Limited Run Games - Putting digital games into your hands

The creator of Unepic who is a Spanish developer is interested in a vita physical version you know LRG? It's a great game that many people would like ;)

They mentioned on Twitter that the game was not complete yet and they want to wait for a physical release. I'm OK with that stance as we don't want to release an incomplete product.

Oh man. That's what was missing from the survey.
I freaking love specially covered "carts".

Is that even possible with Vita?

Definitely not for small runs. Maybe if we were doing 10k - 20k on a Vita title but I can't imagine that being feasible for anything but the biggest names (Danganronpa, Persona, etc.)

Yikes! Slowly upping the price. Hope we don't reach the point we are paying EBay prices for these things. That said, the price is still fair.

Our prices slide with the digital MSRP. Oddworld is $19.99 digitally. In order to make sure Oddworld makes a similar amount per unit on the physical release, we had to price that game at $29.99. Typically, our physical releases are going to clock in at $10 over the digital price, with $24.99 being the absolute lowest price.

One of our primary goals is to make physical releases worthwhile to developers and to accomplish that we have to make sure they're getting returns similar to digital. :)

For anyone who's played New n' Tasty, how is it?

From what I understand, it's a remake. I'd prefer to play the original first at least. I'm wondering if this game is the impressive sort of remake that would make me want to play NnT too. Is it like a Metroid Zero Mission / Pokemon FRLG / REmake, or is it more like an OoT 3D / WW HD type of deal?

It's great. The original game is tough as nails, NnT added a lot of conveniences that actually made it feasible for me to beat the game (though the harder difficulty levels in NnT sure match or even outmatch the original's difficulty). NnT is a complete remake of Oddysee with a bunch of new additional content. Definitely a Zero Mission/FRLG/REmake situation as opposed to a standard remaster. It's definitely a game worth experiencing!

The original is also worth experiencing - PS1 copies are pretty cheap and they'll play on any PS3, PS2, or PS1. :)

I'm still wondering if I should buy the vita version of New Tasty, since I already have it on PS+.

If you enjoy the game at all, it'd be worth having a physical copy is your subscription to PS+ ends. Might also be a pain to play Vita PS+ titles in a few years if Sony shuts down any Vita online services.

Yeah, the game is quality. At the same time, I could save and buy other game instead of double dipping.

If there is a surplus of money next to release, I will buy it as I originally planned. The same thing happened with Breach & Clear (but didn't happened with SMRPG), so it could happen this month as well.

Something about it being episodic and that all the episodes were not out yet.

Are we talking about this game?

Because it doesn't make sense it being released episodic, I don't think so at least.

I'm willing to pay $40 for Vita releases as long as the quality is there. I'd rather pay $40 for Salt & Sanctuary, Oddworld, Axiom Verge or Cosmic Star Heroine than $25 for Chronovolt, Blast 'em Bunnies, Pixel Hunter or even most indies tbh.

Good games is the most important to me, not that every single indie ever gets a retail release. A higher price tag might sometimes be required to reach that goal.

Hope you can work on a ps4/ps vita version of hyper light drifter down the line after its released. Would definitely pay $60 or more for a physical version.

Honestly surprised by this considering it felt like a complete game other than an open ended plot point near the end.

I mean I can see how the game could be "episodic" since that plot point could probably open up another game, just surprised that the 1st isn't considered standalone I guess. Then again I only recently played through it and never really looked into what all they had planned for it.

This looks cool, but it's not something I would buy on PS4. Missed opportunity imo

EDIT: And they're also releasing OlliOlli 2 separately. whut

I thought it was a 2in1 collection. Releasing both separately makes no sense. I think it actually makes LESS sense than when Hotline Miami 1&2 were released in Japan, but only including HM1 on the cart and giving you a download code for HM2.

Wasn't it said earlier in topic that crafting a new launcher for multiple executables wasn't a simple task?

The first one is a collection of 1 and 2, the other is 2 alone

It makes extra little sense

So we need to ask....

The whole thing about us going after bigger games like Fatal Frame, Yakuza, etc, is that they wouldn't be part of the LRG line. We would just be paying to be the sole distributor basically. We would have to charge more than our normal price. For example Yakuza 5 would be $45-$60 and we would have to order at least 5,000 copies, but in some cases for other games we would order up to 10,000, maybe more.

So what we want to know is, would you honestly pay that price? We don't want people to think if we get a huge game that we can magically make the price $24.99-$30. We would have to buy these games at bulk from the publisher. BUT it would mean that a physical copy would actually exist and we would have access to even more titles in the future if this did well.

So just take a moment to digest that. We have a chance right now to do something similar with a game for Vita but the price would have to be $44.99. But we would gain access to more titles in that series and possibly other series from them.

Heck yeah. Those are all normal MSRPs, anyways, which we would be paying if those came out normally on the systems. I'm pretty sure fans would be just fine, given that it's the ONLY way to get a physical copy in english.

I'd easily pay normal retail price (and a little more) for game I'm interested in. For example, Ray Gigant.

Absolutely. I'd happily pay $60 for (say) a nice physical release of Yakuza 5. I think you'd have to be careful if you started inching over $60 into like Atlus/NISA fancy limited edition territory, as usually what's included in the box isn't worth anything close to the $20-30 premium they go for.

We totally understand that! These would be cart only or disc only. No CE or super cool bonus stuff.

We just worry because NISA seems to take awhile to sell out of their CE of games even at $60...

Man, I would pay like $80 to own Fatal Frame 5 or Yakuza 5 physically.

As everyone states above I would also pay a full release price for bigger games. Specially Yakuza or games that I love and there's no physical edition anywhere.

I would be all for this! If it allows you to gain access to more titles then I am all for it. Pricing for these games is understandable considering who the publishers are.
