What someone in VR looks like when legit SHOOK.

Definitely not the only one... Man that shit must be terrifying.

BTW if the guy that was filming touched her in the back she would have a heart attack or something.

Even for people not at risk, I worry someone will wind up panicking and bailing straight into a wall instead of just taking the headset off. People need to be really careful about pranking people in VR.

Imagine a Resident Evil VR game... REmake VR.... Silent Hill VR?

My god.

That would then mean the cord would be getting in the way of your arms instead. It'd have to be part of a rig that's actively moving and orienting itself along with the player.

You wanna go in this with me? The VR cable management business is gonna be booming baby

Lol, people get scared at movies in theatres with over a hundred people. You don't think playing a video game with your FoV being the game itself would be terrifying?

No because it's a video game and I understand literally nothing is actually going to happen to me. Jump scares, sure. Screaming and shaking...come on.

Come on what? Is that inconceivable that some people have different reactions to fear?

Thanks OP, my wife came downstairs thinking I was watching porn but found me watching someone play video games. I don't know which is worse.

Do you get confused as to people being confronted directly with their phobias in a controlled situation and reacting?

From some generic copy-paste zombie thing that just walks at you no less.

I thought the video would be about a VR version of Amnesia or SOMA or something.

Yup, das goin be me right there.

Maybe a little overacting in the vid, but I think she was definitely stressed out in the second half.

Haha I feel for her man, must have been terrifying.

Buuut, this ain't shit compared to the horror mindfucks we shall experience once devs truly get the hang of VR development(foveat rendering bare minimum). They need to have stroke/heart-attack warnings for half them games.

Imagine a nightmare simulator where you're stuck in mud trying to escape a monster, a killer is chasing you and you can't run, you're in school in your underwear lol

Make sure you tell other people in your house what you're watching or else it sounds like you're watching porn.

Good for you man, sadly not all of us are as brave as you.

I tried laughing a bit louder than usual and thinking out loud so they'd think otherwise lol.

Put it this way; if you can let yourself get pulled into the atmosphere of such games as Amnesia and Alien: Isolation and even King's Field IV with a mere monitor, THIS, with the same quality type of game will be exponentially... more... in all those areas. But if you just play those games with a detached mindset, this won't do nearly as much.

I can't wait to be screwed with, personally. I hope devs push it to the limit.

EDIT: nay. NAY I say. Beyond the limit is a nice starter.

Douchebag. Yes, me.
I'm pretty sure at some point someone is going to play space pirate trainer or hover Junkers and dive straight out a window.

Especially now when the weather is getting warmer and people start needing to air out their homes/offices.

I tried this demo out yesterday, and I had to turn it off before the zombies got too close to me.

They look like generic video game zombies from 2004... but it still set off some kind of intense primal fear in me the way they slowly approached, getting louder from every direction. Heart starting beating fast and I noped the heck out of there.

Watching it in a youtube video really doesn't convey what it feels like.

Omg there was such a good opportunity for that guy. He totally should have turned off all of the apartment lights and got a flash light for his face right as she took off the headset. She would've soaked her pants.

I never really find horror games that tense because they're just kinda... so badly busted, play-wise.

I imagine the same applies to VR, only with extra possibilities for breaking the scenario. Just wathcing the video, I can already see the magic floating items being enough of a disconnect to suck the tension out.

So awesome. Can't wait to play some horror games with this. Hopefully the get Alien Isolation support working again.

It's a video game, settle down.

Lol thats like the lowest hanging fruit troll post ever and you still felt the need to post it?

Yeah, an experience which completely fools 2 of your senses (sight and hearing) and therefore (and most importantly) your brain to think that you are actually about to be murdered by a monster is just a game so settle down brah. LOL

In VR you can really feel that awful sense of knowing something is actually behind you and getting closer. Like, physically behind you. It creates such a palpable sense of dread.

This. This so much.

I got to play a little of that Insomniac 3rd person game for the Rift. Demo consisted of spiders running at you and scaling cliffs. At the very end you walk into an eerie room with a single candle and faint whispers in your ear. Then tentacles start wrapping around your FOV (your head). I'm a HUGE horror movie buff and it takes a lot to freak me out. I damn near broke the Rift when the person in charge of the demo decided to wrap her arms around me in tandem with the tentacles...

What. Ok look I'm terrified of heights, like I don't like them at all. I more than likely will fire up one height fuck with ya vr thing and go, yep that still fucks with me. What I won't do is continue to stand there with the headset on while I shit my pants.

Why didn't she just take the headset off if it was that phobia triggering whatever was going on in that video.

Damn, horror fans are going to have so much fun with VR. If I am forced to play horror games, I can look away from the monitor, but in VR, you turn away you look at your back. Probably I just hide somewhere in a bright light crying in PT.

I will hit someone who do that. Won't even care if she is a girl =/ VR may fail if there are many cases of pranks like this.

You're not following the line of discussion up to what you've quoted. The original post is saying that the person is overreacting, not questioning whether it was within their power to stop what was happening or not.

I don't know how I am going to play any horror or scary game. I already have issues with them without vr. Yikes.

VR will make people pay more attention to the health warnings on Horror games.

And people are going to get hurt going in circles when they trip on the cords.

That was the second game I played on my Vive. I was legit experiencing so much stress as I moved into a corner of my room screaming as zombies surrounded me. The only time I had to tear the headset off my head.

You know how sometimes you can play a game for a super-long time and get afterimage flashes of game elements when you close your eyes?

Go for a long session of a game like this and have the lights off when you take off your headset.

She for sure thought she was actually about to be murdered by a monster!
