As long as it works for B/W that's enough, but if series XY is indeed better as people suggest then i'd at least give it a chance before resorting to that list.

The problem with the BW anime really isn't the filler, though (At least before you get to the Decoro Islands arc that they used to pad out the ending a bunch). A good deal of the main plot is just bad. The Unova League in particular is probably the least satisfying ending tournament in the entire series.

Man, how are people even talking about X/Y the games bein' bad. Those games owned and were the first Pokemon games in fifteen fucking years I actually liked enough to bother completing. The music was great, the areas were cool, the cast was likable (and much better written-in-translation than previous gens - B/W in particular was just crippled by awkward translation). The difficulty curve felt a little too low and yeah, the single-player postgame felt a little simple, but I sorta feel like they wanted a bigger emphasis on the multiplayer, which felt good this gen (hacks aside).

Gen VI has, from my seat, been a roaring success and that's part of the reason I'm a little weirded out over the possibility of just jumping to Gen VII. There's so much unfinished Kalos business! Surely we ain't out!

My Gen Ranking

2nd gen did stuff they don't do anymore and can't replicate properly given how much hype the series had from Gen 1 to 2.

I don't know. I liked Gen VI, but the villains and friends were kind of awful imo. At least Looker was still cool though

Gen Ranking? Here's mine from best to worst (although I like them all).

II: This was as perfect a sequel to Gen 1 that you could get. It threw constant surprises at you. Oh you beat the Pokemon League? You're only halfway done. Oh you got all the Kanto Badges? Well go to the top of Mt. Silver and watch as the best thing in the entire Pokemon franchise unfolds before your eyes. I don't think a single game in the series since has ever had a moment of discovery as magical as that.

V: As tired as many people are over classic, charming and fun things getting a "gritty reboot" nowadays, Gen V was probably the best way Pokemon could ever have gone down that route. With a region consisting of entirely new Pokemon without any old ones for the entire main storyline of Black and White and a somewhat more serious story that shed a new light on Pokemon while still keeping true to the spirit of the series, Gen V was an excellent iteration of Pokemon.

IV: A lot of people disagree with me on this, but this Gen actually has some of my favourite Pokemon designs in the franchise. Torterra, Staraptor, Rotom, Gliscor, Rampardos, the list goes on. This was also the first gen where I really began to get invested in the storylines of these games, and really started to look forward to the big Legendary Pokemon confrontation moment that ended up becoming a series staple.

I: Mostly here for nostalgia. As broken as Gen I is, it's impossible to hate. It started it all. It's definitely notable for the magical moment where you discover that your Rival became the champion and that he's the final boss. I can't say much more about this gen that others haven't already said so I'll just tell you to go listen to old tunes like these and remember the magic.

III: This gen honestly has some of the best music in the franchise to me. Unfortunately, it's pretty low on this list because it felt like a huge step down from Gen II. In terms of story content anyway. I give it a lot of credit for taking a huge step forward in evolving things mechanically. This was the beginning of Natures, Abilities, Hold Items (or could you do that in Gen II?), etc. All of which would become essential in the competitive scene. On the other hand, there was a large lack of post-game content. The Battle Frontier is nice, but it certainly doesn't top going to Kanto!

VI: I don't hate Gen VI. I don't. Really. I like all the Pokemon gens. However Gen VI is at the bottom of this list because, well, it feels severely lacking. I hope Sun and Moon offers a way more expansive regional Pokedex in terms of new Pokemon. Some things about Gen VI honestly felt kind of lazy to me. I mean, no Legendary Trio?!? That's practically rule-breaking Game Freak! Yeah, there was a lot of good expansions to competitive battling and multiplayer like Super Training and the Friend Safari, and while I genuinely love Mega Evolutions, they only go so far. Gen VI just needed a bit more of an..."oomph" to it, if you know what I mean.

Exactly how I'd rank the games. I go back and forth on Gen 2 and 5 though

On another topic... I miss Genius Sonority games for their soundtracks alone. Man they had some good tunes.

EDIT: Love PokeGAF hype. I'm surprised Electivirus, Firestorm, and Izayoi havent shown up.

Yeah, moving on to X&Y series seems wise at this point, the League is always something to look forward to, so the fact it disappoints just cements the decision.

Animation aside, which with XY is really great, I'd be curious how the people who praise the XY anime compare it to the other series. Everything going back to the original "sacred" Indigo League episodes is just really shallow, and while fine to just have on TV, never really have much character depth or go into what makes the Pokemon world so interesting.

Unless I've lost my mind, the same composer also does Pokemon Shuffle and stuff. Which has some really nice music.

I personally prefer XY to my memories of the indigo league. It does a great job showcasing off a ton of pokemon. I do have some issues (Team rocket is more often annoying than not, though thankfully they don't appear every episode anymore, and some episodes even have a villain of the week which is always way more entertaining). I mean, it's nothing too special, and it is a kid's show at the end of the day, but I find it pretty enjoyable regardless and the new supporting cast are all pretty endearing

EDIT: Love PokeGAF hype.

They did recently do Pokemon Battle Trozei, which has a similar level of music quality to the Game Cube RPGs.

They also did Pokemon Shuffle, but most of the good music in that can only be heard on the map, and I can't recommend that game to anyone in good conscience for other reasons.

Boss Doggie

all my loli wolf companions are so moe
If that's who Ash travels with it's a major upgrade from that kid he meets in B/W.

But it seems X&Y is worth checking out and i'm hyped for Pokemon again so it'll fill the time until Sun and Moon.

Massive upgrade. People might be put off that she isn't into battles though, but she does fight, and she takes a while before she finds purpose in traveling. Also Bonnie (the yellow-haired kid, Clemont's little sister) is the best girl bar none.

Definitely worth the watch for animation, the gang being cohesive, and the Pokemon having more interaction with each other.

Also, Ash not being a dumbass and Serena having to find her goal were really great stuff.

Gen Ranking? Here's mine from best to worst (although I like them all).

Wow, your's is almost opposite from mine. My gen rankings from best to worst would be:

1. Gen VI - Kalos (X/Y) - I love the huge amounts of pokemon that are available, the jump to 3D, the introduction of Mega Evolutions, Fairy types, easier breeding, Talonflame, Xerneas, Greninja, Aegislash, and everything else this gen did. It added a lot of features that have since then become really important in Pokemon to me, and a lot of mons whom I already consider to be some of my favourites. I hope we get a Z game later on, perhaps midway through this new gen (if it is a new gen).

2. Gen V - Unova (Black/White) - this game holds the honour of being the only Pokemon game with a story that interested me. N remains the most memorable Pokemon character to me. I also really liked the concept of only having new Pokemon until after the Elite 4. It made every new Pokemon feel a lot more important than thy normally would.

3. Gen I - Kanto (Red/Blue) - My first game. Back then, I never really used to play games much (the only reason I picked this up was due to the anime), so I found this very challenging - I think I restarted about 5-6 times because I kept getting stuck. The feeling of beating Gary (or whatever he's called in-game) was amazing. This gen had some fantastic designs, great locations, and I especially loved how after each badge, you could go further along the Victory Road.

4. Gen III - Hoenn (Ruby/Saphire) - Emerald is probably still my favourite Pokemon game. I loved the Pokemon Dome in the Battle Frontier, and, with ORAS, the ability to soar is amazing.

5. Gen IV - Sinnoh (Diamond/Pearl) - This is the game I purchased a DS for, and I wasn't disappointed! Probably the generation I spent the most time on (I think I spent 250 hours on Diamond alone).

6. Gen II - Johto (Gold/Silver) - Played Crystal back in the day and didn't like it. Tried playing HG/SS, and couldn't finish them. This is the only Pokemon gen that bores me. The level scaling and pacing is just horrible, and it seemed to me that, in order to fit, they sacrificed a lot of depth.

Pokemon Shuffle is the one game that I shouldn't like and support and yet I can't stop playing for some reason. Once you're in deep, it's hard to get out because I gotta catch 'em all.

My gen rankings

6>4>5>2>3>1

6 being that high is temporary and basically assuming there is a "third," version and it delivers. 4, 5, and 6 are all games I love but each one has some kind of significant issue with it (4's gameplay is the most dated, 5's region and new Pokemon suck, B/W2 kind of fixed this but the story isn't as good and its post-game doesn't match up to Platinum's plus I don't like the sequel version instead of a third version, and gen 6 just feels kinda rushed).

1, 2, and 3 are all kinda weird to go back to, but I like all three regions a lot and have a ton of nostalgia for them.

Also this isn't including the remakes. If it was HG/SS would be in between 4 and 5 (tbh the more I think about it the more I think it might be my favorite overall tho) and FR/LG and ORAS would be at the bottom. HG/SS is a fantastic remake of gen 2 despite not fixing any of gen 2's issues, I still enjoyed it oodles. FR/LG is Kanto without any of the nostalgia or charm and now with shitty music. ORAS feels more like X/Y with a Hoenn skin than an actual faithful remake if that makes any sense.

we're doing gen rank again?
5 > 3 > 2 > 1 > 4 > 6
1, 2 & 4 probably interchangeable
gen 6 may improve its position if s&m is indeed gen 6 and improves a lot from the 'disappointing' xy

Tyrantrum episode was great. One of the more memorable pokemon "filler" eps for me, and not just because I love Tyrantrum (though that does play a part)

The X and Y anime is pretty nice actually, good animation for a such a longtime series too. And the character arcs and interactions are solid. There's some usual annoying stuff, but XY focused down on the characters rather neatly.

God was I disappointed by Best Wishes, how do you waste N as a character, he's literally the best character in the franchise.

I haven't watched much of XY yet, but so far it seems to compare favorably with Sinnoh, my current favorite.

The original series was okay, but it didn't really have that much going on in terms of overarching story.

Pokemon Shuffle is the one game that I shouldn't like and support and yet I can't stop playing for some reason. Once you're in deep, it's hard to get out because I gotta catch 'em all.

I was like you at one point. I was out basically the second that I missed a Mega Stone. By that point, the main stages had gotten so terrible that I was already questioning why I was still playing.

Well, okay. No gen 7, then :/

But if it's entirely new region and story, I'd be cool with that. I just don't want to play an extended version of X and Y like all of the other third games were extended versions of the exact same thing.

While I expect we'll revisit Kalos in addition to South Kalos, I don't think we'll ever go back to a pure extended game like the old 3rd edition are. B2/W2 are likely the new norm.

But GameFreak can change everything on a dime, so who knows.

I just hope Go Ichinose and Hitomi Sato are back full time. The work they did in B2W2 is amazing, nevermind every generation before that. Like one new Sato song in ORAS, nothing from Ichinose, and Ichinose didn't even work on XY at all.

Black 2 and White 2 had a pretty good mix of new content and reworked old content. I'd expect something more like that.

I don't know why people dislike gen VI.. It is my favourite. While it surely lacked some content, it introduced so many things that i like. Costumizable character and mega evos. Overall, it had the best Pokémon design since a long long time. We had 3D Pokémon for the first time ever on a handheld (in terms of graphic), and 3D (as in 3D) for the first time ever overall. It completely changed the meta with fairy type and new items.
I even liked the story of it. I had tears in my eyes in the end scene with az and floette, which never happened to me in Pokémon before. This things alone were enough change that it flattens the mistakes it had. I didn't like gen V, it wasn't nearly as special to me as others are making it. The design of most Pokémon didn't satisfy me at all. I liked the story too, but it felt quite boring with those Pokémon. I really dig how they handled all Pokémon in XY instead of making them unavailable until after endgame.
And i still would like a new gen. I welcome everything, if it's gen 6.5 or 7.

For me, seeing new pokemon come to life is what's most enjoyable.

That and the pokemon league tournaments, there've been some really memorable and intense moments.

Didn't gamefreak or Junichi Masuda express interest last year in making a pokemon game that is unlike anything we have ever seen before? Maybe these two new games will have different mechanics that will make pokemon different. I don't know where I remember reading it but it was definitely something he said.

As someone that thinks X/Y were disappointing follow-ups to B2/W2 I disagree with you on pretty much everything except the trainer customization. I especially dislike mega evolution.
