Visual Novels Community Thread | A Little Something for Everyone

To be fair visual novels like Atlach=Nacha (were you play as a lesbian spider demon that eats little girls, and rapes them), Europhoria, which is basically a rape, scat, and every weird as hell fetish wrapped up in one, and Rance, which is basically Shogun 2, if it were a visual novel, with the most unlikable, perverted, and ruthless protagainst in existence dont help matters.

People's minds are deadset that Eroge, and H-games are all simply porn games.

Yeh, I'm not saying that, I was simply commenting on the usage of the word creepy.

I'm personally of the opinion that many VNs would be 100% fine or even better off without the sex scenes. I have yet to see a single one that added anything to the story.

e: also I too really wanted to give Euphoria a try due to the story reactions, but yeah, that one's just too fucking weird.

I'll be straightforward with you here, the main reason I like H scenes isn't for the story. :p I understand it's not for everyone tho.

I'm... felling a lot of different emotions about the new カラカラ.

Glad that 100k I first saw for the $ was a typo or a glitch or something, but I'm still not really sure where this 30k is going, unless the script is actually a decent size since this is getting made no matter what.

In case you hadn't noticed the project is "flexible funding" which means they get the money no matter what (and are still obligated to fulfill rewards [I think?]) so I'm not really sure what the point of this is.

I mean, if the JP DVD version is going on sale for 1900円, I don't see any reason why I shouldn't just wait and get that with the extras they sell it with for much cheaper than backing? I feel like I'm being sold a glorified pre-order with the words most expensive translation tax on it and I would love it if someone could enlighten me on why I'm wrong.

I love p19's art and Kiosan is a good writer (Aokana was a massive improvement over Grisaia) but I'm really not sold even though I want to be.

Well, yeah, if you can read Japanese, it would make more sense to just wait.

You can actually skip most of the H-scenes and the story will still hold up (though its really not written well imo).

But yeah. In most VNs, besides Nukige, the H-scenes dont make much sense. The one where it made sense (If my heart had wings), they cut it...

Hah, yeah, I know why people like them, and I'm absolutely not saying people shouldn't like them. I just think it's incredibly unnecessary to have hentai stuff in VNs that have stories that clearly want to be taken seriously (like Muv-luv and G-senjou Maou something whatever, you know the one)

Like.. Why is it there? There are countless visual novels that are meant to be simply fap material for people who like some characterization along with their porn, aren't they enough? Do these things not sell if there's no nudity, or what?

Yeah, and skip them is what I tend to do. It's just annoying to really get into the story and dialogue, and suddenly wham, "here's another fucking sex scene for you, you horny little fucker, isn't this why you're playing?"

e: wait, unless you were talking about Euphoria specifically?

Pretty much. Japanese fans will make a hissy fit if they try it.

Man, that's a bummer.

Well.. I'm happy as long as ZE3 won't have unnecessary fucking in it lol

Ever17 actually has an implied sex scene. :p

But, yeah, you can't get away from it unless you're Key or Type-Moon, both of which successfully moved away from eroge. And I guess, Nitroplis to a lesser extent, since they do have a handful of non eroge.

It really depends on how the scene is potrayed in context.

I love Atlach Nacha. But the eroge scenes dont weird me out, because there not there for fetish reasons. There portrayed as inhuman acts of depravity, and disgust. Hatsune is a disgusting villain protagonist, who, after sex, usually devours her victim in graphic detail. No sexualised manner. She just devours them like a wolf.

In contrast, Euphoria, seems to cater to...ehem, odd fetishes.

That wasn't unnecessary though, wasn't it super important to the plot? It's been years since I last played Ever17. So long, in fact, that I should maybe replay it soon.

And just to be clear, I'm definitely no prude, I'm fine with sex in media. People have sex. Sex is fun. But there are better ways of depicting sex than straight-up AO porn.

Eh, creepy is a word that's lost all meaning, anyway. It's been overused in the last months/years to the point that pretty much anything you do is apparently creepy.

The face-poking minigame is weird tho, I'll give them that. Creepy, though? Fuck off

I think people just feel unconfortable around anime-looking characters in general, especially since they appear young, since that is the popular art style lately. Maybe because they don't want to be labelled as something negative or just I dunno. Mentioning K-On earlier, I don't get why people find that creepy. It's not even supposed to be ecchi or anything. I think people's minds just go into the wrong places. And the whole "if you don't like it, avoid it". But of course, many people pop into topics and talk about how creeped out they are, when they are free to avoid the subject.

At least on here there's nothing like that. I'm not into H or anything, but there's still plenty of titles I can enjoy and play, but I'm not going to say how "creepy" they are, and people that want to enjoy them (or stuff like Euphoria :p) can go ahead. I'm not judging since they are only games.

Absolutely. I'd even go as far as saying that caring so much about other people's interests is CREEPY

YEAH, FUCKBOIS

CREEEEEPY

You can get away from it also if you publish on console, because you can't do sex scenes there. Chunsoft's sound novels don't (as far as I'm aware) have sex scenes.

What's going on with the Sakura games? First was Sekai Project, then Mangagamer, then self-publishing, now back to Sekai Project?

Maybe Sakura Dungeon was part of the contract?

Contracts that disclose a certain number of games, that could be the case. It's still weird, seeing a franchise jump from different hands in a short amount of time.

Also, I hope Sekai Project proofreads the visual novels they'll release for the Vita. Almost at the end of WEE1 and I found a rather significant amount of typos for such a short visual novel.

That's a shame. I think it's probably easier to fix on the Steam version, unfortunately.

Apparently they also snagged the license for Hoshimemo.

Wait, are they using Insem's Japanese->Chinese->English translation in an official release?

That's been the case for pretty much everything they've released other than Grisaia. Even beyond the quality of their translations they don't put much editing work in. Even basic copy edit stuff slips through the cracks.

It is, that's why I'm hoping they do it before they port the game to the Vita, instead of trying to fix things after the port is done.
They have been claiming that the Vita release will come after their new translation team has fixed the scripts for the first two games.

Getting Hoshimemo at this point is so odd. At least I hope they retranslate it and release the Fandisk too (lol)

Holy craaaaaaaap...

Even in my worst estimates I wouldn't have expected such a far away date. Then again, most projects don't disclose the release dates until there's a month to go or so.

Yeah it's far, but I understand that he can't devote his entire life to it. :p At least having a date is nice.

It is. Either they are reusing a spotty translation and doing it on the cheap or they are spending to relocalize a game that everyone has already played. Neither really makes much sense to me.

I doubt they'll even meet that arbitrary date. I'm pretty much considering that project dead now.

Or the developers reached out to SP because they wanted an official release. Doesn't mean much, still

That's... That's certainly a valid way to see it. Jeez, talk about a letdown.

I might seriously go with the "learn Japanese finally, you lazy bum" route, especially seeing how a few weeks ago I won a JP 3DS which includes some games that are unplayable without Japanese knowledge (PLvsAA and M&L4)

Just got an email from SP about three new projects.

First is Sakura Dungeon (not really new).

Apparently they also snagged the license for Hoshimemo.

And of course, the third is Karakara, which we already know about.

Wait... Sakura Dungeon? Didn't Winged Cloud cut ties with SP?

Yeah, MG had taken the Sakura games, and Sakura Dungeons was one of the 2 announced at the time of the switch along with Sakura Christams or whatever the name of that other one was... this is weird. Why would Sekai announce it.

That scene was necessary , otherwise
another character can't exist , meaning no body , meaning no looping timelines

Yeah, I vaguely remembered it being something like this.

I'd love to replay it soon. Any way of doing that on an Android tablet?

There is an Android version, but it's only in Japanese. :p And you wouldn't be able to access it unless you get onto the JP Google Play Store.

Edit: I have a question for people who've played Gahkthun. It's a technical question. Have any of you found that after playing for certain amount of time the game slows to a crawl, and you need to restart the game to fix it? Because I've run into that issue. It's not a problem of memory, because I played it both on my laptop and my brand new PC, and had the issue on both.

So I finished Kindred Spirits, or I thought I did. But after you clear the game it turns out there's post-game content of sorts:
Something like 15+ additional scenes are unlocked with more being steadily unlocked as you read through those, some of which are just fun extra scenes while others fill in small holes in the plot like why Ano keeps conveniently helping Yuna or how the ghosts noticed some of the girls. I've been told by another person playing on twitter that they're counting a total of 70+ scenes so far and haven't finished going through them yet. There's even some unique character sprites (like a creepy one for Sachi) that only show up in these scenes. I haven't seen any additional CGs or voice acting yet, but I've only gone through about eight or nine of the extra scenes so far.

So it's a 25-30 hour long game with at least a few additional hours of content after you clear it.

I wonder if anyone will mod or update Kindred Spirits to display characters' names as first name, last name. Keeping the JP style of naming in a localization really irks me. Or just put their first name.

Really? I can't stand it when the voices say it one way but the text reads differently. I prefer they keep it in Japanese order.

For people playing Kindred Spirits: Make sure to check out the music player (earphone graphic in the planner) after clearing the main game. Because
Youka's song from the festival is there with vocals and translated lyrics
.

I'm currently playing Kindred Spirits and it's so adorable. I really like how the characters feel genuine and sincere, even if they're rather tropey. But so far the whole cast seems very likable.

Hina's Thumb Up artwork is the best.

It's just a thing I've accepted with a good localization. The average western reader is going to think that's their first name shown first and get understandably confused, especially since the name shown last is what they'll be called most of the time.

So I finally cleared Kindred Spirits.

Immediate thoughts: This game is amazing. My expectations were already high from chatting about the game with people involved with the localization and playing the demo, and I was still blown away with the level of quality in the writing and presentation. The amount of content is staggering for a yuri title solely focused on relationships, I was expecting a game around 12-15 hours in length and got a 25-30 hour game instead. I see people on Steam complaining about the 30 dollar price tag, but IMO 30 dollars is cheap for a game of this length and quality. I'd have gladly paid 40-50 dollars. Unless SubaHibi comes out this year I can't see any fresh visual novels on the horizon that have a chance at topping Kindred Spirits in 2016.

The game is practically its own fandisc with the extra scenes and I'm still thirsting for more. Hopefully when Mangagamer releases their inevitable physical release version of this game (I can't see this not being popular enough to justify it) they'll be able to include the four drama CDs as bonuses, or find some other way to sell them.

Gahkthun question.
I'm on chapter six, and correct me if I'm wrong, does this game actually have tentacle rape? If it's a spoiler to actually say then don't answer.
