005)
Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones (NA + EU, 2005)
WarioWare: Twisted (NA + EU, 2005)

Dynasty Warriors Advance (2005)
Donkey Kong Country 3 (2005, NA + EU only)
DK: King of Swing (2005)
Pokémon Emerald (2005)
Dr. Mario/Puzzle League (2005)
Mario Tennis: Power Tour (2005)
Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team
(2005-2006)

Code:
[B]Japan Only:[/B]
Sennen Kazoku (2005 JP only)
Nonono Puzzle Chalien (2005 JP only)
Bit Generations Series (2006 JP only, 7 individual budget titles)
Rhythm Heaven (2006 JP only)
Mother 3 (2006 JP only)
Eyeshield 21: Devilbats Devildays (2006 JP only)
The Tower SP (2006, Sega published in NA)
Calciobit (2006)

Code:
[B]Japan and North America only:[/B]

Drill Dozer (JP + NA, 2005-2006)

In the below the original Japanese date is disregarded as either Square Enix or Namco published the game in the region. Regardless, only Tales of Phantasia's Japanese GBA release predates 2005.

Code:
[B]Nintendo published third-party games outside Japan 2005-:[/B]

Final Fantasy IV Advance (2005)
Tales of Phantasia (2006)
Polarium Advance (2006)
Final Fantasy V Advance (2006)
Final Fantasy VI Advance (2007)

How did Nintendo not seriously treat the Game Boy Advance as a third pillar with all of this? Forgive and please correct me if I left out any titles or included any erroneous information. Generally though, the perception that Nintendo abandoned the GBA right away seems to be a myth.

Edif: I think that's all of them now.

I wouldn't be surprised if we didn't get some more 3DS titles towards the end of its life.

Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King (outside Japan) and Pokemon Z could very well release after the first NX configuration for example. Nintendo does not drop its handheld hardware's software support immediately, and Zelda is still coming to Wii U, probably around the same time as those two titles. The more time goes by without Pikmin 4 makes me wonder if it won't get a Wii U version though. No word on #FE yet could mean it's late in the year too overseas.
