Love Boat [Mafia] |OT| Till Death Do Us Part

I won't speak for my partner, we only really post in the game thread.

Honestly, we didn't get much chance to discuss. I was busy all of Wednesday with work things and couldn't really communicate much to Flame in our chat (and we agree that talking primarily here is better overall, lest our conversations die with us).

That's odd. In a game full of lovers you willingly give up the advantage of discussing with your partner?

I don't think there's enough focus or discussion around the basic fact that Blawl was scum. I'm going to look back and see how their team interacted with others, and their voting patterns.
Looking back at D1 the complete lack of interaction between you and Blawl is really strange. You quote Kawl several pages after the claim and respond to Blarg when he directly asked you why they couldn't track you, but that's all I found. It seems really odd. Why? What did you think of Blawl's claim back then knowing that it conflicted with your fake claim?
Two teams I feel people are putting nearly enough attention towards:

11. [m] Dusk Soldier & [m] Karu
15. [m] hobohodo & [m] Ty4on

Also, I forgot that batsnacks even had a partner.
You've voiced suspicion of me and my partner since D1, but apart from a light explanation on D1 I don't remember anything substantial. You even promised one on D2, but presumably the lynch took precedence.

-Some friction between ultraboo and klarg, including trading of voters towards one another. Kawl consistently put ultraboo as "suspicious". Makes me maybe a little less willing to throw ultraboo into a volcano, at least for today.

Since literally nothing is happening right now I'll respond to this:

Uh... what? The last time Blarg talked about me and Boo his take on us that we were a mystery. It was even different than a "no read". Dunno about Kawl though. Don't think they ever voted on us, really.

I'm not talking about Blarg, I'm talking about Kawl, who put you down as "suspicious" on his read lists. And Blarg did vote for you, although on closer inspection it was more of a flippant vote.

But could you explain your thoughts of D2 and why you went from doubting Blawl to turboing them? I know Launch told you to turbo him, but you wouldn't have done it if you disagreed.

I wanted to end the day.

Launch said he'll put his vote down at the end of the day, than he voted Blarg over Splinter. It was 14 - 11 with his vote. I had the feeling that the change in votes would be a good source of information. I didn't feel certain about hammering Blawl at all, but I was keen to see a flip.

What was your thought process behind the Splinter vote and how did it evolve back into a Blawl vote?

1. I don't know if I believe them. They claim that their plan was to role claim early due to their power role, and that mine made the situation more appropriate for it. Not enough to go by to say either way.

If you hadn't noticed, I was kinda busy only addressing people who addressed me on D1. What could I possibly think about Blawl's claim conflicting with my claim when ours was fake? Theirs could have been true. We didn't address it partially for that reason, and also because we didn't like how Blawl was attaching their Miller claim to ours.

You've voiced suspicion of me and my partner since D1, but apart from a light explanation on D1 I don't remember anything substantial. You even promised one on D2, but presumably the lynch took precedence.

So, assuming there are 3 maf left, we have about 3 mislynches we can spare. Since there's no hard info or claims to go on today, we're going to have to do some old-fashioned scumhunting. I'm going to post my reads ordered from most town-ish to least town-ish. Admittedly some of the reads are based more on one partner than the other, but hey, if you think one person is town/maf then the other has to be too.

TOWN
[m] Karkador & [m] Zippedpinhead - I explained my reasoning on this before, I don't think it's possible for these guys to not be the town tracker.

TOWN-ISH
[m] Kyanrute [m] Retroid - I liked Retroid's common sense No Lynch vote D1 (even though he eventually switched it when he got no support), and his reasoning for voting Flame later was similar to my thoughts. He eventually voted UltraBoo, but considering townies cabot and Czar/Tim did as well, I'm not too suspicious of that.

[m] LaunchPadMcQ & [m] Gorlak - LaunchPad is a bit of a mystery to me, but I like the way Gorlak has played. He probably could have helped the lynch against Splinter last a little longer if he wanted to, but he brought the hammer down and took out a maf. He had some decent reasoning against Splinter, so I think if he actually wanted to help get him killed and later pass it off as a read gone awry he probably could have.

[m] MagnumBoy20xx & [m] batsnacks - MagnumBoy has managed to be less active than my partner, which is impressive... Anyway, I noticed that batsnacks seemed genuinely annoyed that people weren't voting when we had dueling trackers, and he didn't change his position later when the third option of Splinter arose either. I like that he saw a smart option and stuck to it even when a shiny trinket started dangling in front of him.

[m] UltraJay & [m] Boo Boo'n - The only reason I have them here is because the trackers didn't see them move. They're not cleared by any means, but they didn't do anything last night and thus we know they weren't the killers or the chat bombers, so I'm willing to let them be for now.

MAF-ISH
[m] Timeaisis & [m] FluxWaveZ - I've been tough on Flux's bizarre playstyle this whole game, but I'm not so sure of it now. He basically just deflects criticism/becomes aggressive. It's really weird, I'm almost getting Jester/Fool vibes from him. He gets votes, but I rarely see him on defense. Time seems content to mostly just coast and let his buddy do his thing. Between that and kingkitty's reasoning that Flux being on the same team as Blarg doesn't add up, I feel like killing them might just be a wasted lynch. That said, he's still played really strangely, so I wouldn't argue against finishing him off if the idea gets some traction.

[m] Coppanuva & [m] Flame_AC - They seem to have mellowed out somewhat, but I wasn't a fan of the way these guys threw their votes around looking for answers in the earlier days. It's like they were saying "answer or we'll have you dead, kiddo."

[m] Dusk Soldier & [m] Karu - I don't like how Dusk claims that he voted Splinter because "it could have been a scum gambit to protect Blawl". If you thought that was the case, then logically you must have also thought that Blawl were maf, so why even switch your vote? Kill the confirmed (in your mind, at least) maf and go after Splinter/cabot the next day.

[m] El Topo & [m] Giant Panda - Panda is quite a sketchy character. He seemed quite certain that Blawl was town during D2, seemed eager to swallow everything Blarg was saying with little critical thought applied, and insisted that Blawl had nothing to gain by claiming Miller tracker even though it was pretty obvious that they did. He also hopped on the Splinter/cabot bandwagon near the end because he wanted "more tracking results from Blawl". Leaving a potential maf alive to get another report for his buddies is simply not a smart move no matter how you slice it. He and El Topo's claim of being chat bombed doesn't affect my read because, if the power is x-shot as I suspect, maf probably wouldn't have thrown it out at a random person N1, and if they did it would have been at someone they actually suspected was a power role. I don't really think they got chat bombed at all.

DIDN'T HAVE TIME TO GO THROUGH THEIR POSTS SO I WILL GET BACK TO THEM LATER

The fluff mentions that there was a very loud noise and that (subsequently) we could not even hear the other one, so "chat bomb" as a term is not too unreasonable.

Gotcha.

I agree with Camjo that the ability is probably X-shot. I'm not confident that means they wouldn't just randomly use one of the shots on El Topo's team on N1, though.

Always prepare for the worst, amigo. People were saying there were probably 3 total maf earlier, so it's best to plan for 4.

I guess. If that's the case, I would hope Town has some pretty good stuff to deal with it, 'cause that's 8 mafia-aligned players to deal with.

I mean with that point of you 22 players is pretty good stuff to deal with it if you ask me. It also looks like there's a chance that Mafia's power might be limited as well (Blawl's was a 3-shot tracker, not unlimited).

In regards to the first point, are you suggesting there was no motive to randomly use the shot on Topo (and thus it was targeted), or are you saying it was likely random in your mind? I could see a couple reasons topo could be the chosen target that night, mainly centered around Giant Panda being a mid-day insert.

Well, let's hear it: why do you think El Topo's team could have been targeted by the Forum Nuke?

I don't strictly mean random, but it could just be a way to beget confusion. Or maybe it has to be used on a nightly basis. Or maybe there was something hinting at them being a PR earlier and they wanted to disrupt that. Not sure why they were targeted, myself.

Aaaand back again to look at things again. One angle of investigation that I have not used yet is the scumread angle. Looking back, searching through their million or so posts, Splibot found (at least) these following people scummy for whatever reason:

4. [m] LaunchPadMcQ & [m] Gorlak
6. [m] UltraJay & [m] Boo Boo'n
7. [m] Coppanuva & [m] Flame_AC
9. [m] TL21xx & [m] Camjo-Z NEW

Of course, there is nothing I can think of that would even suggest that any of the Splibot hunches were correct. This is more of a “what would mafia do” -thing. Splibot’s opinions might not have been the primary reason behind their death but I could see their opinions affect their ranking in the mafia kill list. An additional benefit for the scum: remove a harmful opinion, one could say.

so umm what then. hmm. Ah yes the questions.

1 - Coppaflames reasoning for Splibot over Blawl - I like Flame’s logic more. But I have some reservations about it still, because I did not feel the Splibot case as some did. Willing to put that down as difference of opinion though.
2 - Karu’s vote on Zippedor - You say you dislike flip-flopping at the end of the day. All right. The Splibot initiave came at the end, the Blawl one did not. Why did you not vote for Blawl?
3 - Dusk Solidier’s vote on Splibot - Am I reading you right? You saw Blawl’s lynch as inevitable. You voted for Splibot, primarily to prod them, secondarily because you thought their desire to extend discussion was scummy. Why did you never vote for Blawl? What was your read on them? To me, you seem to be saying that you did not want to participate in the Blawl lynch, no matter what their alignement was.
4 - is hobo alive - yes. I hope you can catch up before this day ends.

And now I will look at all the shit I have posted and hopefully conjure up something that makes sense.

There's 2 possible motives I can see for targeting them:

1) Make a team look uncoordinated enough to be suspicious. Giant Panda was a mid-game replacement, taking away his ability to talk to Topo and get caught up on the game would have hindered his ability to participate during the day more than it would on most other players. Had we pushed Panda more yesterday we might have noticed a difference in their opinions and thought them more suspicious.

2) To hide their power's existence more. Yes, this banks entirely on the targeted player NOT coming out and saying it exists (which is unlikely), but if you HAD to use it, why not do it on someone who's still playing catch up? If they don't claim it immediately, people are more likely to pass off any differences in opinions and actions as GP getting accustomed to the game.

I'm not saying either of these are for sure motives, but they do bear some consideration.

I know you are waiting for an answer, but would what El Topo said be enough for you to confirm they were targeted by the same action as you were? I'm asking this for my own reads.

@Time do you have any other reads other than Kark? I don't disagree with anything you said Kark's actions at the end of d2 were not good but I still think we shouldn't lynch the person who counter claimed and lynched mafia. I would consider it closer to lylo if Kark is still alive.

1. [m] Kingkitty & [m] Hyperactivity - KK and hyper have been coasting for the past couple of days I feel, considering that their evnts of being voted on at day one are gone, you'd expect these two guys to have some more to say. Regardless, I'm going to lean town.

2. [m] Karkador & [m] Zippedpinhead - Has A Tracking Role, Likely town considering how the events of night one played out. (They got Blarg.) I still don't like the weird push on Splint/Cabot but the recent news of the conversation bomb coming into play gives me more comfort into knowing they could be okay. Leaning town.

3. [m] Timeaisis & [m] FluxWaveZ - Lied about their Cop role, no trust to be had for the two. Still doubting Kark's accusations (while reasonable I guess, it doesn't change the fact that Kark was right about Blarg) doesn't make their credibility any better. Leaning heavily on scum.

4. [m] LaunchPadMcQ & [m] Gorlak - I don't like the situation regarding Splint/cabot and Launch/Gorlak yesterday and that gives me some reason to doubt these two. Gonna lean my head on scum.

5. [m] Blargonaut & [m] Kawl_USC - Confirmed Scum, DEAD

7. [m] Coppanuva & [m] Flame_AC - No read for now actually.

8. [m] *Splinter & [m] Cabot - Confirmed Town, DEAD

9. [m] TL21xx & [m] Camjo-Z NEW - I feel that Camjo's team is on the ball with the rest of the group. Interactions with Flux are important to consider when judging the group. Maybe town.

10. [m] MagnumBoy20xx & [m] batsnacks - No read

11. [m] Dusk Soldier & [m] Karu - Not hearing anything from these two. Don't like the silence.

12. [m] Kyanrute NEW & [m] Retroid - No read.

13. [m] El Topo & [m] Giant Panda - What I don't like about these two is how they didn't bother mentioning the conversation bomb yesterday. Information like that could've been worthwhile to consider when kark brought it up. The bomb hitting directly on the tracking team the next night kind of lines up with the idea being true. These guys have 'something'. Feeling good on these guys being town.

14. [m] Never Forever & [m] CzarTim - Confirmed Town, DEAD

15. [m] hobohodo & [m] Ty4on - No read

I don't get it. You realize you blindly went along with scum in D2 to almost lynch a team that was Town? I don't see why you would back El Topo's team as town simply because they have knowledge of the ability flavor.

It is 50/50. Either they are town or scum. It is better than being all I dunno on them. With this, El Panda's alignment is either or.

Are you serious? Why? Just because they have the flavor right? As if Mafia wouldn't be aware of what their own "chat bomb" ability does in terms of fluff?

The fluff mentions that there was a very loud noise and that (subsequently) we could not even hear the other one, so "chat bomb" as a term is not too unreasonable.

Would you classify the loud noise as 1) very loud 2) the loudest of noises or 3) an extremely loud noise?

The thing giving me a pause is not telling town on D2. That harmed town because Zipped and Kark couldn't prepare. I can understand thinking it was a town power or not having the time, but this sound like a powerful X-shot role and I can imagine scum fabricating an N1 attack in order to hide its limited use, get a scum town read and keep town out of the know until they could hit a high profile target.

Looking at past games I see that role PMs usually didn't include the PM received by the recipient, but I don't see why the moderator wouldn't provide that if asked. Could you confirm Burb if you would tell a hypothetical power role what PM their power produced?

Assuming maf don't know what message the recipient of their attacks receives, I suppose I'll concede that Panda and Topo are probably town. The only other way they'd know is if they aimed a chat bomb at themselves, but doing that just to discover the flavor text seems a little extreme.

Also, since all the cool kids are doing it, maybe we can finally get some answers from this slippery sea dog:

Ah, the old "let's vote for the most annoying player on D3" routine.

And let me get this straight regarding the chat bomb:
- Kark is chat "bombed" (I assume N1)
- El Topo is chat bombed later (I assume N2)
- Kark questions El Topo regarding how fluffy the fluff was
- Kark confirms El Topo must have bee chat bombed, based on the initial description given to team Kark

Is it weird to anyone else that this entire game has revolved around Karkador confirming whether or not another pair is suspicious or clean based on knowledge only he has?

I mean, I believe them both, but it's weird. We have no way to verify this.

Also, chat bomb confirms nothing. Let's assume for a moment chat bomb is a mafia ability. Well, if Kark or El Topo is scum, they have access to the description and flavor of said ability. If they aren't scum, they must have the ability or got hit by it (or found it through some other PR means). So it's still square one, doesn't lean any way.

So where does that leave us? Kark trusts El Topo as town because he shares a similar flavor? But El Topo could be the mafia bomber. Or Kark could be mafia pretending to be town, or they both could be mafia. Or they both could be town. It literally means nothing to the rest of us, and it doesn't mean a whole lot to them, either. I don't see how it clears anyone.

Kark, why does this confirm El Topo in your eyes? For the record, El Topo isn't even on my radar suspicion wise, but you continue to be and I want to know why trust him from one piece of information that could easily be faked.

This is your partner's question:

Don't you think the fact that I was acting blindly would then make me knowledgeable about others acting blindly as well?

This question is a waste of time, like the rest of every interaction I've had with him (and by extension, you). It's Day 3 now and it feels like his entire role in this game is to be a confounding distraction.

The purpose of the vote on D2 is to see where people committed their vote, and I wanted more people to commit. I also wanted to see if Blarg would commit on Splinter. Yes, I read scum on Splinter incorrectly, but it was a test one way or another - and we have the results now.

Flux's votes on that test only look like a smokescreen. It's a complete shitshow from the one player who is apparently determined to confuse and sidetrack the discussion.

Town has to have some sort of PR that can investigate, more than likely a tracker or watcher since we have a sleepwalker in the game. If it's not Kark/Zipped, then who? Keeping them on your radar seems unwarranted if no one's counterclaiming.

Chat bomb pretty much has to be a mafia ability, as it was aimed at the trackers last night. That doesn't help town. The only other possibility is that it's a reactive ability activated by visiting UltraJay/Boo Boo'n, but only Topo/Panda can confirm or deny that. We're also working off the assumption that maf don't know what message their target recieves. There's proof that Topo/Panda were breadcrumbing something D2, and the fact that they seem to know the fluff text suggests that they probably did get hit by it, for whatever reason.

We're trying to whittle down the suspect list here, and at some point you have to acknowledge that "but what if!?" will be a perennial factor. "What's more likely?" is the better question to ask. For example: Flux immediately makes a fake claim on D1 and repeatedly switches his vote around on D2 despite supposedly wanting to vote one specific person. Is this because he's trying to help town, or because he's trying to confuse and distract town as Kark suggests? What's more likely?

You can't play that game in isolation, though. If we're scum, what's the explanation for why I made the fake claim on D1 early and for why my scum buddies Blarg and Kawl made theirs afterwards?

You claim Name Cop and Blawl claims Miller. Regardless of who gets lynched, the other will look more legit since the claims contradict each other and two maf wouldn't do that, right? Neither of you get lynched, and since your power is less useful than Blarg's, you come clean the next day in an attempt to bolster Blawl's claim after they and Kark/Zipped tracked each other. You attempt to hop on the Splinter wagon late in the day to save Blawl, but decide to make it look like a joke vote after the movement doesn't gain traction by repeatedly switching.

It's not an especially logical sequence of events, but it makes more sense than fake claiming as a townie in your first post.

Might as well repost this

Team BLAWL's Greatest Shits Album (ranked from the biggest suspicious as scum at #1, to smallest suspicious as likely Town at #13)
1. [m] Karkador x [m] Zippedpinhead — (in this megapost)
2. [m] Timeaisis x [m] FluxWaveZ — (in this megapost)
3. [m] Rest [m] Dusk Soldier x [m] Karu — So much of a relative non-presence that I have no idea what to think about these two. Their placement up here is based solely on a gut feeling.
4. [m] Kingkitty x [m] Hyperactivity — I don't even know.
5. [m] *Splinter x [m] Cabot — (in this megapost)
6. [m] Coppanuva x [m] Flame_AC — I don't know where their loyalties lie, nor their votes. Erratic posters who weave in and out of the discussion with seemingly good observations, but... I never know when they're going to pop up? They're like scavengers who notice everything and jump at opportunities.
7. [m] UltraJay x [m] Boo Boo'n — Torn on these two. Nothing they've said really stands out to me as either for or against Town in general. I don't know. They're kind of... safe? It's hard to describe how I feel about them.
8. [m] LaunchpadMcQ x [m] Gorlak — I don't know what to think of Launch. He's definitely taken a step back this game, lying low and thus I harbour my doubts. Gorlak is a quite active participant, and maintains a solid and meaningful presence.
9. [m] TL21xx x [m] Camjo-Z — I don't see much of TL21xx around, but Camjo-Z is a willing participant in discussion, and seems quite knowledgeable regarding gameplay, seems to have a good background in playing before. Welcome to the GAFia crew!
10. [m] Retroid x [m] Kyanrute — Retroid's swathing inactivity is worrying, but his partner Kyanrute seems competent enough, and continues to carry the pair.
11. [m] Miracle [m] Giant Panda x [m] El Topo — I appreciate both El Topo and Giant Panda for daring to consider Team BLAWL's POV in this conflict. Thank you both, sincerely. They contribute well.
12. [f] Sophia [m] hobohodo x [m] Ty4on — Sophia, when she was here, was an able analyst of the topics at hand. Ty4on is similarly just as capable. There was a good vibe overall from both of them; now, I wonder how hobohodo will fare.
13. [m] batsnacks x [m] MagnumBoy20xx — batsnacks isn't afraid to propose plans, ask questions and approach problems logically. Magnum is being carried by his partner. The only reason they are ranked highest here is because of batsnacks' active contributions to the fold.

I think, to some extent, this list might have been designed to confuse from beyond the grave. However, there's gotta be something to mine from here.
