Uncharted 4 Story Trailer

Again what is wrong with the people defending this? Don't bring up past garbage. Ubisofts statement was stupid... ND I'd stupid to steal and that's the topic at hand. Stop trying to defer.

Lordy bro your getting so worked up about this. I have had actual art of mine stolen and I wasn't this upset. It was likely a mistake, it will be dealt with. Nobody probably meant to use it.

Also, keep in mind that this artwork is Ubisoft's property. Doesn't matter who's the actual artist who drew it and where he is now.

Even if the guy was working on UC4 now (which we know isn't the case) he still wouldn't have the rights to use it in another game.

I don't think the Ubisoft statements are being used to defend ND....

Someone with gif skills should make the chain happen.

All those "nuances" happen individually, one after the other, as if the game's imploring for you to look at them. Lara looks like a robot as a result.

I am really not seeing it looking any more robotic than anything here. If there is some problem with the performance, it is probably the actress's fault, not the animations.

I never take vacation days for video games. With this, I'm making an exception.

I love that one of the villains looks like Scott Caan.

Well I caved and watched Gamersyde trailer and Mother of God!

Always bloody amazing what ND can do on PS hardware extracting everything out of it like blood from a stone.

The trailer was too goddam good, hype is at maximum!!

I just cancelled my preorder. What kind of bullshit is that? stealing art? the rest of the game was probably made by buying assets from Turbosquid at this point. You really can't trust thiefs.

Smh. "You know Naughty Dog, we really are thiefs"

I would sincerely consider giving ROTR or QB's previews a watch, especially considering that they started out with keyframing, and are using a more traditional performance capture setup compared to CD or Remedy who're both using incredibly high quality capture methods, CD especially, they used MOVA. In-game character animation is ND's specialty, not specifically facial.

There are so many nuances in that webm that it kinda disapproved your point. ._.

What's the point using MOVA if facials in ROTR and QB are CLEARLY not better than in U4.

Hahaha. Thanks for that.

Jesus, this thread turned into a shitshow.

STEALING! HOW DARE THEY!

This stuff happens all the time outside of gaming. Relax, folks. They'll work out a deal or pay a fine, and the art obviously won't be in the final version.

It's wrong and I'm sure the image will change with the final release but you're going to holds barred like it's your work. Settle the fuck down.

Look I'm just tired of the blatant fanboyism playing double standards. A person art was stolen. Was it on purpose? Who knows, but the excuses are embarrassing.

Who cares?
Ubisoft sucks anyways
Probably an homage

Give me a break. ND deserves all the praise they get. That trailer blew my mind and I was enjoying reading the upgrade/downgrade nonsense due to the stupidity of the topic. That being said this is a very real issue and they deserve some serious question marks right now for it, let's stop skirting the issue, it's clearly very questionable and its now been confirmed by the artist himself he didn't give permission.

You know it would be the job of any basic artist to not fuck up in the first place by straight up stealing art, especially from another concurrent company in the same field. ESPECIALLY when it comes to making a commercial trailer close to the release of the game.

It's poor show

Or, and I edited this after you quoted me, but it could be placeholder for another piece of art that they decided to take out for the trailer because A) its a spoiler (like lets say its a picture of Elena & Drake holding their first-born) or B) the concept art render or whatever it may end up being isn't done yet, but they needed to get it out anyway.

One thing is for certain - that picture will not end up in the final product, regardless. So theres that.

Chromatic aberration. Its a defect caused by shitty camera lenses on pictures taht for some reason game developers are copying. This is an example I always give. Life Is Strange. You cannot turn it off in game settings, but you can force it off with a config file, and the game just looks so much better

One of the more extreme examples, the other would be bloodborne. A lot of games try to use a little CA because it gives an illusion of anti aliasing, but in reality is just blurs and distorts the image and looks like shit

man normally im not THAT much of a stickler about CA in games. i almost always think its unnecessary and kind of silly to put in there, but it doesn't bother me much

but in life is strange holy shit. drove me nuts the entire game
even if i could kind of see why theyd use it, with all the photography stuff in the game. but man...they could have dialed it back a LOT, if that was the reason for using it

wtf is this? ubisoft doesnt suck, even if they did, stealing images is wrong

Could just be placeholder art that they forgot was placeholder, I suspect that was the situation with the map in TLoU. They really need to be more careful though, it's probably a good thing it was noticed now instead of the retail release because I'm sure Ubi would have wanted compensation.

Alex Hutchinson is taking shots?

Designing your own game is twice the work, so why not just copy Far Cry 3. Oh wait.

This is exactly what I'm talking about. Ubisoft deserves or is at the very least up for debate for criticism, however this shouldn't be the thread its happening in.

Just because you find it okay doesn't mean it's okay ?

I don't think its okay even remotely. But it will be handled and it wasn't purposefully done. Its extremely easy for something like that to happen. At the VFX studio I work at we use a combination of hand drawn sketches and random images on the web to put together quick story boards. They aren't meant to be used in a commercial sense but it helps to just quickly determine the look and feel of a scene. The artist probably had lots of that stuff mixed in with his own concept work and when they wanted some shots for a scene sent them his catalog and forgot he just nabbed that one.

Regardless it will be dealt with.

Some people are trying to make the artwork stuff like something terrible when almost no one cares, UC4 need to be rip off by some people though, console war and everything...

Naughty Dog Should have known what would happen by showing it, if they have to pay or remove it because they weren't allowed to used it, then pay and remove it, it's just one pic...

LoL at people trying to justify ND supposedly wrong action by putting Ubisoft down! Shame on you people!

Pretty nice trailer overall though!

If they did this intentionally it is terrible.

Yeah, this.

In the grown-up world, this will be solved quickly, professionally and amicably.

In the world of gaming discussion forums, this is a gross criminal act.

That is now my equal favorite trailer alongside the Mass Effect 2 launch trailer (the Two Steps from Hell one).

Amazing ND... the true masters: and it's not even spoilery, I have no idea what's going on, it's just amazing to watch and hype inducing to the max.

Rise of the Tomb Raider has better facial animations? Are we looking at the same games? Oof...

It's a lovely game, but come on. Quantum Break I can entertain, but ROTTR? Nah, fam.

The reactions and conclusion jumping here are hilarious. People are imaging this scenario:

Artist: Neil, what about the painting that Drake needs to stare into?

Nl: Steal It from somewhere,

Artist: But we have a whole team of environment artists who are not working on anything critical right now as we're just in pre-production of Last of us 2. They could whip something up in an hour....

Neil: We just can't afford to create any custom art for this game. Steal it from somewhere.

Artist: We actually have a TON of environment art we've created over our past 20 years of game development. We could just drop any of them in...

Neil: STEAL. IT.
