Rumor: "Untitled Spiderman PS4 Project" incoming

Not sure if I believe this one. I doubt Activision would let a Spider-Man game be exclusive to any one platform with their licensing deal due to end next year. Don't get me wrong, I'd kill for even a decent Spider-Man game at this point but I'm going with false on this.

Leave the Spiderman IP alone regarding games. Move on.
What? No! Pretty sure people felt this way about Batman before Rocksteady made Arkham Asylum. All you need is the right developer that knows just what to do. Beenox has certainly NOT been the right dev. All of their efforts were bad. Someone else needs a shot at the IP.

What if this is Kojima's next project for Sony? You play as Spider-Man for 50 hours, but in the end he pulls off his mask, and it's revealed it was Uncle Ben all along. It was Peter who was killed that night. SINS OF THE UNCLE.

A Spiderman game by a top-tier dev like Sucker Punch would be a godsend. Shu sounded pretty excited about their next game, Verendus too.

I switched to an alt account to ditch my embarrassing tag so I could be an embarrassing Naughty Dog fanboy in peace. Ask me anything!

Snyder should direct a movie version of this.

I am still looking for it. I think it was hinted in an interview that they were taking a break from InFamous and that their new game was pushing the visual fidelity more than what they did with ISS or First Light. I will edit this post if I find the interview (I think it was with Shuhei Yoshida).

I think you are talking about the Kinda Funny interview he did at E3? He talks about playing a vertical slice of their new project, but never mentions its new IP. Im pretty sure we have no hints about what their new game is apart from some job postings

been wanting a Sucker Punch Spider-Man game for a minute

they would nail the look and traversal if nothing else, and that's about all i'm asking for at this point

Good call on Sucker Punch. A Spider-Man game from them would be something
special.

Heck, most of the time in Infamous Second Son, I found myself just running around and appreciating all the fine details the revs put into the city, textures, etc. Top quality stuff.

Now add Spidey and wow...

Just bring back Spiderman 2 swinging. Please. Can't believe swinging was done so perfectly once and then changed for the worse with every single iteration that followed.

That first person Spider-Man commercial as a game would be great. Also sucker punch would be awesome. And if naughty dog wants to do anything I'll let them. Anything.

It's crazy how nothing else has came close. Not even the Energy Hook game from the guy who created the web-slinging in Spider-Man 2 lives up to the King. I wish there was a way to play SM2 on modern platforms :(

Let Insomniac do it.

Sunset Overdrive could easily be tweaked into a Spider-man game. Infamous felt lifeless and dull.

Spider-man should be plying his trade in a vibrant city full of life.

If Sony were to make a Spider-Man game it would likely be developed on a low budget like those Muppets and Looney Tunes games.

While that's possible. If given to a dev like Sucker Punch it'll most likely be given a respectable budget. Also you want to leverage the Spiderman IP. Spiderman makes a shit ton of money and he's about to see a resurgence thanks to Civil War and his own movie. Seriously if they can just get the web slinging right they are in a good spot.

Please God, make this a Spider-Gwen action game by Platinum

Ideally, I would love to have both.

>Main/big budget MCU Spider-man game for those who want that
>Comics-based P* Spider-Gwen character action game for those would delight in that

Different products, different scopes and different characters used.

We are all just assuming this is a Sucker Punch game, right? The only solid proof we have is a listing. Or is there any new development?

A Sucker Punch developed Spiderman game would be amazing. Combat and traversal could really be implemented well.

I just want a good Spiderman game. Though if true, I hope that's it's a unique take on the universe, instead of a movie tie in game.

No VR please, just a damn good spider-man game and I'll buy it day 1!

Web swinging in VR would be amazing though! :O

I wouldn't want it in place of a decent Spider-Man game though, but as a small ofshoot, or $10 downloadable title, that'd be rad.

Lol VR

It's a tie-in Spiderman 2017 game guys. Like they've had for every Spider-Man movie so far. As dedicated AAA superhero games died, they've remained. Hopefully they boot Beenox into a vault at the bottom of the ocean and hire a decent dev this time.

Aw, Beenox did good work under the time constraints they had. I'd like to see what they could do with some extra time to make their games.

It makes 0 sense for Marvel to license or develop any of its game as an exclusive to one console or another. The only way I see an exclusive anything from Marvel on PS4 is if Marvel gets more rights on the spidey movie rights, maybe setting a day where the rights completely revert.

Activision still owns the Spider-Man IP for gaming. And it makes no sense for Sony to work on it when they consistently want to own IP's for games they fund.

I think the Activision - Marvel deal expired in 2014. I did find something from 2005 saying it would expire in 2017, but considering the games were pulled last year (and then deadpool was put back), I think it has indeed expired and Marvel can license them to whoever they want

How is Spider-man on Marvel movies when Sony has the rights?
Deals.

Completely different. Marvel actually owns spiderman and would have to greenlight an exclusive to one console. They have no incentive to do that.

Well...Marvel did say that console games were coming.

Maybe we might get an announcement at E3.

Marvel is leaving a lot of money on the table by not having a big videogame, and especially console, presence. Granted, Batman probably is the easiest super hero to make a good game for due to gadgets and investigation, I'm sure there could be very, very good games based on Marvel properties that would make the company millions per year.

Sony owns the movie rights until they give it up themselves, which is probably never.

Marvel is already prying Spidey movie rights away from Sony, slowly but surely. The publicly available information on the movie deal heavily favors sony, so I think there is more to this deal than meets the eye.

According to the leaked emails, Marvel also has the right to "freeze" the contract if they want.

AFAIK the only deal where Marvel really, really screwed themselves in perpetuity was the theme park movie rights east of the mississippi.

That game was complete shit, especially compared to the first one imo and when you played missions it went back to webs sticking to the sky.
I got the platinum though because it was easy and I never wanted to have a reason to play it again lol.

First one was way better, second one was pretty damn bad, especially when realized if I didn't solve random crimes constantly they would put up nets to cut my webs while free roaming, like WTF lol.

Fanboy Dreaming Here; Just Dreaming Up my Dream Spiderman Game

All this hype for a Spiderman game got me so pumped now! Huge Spiderman fan and love the majority of the games (there a few big stinkers though). All this hype sort of got me thinking how best to make the game and I think I just thought up my dream game and how it should play. Hear me out.

So looking at a PS4 controller for instance the game could work like this:

R2 and L2 are your right and left web shooters respectively, and it almost works like Spiderman 2 with how you swing using each web shooter independently.

R1 and L1 are also your web shooters but they are more specialized. They work on like a radial wheel and you can change each web shooter (right and left) to do something different from one another. These buttons let you web zip to a target, pull a target to you, shoot impact webbing (or a web ball) or wrap up someone or something in webbing. These can be used for the bad guys or for puzzle solving too. You can mix and match what your right and left shoulder buttons do, and if you have the same power for both your right and left shooters, then they will be more powerful / effective (like using both hands for a faster zip or rapidly shooting web balls). To make aiming with these webs easier, I think a little cross air (like i mean small as to not interrupt the flow or swinging) like inFamous' would help immensely.

As for the face buttons, X can be your jump, Square for light attack, Triangle for heavy attack, and O for like a counter attack (similar to action games of today). I think the combat would work well being like a Platinum game or Web of Shadows instead of Arkham style.

And then to complete the buttons, L3 will be sprint and R3 will be like your Spider - Sense (which will work somewhat like Batman's Detective Vision).

And then Start and Select buttons (or the big pad on PS4) will bring up menus, maps, upgrade charts for abilities / combos / faster swinging, etc. The game can have like an experience system that can be earned from stopping crimes, taking pics for JJJ or delivering pizza or something. And then you can upgrade Spidey or buy different costumes for him.

As for the story I think it can go two ways, a realistic way or a crazy too good to be true way:

The realistic could be some plot involving the Sinister Six or something and then Green Goblin is like the last boss in some crazy fight all over the city and leading to a bridge. Stay away from symbiotes and save Venom and all that for a sequel. Maybe like tease Eddie Brock or something.

The crazy way could be some Spider-Verse game where you can play in two different New Yorks with like four different Spider People. Like you could play as Peter Parker and Miles Morales (to represent Earth - 616) and then some dimensional stuff happens and you have Spider - Gwen and Spiderman 2099 come into the picture. You play in Earth - 616 present day New York but you eventually get to go to 2099 and zip through the flying cars and future New York and all that.

These are just my crazy ideas for my dream Spidey games that would blow me away personally. Would love to see my favourite super hero back in action on the home consoles with an amazing and spectacular adventure (pun intended)
