Titanfall 2 announcing really soon? [Up: Appears on multiple sites for PC/XB1/PS4]

They really needed to put a subtitle i thought

"Titanfall - Age of Steel" or something like that

Halo had one and that was the first game...

It just feels like us PS4 owners are only getting part of a franchise, when it wasn't even originally supposed to be that way.

If your going to put in an actual single player campaign, atleast make it like a 'soft reboot'

Remember Mass Effect? That was a much bigger deal story wise and they still released 2 on the PS3 after a year of console exclusivity with only a motion comic to catch you up and without releasing the first one until a couple years after the fact.

Er, SF5 was never going to be for XB1 for as long as Capcom signed off on it, aka when Sony started funding it.

And i was referring to story wise for the titanfall franchise, but some other poster beat me to it more clearly.

If titanfall "2" is not going to be some direct continuation of whatever happened in the first titanfall, they just distance it from that for the new audience

they should take the campaign levels from one and use em as a tutorial or somthin

So you are saying fable 3 on pc shouldn't have been called fable 3 since we couldn't play fable 2?

I think it'll definitely have a traditional campaign but the levels will be a lot more open than your usual FPS campaign. Wouldn't surprise me if they create the SP with multiplayer in mind so that the maps can be used on both, Kowloon from CoD ended up a multiplayer map and it was pretty good.

The first game already had a horde mode which was pretty good but I don't think it's enough to replace a SP experience.

I never played the first one, however from some of the footage I've seen. I'd imagine they will go one of 2 ways. Either full Mirrors Edge/portal/Metroid Prime. As a linear puzzle platformer with minimal shooting that teaches you the game mechanics. Or they will create giant battle arenas that feel like they could be full open worlds in their own right like the cities in Assasins Creed 2 and 4 except larger, and it will be a gears of war style arena shooter.

Single player Kowloon was different from the multiplayer map, I believe.

I wonder if this was announced during the Xbox event.

I see it. The only major US site that reported on the picture and the retail listings was Gamespot which these days is 5 people in a closet and might not have gone.

So IGN, Polygon, Kotaku, US gamer and so on went to the MS event they would be embargoed and it would be a bit weird if they reported on this rumour / leak as well so thats why they didnt touch it.

Plus I would guess its probably going to be revealed tomorrow. 1th of the month and all.

Believes Dragon Quest is a franchise managed by Sony
Kind of a moot point considering nobody would've had it if Microsoft hadn't invested in the first place

And everyone would have gotten it if EA and MS didn't go behind the devs back and made it exclusive permanently, so yeah, that's kinda moot

I wonder if MS still have a marketing deal.

“The way Respawn saw it, the developer had never agreed to full exclusivity for Titanfall on Xbox platforms, only an exclusive window of up to 13 months. Zampella maintains that the team only found out that EA had turned an exclusive window deal into permanent exclusivity in the summer of 2013, weeks after the game’s spectacular showing at E3. The deal was a complicated one as Respawn wasn’t dealing directly with Xbox. Instead, terms were negotiated through EA, which signed a larger, overarching partnership deal with Microsoft for the Xbox One. In order to make the economics work and keep Titanfall alive, EA needed a first-party publisher to invest. Xbox was willing to step up and save the project, which turned out to be a wise bet. Xbox now has one of the biggest games of the year as an exclusive to it’s platforms, although it lays no claim to any sequels.”

MS saved it by making it a temporary exclusive. It was only after that EA went behind their backs and made it a permanent exclusive, something which Respawn's founder publicly complained about.

No, their funding was for permanent exclusivity. Microsoft never offered "temporary exclusivity".

As Geoff's piece outlines, the game would have been cancelled without Microsoft's involvement.

Always exclusive at launch. Then EA and MS made a deal, after that, without the knowledge of the developer of the game.

See below:

reinstalled on PC since i've sold my xbox one. Sad to see less than 500 players across modes. It still plays well with a controller on pc though. And still a ton of fun. One of my favorite shooters.

I've said this multiple times before, but I would love it if Titanfall 2 used a World War II aesthetic. Something along the lines of Warhawk, where there's an obvious inspiration.

If there's a solid campaign, story, and lore, I'll be sure to get behind this. If not I'll probably still buy the GOTY edition when it's discounted.

Where on earth did you get the idea GS is destitute or something? I feel like I'm missing something.

Someone who knows nothing about Titanfall aside from it having a good critical reception may worry that they're not clued in on everything going on and not want to jump into a "sequel" thinking they'll have no idea what's going on.

I doubt it'll be a widespread issue but after watching Sony drop numbers off of sequels in the Infamous and Killzone franchises, it's clear that it's something that publishers consider.

Infamous was on 3. Killzone was on 4. Uncharted is on 4. Once you get higher than a trilogy (or if you decide you want a totally separate story), then you stop using numbers for fear of that. Not on your second game.

Is there any truth to the rumour I read that Respawn are not making Titans the main focus in this game and it's going to be more infantry orientated and going after the people who want old school CoD "boots on the ground"?

Please, no. Titans were great on the first game.

Uhhh what is even the point of calling it Titanfall 2 then? That is the only factor that separates Titanfall from CoD now. There's no way Respawn would allow EA to bully them into making a CoD clone. Those fuckers have better shit to do than be forced to rip off their own fucking franchise.

Yet the best mode in Titanfall for me was Pilot Skirmish (8vs8 mode with no AI bots or Titans). Although I think they could find a perfect middle ground: A pilot skirmish mode with no AI bots and with titans being in a sort or timer or perk goal, because the maps certainly felt a bit barren since they were designed for AI crap moving around to fill them.

That sounds terrible. Sorry I obviously can't relate as I never really played that mode, but pivoting Titanfall away from the concept of "Titans" back towards being just another futuristic parkour shooter sounds like a bit of a waste to me.
