It's gonna be shite. I'm guessing people will be bored during the action setpieces (no thanks to wooden Hemsworth) because it'll be CGI everywhere and so, little emotional investment in the destruction.

Of course, that went for the original movie too which was bad. The only thing memorable about the first movie was the Will Smith line cause the internet made a false and racist meme out of it.

Midnight Special will stay as the best sci-fi/alien movie of the year.

Ugh, looks like the usual dumb summer shit Hollywood's been churning for years. Also, Emmerich is directing, so there's that.

What I'm wondering is...HOW the hell did Pullman get THAT old? He looks 20 years older than Goldblum.

I've never seen an Emmerich movie that I didn't consider a ton of fun.

I hope Earth ends up completely obliterated.

I'm telling you, this is how the movie should end.

Earth is destroyed, fucked obliterated. The last vessels of humanity are forced into space with the technology they have gathered over 20 years, entire derelict fleets are floating in orbit from what ever battle happened in the movie. Years go on, we take the remanence of their fleet that is in space and on Earth and create a home among the stars.

The movie has one last scene, Goldblum and Co. are in the heart of a destroyed mothership and find a star map that shows all of our local immediate cluster showing the trail of dead planet after dead planet, a perfect path of where they have been, showing once flourishing worlds completely obliterated by the aliens.

And then you see Goldblum start following the trail, and it ends on a single planet. It's not dead, it's atmosphere is habitable to humans. It's the aliens home planet.

The new cast members have zero charisma.

Let them fight.

This looks fun as fuck but I hope it does poorly at the box office so Emmerich has a harder time remaking Stargate.

Hell no, I want this to be a box office success so we get the final ID4 movie where we hit back at the aliens home world!

If this doesn't happen in the movie, it will be a complete 0/10 to me.

Emmerich is stupid and nutty enough to do this. I just hope he did.

That might be the greatest pitch for a sequel I've ever read. All it's missing is a Will Smith cameo with a snappy line.

I can see it going this direction, but with Goldblum and the disembodied head of Spiner embarking on this great adventure never to be heard-from/spoken-of again.

Emmerich's disaster porn fetish is as offensive as ever (seriously, how many people died in that fucking trailer..., ) but that actually looks pretty good.

The whole Robotech lite vibe really works for me even if the 'the aliens are the size of continents' just reeks of creative bankruptcy.

I'll definitely check it out.

That makes sense if they want to make ID4 a trilogy. And looking how much damage the new Mothership is doing it wouldn't make sense if it didn't screw up most of the planet by its:

1. Gravitational pull

2. The giant tsunami it creates when forcibly lands in the Atlantic Ocean

3. Drills it's way to the earths core screwing up everything and probably creating big size 10 earthquakes worldwide

Absolute destruction, I love it.

Amazing, simply amazing. Liam Hemsworth is awful as always though, dude has the charisma of a wet towel. The guy is this season's Sam Worthington.

one of the least appreciated battle sequences in cinema...

straight up anime

no one appreciates it because no one we cared about fought in it. Did you honestly care if the annoying teenage kid or bland wife love interest died? There was no tension in the scene.

Absolute destruction, I love it.

I thought that was Jai Courtney?

They all look the same.

That's almost word for word the story for Greg Bear's Forge Of God and Anvil Of Stars books. Though to be fair it is a friendly alien race that saves humanity rather than reclaimed alien tech.

Though it would be pretty ballsy for Emmerich to go in that direction that would actually be pretty cool.

Tom Rothman is lying on a park bench somewhere in LA, drunk, watching this realising that whatever slim chance his Robotech film had of getting made has probably gone up in smoke.

The black dude they paired him with gives him a run for his money breh. I watch a show with him in it and dear God...cardboard tier

This movie hangs in the balance of Emmerichs wackiness and Jeff Goldblum
