So is anyone actually looking forward to Umbrella Corps? I was kind of excited because it looked like they might be adding in all these famous Resident Evil locations to play around in.

But when I saw that latest video in the Tricell Offices...... it just looked fucking boring. The shooting looked so flat. There was a Cerberus but it looked lost and bored too. Just nothing.

The game looks mediocre but the story is very good so far and will address many unresolved areas of the series. Like what happened to TRICELL, what happened once Leon/Chris left the Plaga-infested villages, etc.

It also finally, finally, finally broaches the subject of Umbrella's rival companies which have been completely in the dark since CODE:Veronica. There will apparently be audio tapes left behind by Albert Wesker too. Whether or not we'll see the company he joined is another story, but hopefully.

We've had Sheva, Josh Stone, Keith Lumley, Mark Wilkins, Jim Chapman, and Lawrence Kimbala in terms of playable black characters. Really only Sheva has been a main character. Josh got some DLC in RE5, Mark and Jim were in Outbreak so it was your choice or not to play as them, and keith in Rev1 just had a few moments. Lawrence was much like the outbreak characters, you could go the whole game never playing him.
Keith isn't black:

Did you look at the image I posted? He's white. Or perhaps hispanic. But he's not dark-skinned. Look at his shoulder. Look anywhere his skin is lit up.
Black people come in different skin tones.

My brother, who is black sitting beside me right now. Is black and light. And im brown and not the darkest dude in the world.

Black people don't come in one form.

I know that, but in that shirtless pic he's straight-up caucasian. Light as can be.

I'd love for him to be black and add much-needed variety, but there's nothing resembling it in that render.

The hair, maybe? But there are white people with hair like that.

Perhaps the idea is he's a mix of ethnicities.

My brother is his complexion and his parents are brown. I was that complexion and darkened a bit when i got older.

Black people look different, is my brother not black because he doesn't fall under you limited pre conceived view of blackness? Hes black, black people look different. And being of mixed enthnicty doesnt make you not black. Odds are a of folks of african decent residing in the americas are mixed.

So the hell are you talking about.

So, I see most people still hate on RE0.

I just want to firmly plant myself in the small camp of people that really like the game, it's a great classic RE, not as great as REmake, but assuredly not the worst in the series and it was one of the last classic styled RE games released.

I honestly can't wait for REmake 2 and I hope that Remake 3 follows suit and that they are both great.

I don't. I enjoyed Zero more than REmake.

And there are white people who have darker skin, different facial features, etc.

I'm saying there's nothing that makes Keith "obviously" black to me. Like you say, black people come in all different appearances. So do white people. How is Keith "obviously" black? How is the below "obviously" black and not, say, any other ethnicity?

It's an honest question. I'm not emotionally invested in this. I love the character either way. And I have a variety of black friends in different skin tones. Just as I have white friends in different skin tones. But I honestly can't tell what Keith is, and I always thought he was white.

This character looks terrible. Looks like a Yakuza reject that Kiryu killed.

Have you looked his non alt character portrait?
Yeah, I've seen all of them, but his ninja costume is the only one where you can see any decent amount of skin. He's half-naked there.

Whatever he is, he's awesome to me. Race doesn't affect whether I like a character.

Oh c'mon. That's just picture with very bright light. Here's the in-game model with default lighting:
Wouldn't bright lighting be the best way to see what something is?

The point remains: I don't see any obvious ethnic features. Like Village said, there isn't one black look. Likewise, there isn't one white look.

So what makes it obvious what he is here?

But why tho.

I actually like 0, but I'm curious what you guys like better about than REmake, which in my eyes is about as perfect a piece of clockwork classic RE design can be.

I really like the two player mechanic and the pace of it. Might just be because it does something new compared to the rest of the games in that style.

This doesn't clarify Keith's race, but I'm looking at the official complete works, and there are some interesting notes:

- His character design was inspired by a reference photo of a tattoo artist
- Quote: "Keith needed to be a person who was in a group of mysterious, exotic men who are lanky and gnarled'"
- An example of the above is another Capcom character, El Gado from Final Fight

And about Ninja Keith in particular:

- The tiger stripes on Ninja Keith's shoes match the tiger tattoo on his back
- The conch shell tied to his waist is the ocean element

I always thought Keith looked like Travie McCoy from Gym Class Heroes, so in my mind the two had similar ethnicities (turns out he's a mix of Haitian, Irish, and Native American, but I always thought McCoy was black).

Wow, that's quite uncanny. And yeah, a mix of white, black and brown describes Keith's look pretty well.

(Again, with the disclaimer that each race comes in a wide variety of looks that can overlap, obviously)

For anyone who hasn't seen them yet, here are the two drama albums that explore alternative histories for Sherry and Ada after BIO2.

BIOHAZARD 2 DRAMA ALBUM The Little Runaway Sherry
BIOHAZARD 2 DRAMA ALBUM The Female Spy Ada Lives

Wouldn't mind seeing as CG shorts.

I'm also nearly finished translating The Wicked North Sea novel, which is quite a good story for the series, and the first to introduce many plot threads.

These are fun; I've added the links to the OP

Oh, I see we were discussing creature design earlier in this thread!

Having just replayed RER1 (third playthrough, this time on PS3), several designs stand out in my mind:

- The Malacoda parasites in the whale carcass: Whether you're fighting it on the shipdeck or with a turret/grenade launcher/rocket launcher in the chopper, it's a sight to behold. Key visuals: The whale carcass propped up at one end of the capsized cruiser, and the sinewy worms slithering out between folds of flesh, coming at you with fang-filled mouths and clicking pincers.

- Scarmiglione: One of the coolest BOWs ever. Its silhouette evokes the hooded head of a knights templar, while its one arm resembles a lance and the other a shield. Great texture reminiscent of sharkskin, eerie eyeless face, and a great gimmick where it transforms in different ways depending on whether you destroy its upper torso or lower torso, the BOW alternating between blocking one or the other.

latest

- Sea Creepers: Oddly beautiful design, with the skull-like mouth, and a visage concealed by the swept-back "hair" reminiscent of a horseshoe crab's shell. I like how its ribcage is a working mouth. The idea of a creature that seizes you with its six limbs and tries to drown you is terrifying. I also find their siren-like cry to be very unsettling.

latest

- Wall Blisters: A new addition in the Unveiled Edition. These things are awesome. Apparently formed from virus-enhanced barnacles, according to in-game lore. They grow in cocoon-like sacs on the walls and ceilings — a great bit of foreshadowing — and emerge at the most inopportune moments. They go down quick, but you better not be caught reloading in close-quarters, or they'll close the gap in mere seconds and OHKO (in brutal fashion, I might add — grasping the player with two snake-like limbs, and snapping their spine). Thankfully, they announce themselves with a bloodcurdling howl. They also explode afterwards (although it appears harmless).

latest

Once I unlock everything I want in Raid (which has been thoroughly remixed for the Unveiled Edition — nice!), I'm thinking about revisiting Revelations 2. I guess I'll talk about one of my favorite creatures there:

The Revenant: Probably the scariest BOW in modern-day RE. The Revenants are erratic-moving contortionists, with double-joined arms and legs, and hidden weakpoints. They move in a variety of ways, even walking on all fours like something out of The Exorcist. They're brilliant body horror, with multiple faces and limbs held together by nails. Their introduction in the cabin is a classic moment, and they continue to inspire dread throughout the entire campaign. I love their shambling approach in this cutscene.

And check out the human eyes!

^^^ that's a real cool design that brings me back to the more horror type monsters of RE1-3. Almost reminds me of a Goro Tyrant lol.I should get into REV2. REV1 really soured me and made me retroactively like RE5.

The 0 HD remaster looks dope but I don't think I'll bite on that for a while since 0 was my least fave in the entire series. So much wasted potential there in what could have really been an amazing game.

Oh c'mon. That's just a picture with a very bright light. Here's the in-game model with default lighting:

Whatever race this dude may be (he looks Dominican or something to me), the body language and hat in this pic say one thing very clearly...CRACKHEAD. I hope that's what they were going for?

Capcom spending money on getting a Restaurant to make a Resident Evil Burrito (with Dead Rising Music). There's gotta be an announcement on a new game soon.

Only way I could accept Zombie Dinosaurs. :p

I even brought that idea up before on GAF. Soft Reboot Dino Crisis and it's character's in the RE universe. Not like some Dino Clones and Dino Zombies would be that much of a stretch for the series.

In the light of the ND/Uncharted and AC drama, I can't believe Neiteo stole my post and made it into a thread.

I could cartwheel kick him right now, seriously. Let's go! 1vs1 on RE5&6 versus/survivors!
