Games you remember, names you don't

Trying to remember a sega mega drive game. I'm in the UK and must have picked it up at a car boot sale. I remember two things about it;

You play as a muscly shirtless man with a sword. Side scroller fighting animals I think. Start outdoors in a grassy mountain area and can go inside caves. I remember the music being cool.

The title had the main characters name in it, which was a single word game. I think it was a historical name, maybe beginning with G.

It sounds a bit like Danan: The Jungle Fighter, but that's a Master System game...

EDIT: It might also be The Story of Thor (aka Beyond Oasis).

Wait a minute... Wait a minute...

By George I think you're right! I had no idea they even made sequels to galaxian! And I played galaga DE and DX.

Thank you so much! That's been bugging me for years!

Edit: reading up on the game. This thing was a beast! I imagine trying to buy one these days in working order would cost a small fortune.

Here's a thread of someone purchasing and moving one:

http://www.dragonslairfans.com/smfor/index.php?topic=231.0

this is absolutely amazing, I just read through that entire thread and I admire that dude's dedication.

If it isn't one of the games that has already been mentioned, the only other games I can think of at the moment are Rastan (another Master System game) and Blades of Vengeance.

I think Gods is the closest.

The shirtless thing is making me think of two games, but neither match the historical (possible "G" title) and the first doesn't have a sword. Basically, here's two Genesis games without shirts. High five.

so I played this as a kid and didn't really understand the game:

-PS1 game
-Future Setting
-flew around in a hover car

sorry that's all I got, I wonder what game that is because I would love to revisit it

My girlfriend has one. It's a super old PC game where you a skiing down a hill covered in trees and you have to dodge trees. If you hit a tree you explode and there's blood everywhere. Then a angry snowman comes out and laughs at you.

I used to play this game with my brother maybe 7 or 8 years ago, it was a first person shooter on the 360 where you had all sorts of weapons you could pick up and use to fight each other with. I recall colorful characters, and we always used to fight on the desert environment.

That's all I remember, any ideas?

I have one 2. Both on atari 7800 I believe..

1- you were trying to get out of a hole or something and there were 3 or 4 layers to climb up and there were flying swords and other things you had to dodge while switching layers. At some point I swear there was a cut scene of you with your family outside the hole.

Edit: found it. DROL

2- a game where I think you were painting before getting caught by someone. I'm pretty sure it also aged the nutcracker suit.

Not a side-scroller and the protagonist wears a shirt. :p

One thing I've learned from this thread is to never completely trust someone's memories :)

Especially my own :(

The second one is definitely Bristles.

I just remembered another one. I believe it is an Atari 800 game (might have appeared on other platforms, I'm not sure) that features two guys going into a sewer filled with crocodiles. At the beginning of each level, the character says "okay, boss" in an east coast US accent.

Thanks y'all! Y'all just made her so excited. She was having some really hard nostalgia while out drinking and was so happy thinking about it.

She just found out you can buy it on the App Store and is doing it now. Y'all made her night.

I remember that one! Reading that made me smile. Video game Nostalgia is a beautiful
thing. Just make sure she's prepared to not like it anymore though.

Halo 3 on sandtrap? Did you play it when it was new? Do you remember any of the weapons? Was it 360 exclusive?

This has been driving me crazy for years, but it's going to be incredibly vague, as I probably only played it for a couple hours and wouldn't remember much of it anyway.

Genesis JRPG, which was available on Sega Channel (I remember the system prompting you that it may or may not retain your save if you quit and played other games). I believe it was a fantasy or medieval setting. Can't remember anything about the combat, or story. All I remember is something about a waterfall, and an early event where you had to go do enough stuff for a story-advancing event or area to become available. I think someone was preparing something for you that you needed to advance. (Or maybe treating a sick person? Or something involving a bridge?)

I haven't looked in a while. At some point I looked through games that were listed as being available on Sega Channel and couldn't find it.

I've found most of the old MS-DOS games that my dad and I used to play together, but there's one I can't find/remember the title of, even though it seems like it should be easy.

It's set on a spaceship, or at least in a very sci-fi environment, and there're various cameos (Princess Leia, tribbles, etc). I believe it was a text adventure with simple graphics of your environment. You start out imprisoned, IIRC, and have to escape, picking up items, interacting with stuff, that kind of thing.

Super nostalgic now, thinking about us playing that and Transylvania I and Kingdom of Kroz... And how we'd always have a tough time changing to the right directory to run the file. Good times on our first home computer.

I haven't played them so it could be way wrong but any chance it's Space Quest (or one of the sequels)? Being that they're funny games I could see them featuring sci-fi cameos as little jokes.

If the question is Genesis rpg, I'd default answer Landstalker (assuming Phantasy star is too obvious).

Try http://www.listal.com/list/rpg-world-genesis-mega. The picture of Landstalker has a waterfall at least :)

Okay this one's really tough. But I definitely remember it. There was a game on PS2 I used to love, but I played only the half of it before it stopped working. Here's what I remember about it
-It's on Playstation 2.
-The mood of the game is very very dark and ominous, and so is the design of the characters (some designs were really mature)
-The gameplay consists of choosing your "chess piece" warriors and playing against an opponent in something very similar to a chess game. I think it could be tactical RPG but..
-Once the game starts and you move your chess pieces, as you come in contact with the opponent piece, the gameplay shifts to a Mortal Kombat type of fight, and sometimes you can escape but with your piece having less HP (There's an HP bar for each piece).
-It is NOT a Mortal Kombat game. I'm sure of that.

Anyone?

There's one game I've been trying to remember the name of for ages, a game that was on the Sega Saturn I think.

I remember the first part of the game was on a boat heading to an island...and the plot of the rest of the game was determined by how quickly you got off the boat and to the island. I think there were maybe 4 or 5 time slots that you could get which would effect how the rest of the game played out.
I think there was some kind of green monster that caused a disaster on the ship and you were chasing it or...something. I really can't remember any details beyond the time mechanic on the ship.

Yup, that was it. Don't know how I forgot, haha.

Oh shit really? I was mostly joking! Well either way I'm glad you remembered. Great memories with that one. I really wish they'd bring it to pc

Okay this one's really tough...

I don't know but that sounds awesome! Was it a special mode or the main game? Definitely sounds like wrath unleashed. I just Googled 'ps2 chess fighting game'

Thinking about games with simple japanese (I'm beginning to learn the language and even if it is still too soon I would like to find simple games aimed at kids) I remembered a PC-Engine game I briefly played at the time, maybe even just played at the store, that's saying something about the fuzzy memories.
It was a platformer I think and you could swap character during levels. I may be wrong but I remember kids character, with one of them leaner and taller. Wearing glasses maybe.

Nope, I remember less exagerated sprites, and a mood... Really kid-friendly, like you would tell me it's a Doraemon game I would believe you. This type of mood. Kid-friendly platformer with character swap on the fly.

Edit - a little sad to discover that the game doesn't feature kids with glasses, but If nobody can attest of the contrary, I may very well be talking about 'Aoi Blink'.

Sword of Vermilion? An interesting game in that it mixed styles quite a lot; top-down towns, blobber-style wilderness exploration, brawler-style standard combat, fighting-game-esque boss combat.

I think one of the early quests is curing a plague.

A New Challenge GAF – Help Me!

My life fades. The vision dims. All that remains are memories. I remember a time of arcades back in the early to mid 90's. But most of all I remember a game, a horizontal shooter, that my younger sister and I played every time we went there. To understand what this game is we have to go back to what I know:

It was a cute side-scrolling (horizontal) shooter featuring an otter or ferret in a red biplane. His little head, complete with goggles, were sticking out the top and his little legs were dangling from the bottom. It was a simple game, nothing complex but very colourful for the time.

I've been struggling to think of the name for years but after brain surgery and chemo, my brain isn't what it used to be. I know that it's not Parodius or Sonic as some posters have previously suggested.

That sounds a bit like the flight sequences from Auf Wiedersehen Monty:

Do you have a platform in mind? That may help narrow it down. I've got a nagging feeling I know another game that fits the rough outline you described, but I'm struggling to pin it down to a name.

Edit: Oh, oops. Missed the mention of arcades, which means most of those are unlikely. Talespin may have cropped up on a Playchoice-10, I guess?

Edit2: I don't have the opportunity to look through it myself, but it might be buried somewhere in this

This is a tough one. I'd suggest Sky Kid, but that was already suggested by someone in the SHMUP thread.

Here's what I could find:

Played this in an Airport lounge somewhere - A mecha game that played like a cross between Gunblade and a Gundam VS/Virtual ON game. Had a cockpit seat that moved with the player - massive slightly curved screen.

Was a total blast.

There's a similar Shmup that fits your description (cute, with some kind of animal piloting a biplane) with a very generic name i can't remember right now (think "fighter bomber" or something like that) but the dangling legs make me confident this is the game you're looking for.
OT Hope your health is better now !

Holy Potatoes THAT IS IT! You have made me so freaking happy right now, and thank you so much for everyone who offered suggestions. So much for it being a red plane but hey, that's me with half a brain for you. Wow that is some awesome detective work. Thank you.

I saw another post in this thread from 2012 asking about the same game but was stumped to find anything else about it online. Cheers gentlemen, I'm gushing like a schoolgirl at a New Kids on the Block concert.
