Stylistically, on paper it's a great fight for Conor, if you discount the size difference. At least in theory. Another boxer. But Conor did get too cocky and not consider the importance of the size difference.

I mean Conor was pretty much schooling him until one big punch made him do the dance. From there Diaz really started beating him.

It's easy to say now, but for the majority of the fight Conor was beating him. And did have Nates face in a mask of blood. And when the blood got bad, that's when Conor really started letting his chin hang and not protecting it all. Rewatch the fight. Conor really just got too confident and was not protecting himself because he thought he had Nate finished.

If Conor did get hit with that one punch, was protecting his chin, he probably would've won. But yea, Nate is just too big. 4 inches and 10 lbs is no joke.

I'd actually love to see a rematch, lol, but that is not likely to happen. Conor will lose some shine, but he'll remain a big star. Exciting promoter and a very very exciting fighter. Few people are as fun to watch fight, imo. Just that style of finishing people off with those straight lefts.

Champs who lose get title shots all the time. It's not crazy. There is no exact science to this. Fan interest, business and overall appeal plays apart in matchmaking all the time. It's nothing new. You could make equal cases for both Holly and Ronda to get the next shot and neither side would be wrong.

Glad I put money on Diaz at 5-1. Makes the Conor loss a bit easier to swallow. Just had a bad feeling about this fight

Overall I think he was too reckless in his weight changing and probably picked a really bad opponent to make a debut at that weight against. The ball was in Conor's court to choose his opponent when Dos Anjos dropped out. He should have been smarter than picking a guy with such a clear height and reach advantages and whose strengths were McGregors weaknesses

He also looked a fair bit slower than usual, it feels like he had to quickly gain size without maintaining his speed

The glaring holes in his ground game are really obvious though. And as someone who claims to be a perfectionist you'd hope he works harder on it

Fan interest and appeal does not make her deserving. I'm taking about what has she done to deserve a title shot? She stepped away after a brutal loss and may not return for nearly a year. You have fighters who are actually doing something to put themselves in a position get a shot.

Check out his Fox Sports interview after the fight. Connor is still the best fighter ever and the first round proves it. Connor can do anything he wants in the UFC since he is the best there is, the best there was and the best there ever will be.

Holly tried to get Tate off of her and spent a lot of energy doing so. By the time she was on the mat (again) Tate had already had it locked for a good while. For all we know Holly didn't tap because she simply couldn't or wasn't even aware enough to do so.

Thoughts on the fight, maybe I watched a different fight than a lot of the McGregor fans on here, sure seems like it.

While McGregor landed several lefts in the first Diaz started to get lose with his jab and finding a home for that check left hook late in the round.

Soon as that started to happen I felt the Diaz win was only a matter of time and McGregor still had a punchers chance with that power but not much else.

lol you two have never seen a Diaz fight have you? The fight was over after the first 2min. Despite what you might think about a bloody face that fight was a Diaz fight stylistically from minute 1 until Conner got choked out. You cannot beat the Diaz brothers at their own game, watch nick vs bj pen and you learn why, the only people who win against them are the ones that aren't stupid enough to engage with them in a brawl. You may feel like your getting the better of them, but they quickly take you out into open waters that you've never explored. That's why conner went for the takedown despite him knowing it was suicide, he was panicking because he new diaz was just warming up while he on the other hand was gassing out. Nick Diaz called the fight, said it would be over in round 2 and that's all she wrote. Not to gloat, but I called Diaz by submission in this thread hours b4 the fight and what I saw is exactly what I expected.

The reason why Holm could fight for so long was because Tate could never fully lock in a clean RNC. That whole second round was her trying to and she just couldn't.

McGregor got opened up the fuck up off ground and pound and gave Diaz a free rnc. There was no more fighting, he spent his energy trying to avoid the ground and pound and put himself at a more disadvantageous position.

A loss is a loss. You don't get any more respect for being put to sleep. People call him a pussy now but if he gets put to sleep he just becomes a meme
