Expressing my thoughts. It really is a weird post. Hard not to when I'm part of several groups that would be affected. Honestly, I feel a bit dirty for a particular reason but eh. I refuse to discuss that post(s) further.
I guess I should explain I'm pretty anarchistic and will always vote for the contrarian option - that's the way I operate. The whole political system is a joke to me. I want to see it crumble and Trump is best option for that.

Whoever said it was my party? I don't vote based on parties, I vote based on the people. If I don't like I don't have to vote for them. End of story. Is is that hard to understand?
I honestly think we should express our opinion on the ballot, and that's how I express mine. I don't care if no one cares, and couldn't give a rat's ass of what you think.
I have my opinion, you have yours, let's just leave it a that. If you want to vote for Hillary, then go ahead. I won't.
My gut tells me Hillary would be the worst choice for me personally. Get off your smugness. It is not against the law to switch over and vote for the other side. Ideology and policies do not matter to me. Switching from Bernie to Trump is what I want just for the hell of it and fun.
Who are you to say otherwise? Don't like Democarcy? Tough shit. I have as much right to vote as you.
I don't care if I get banned for saying this, but you are an idiot. if ideology and policies don't matter to you, then I suggest you just don't vote. Your shitty views shouldnt negatively affect people who do care.

That doesn't sound very productive. You do know that these elections have large impacts on very real people? And you wanting the system to "crumble" is just a juvenile thing to do?

Wouldn't the most contrarian option be voting for an actual Communist or Nazi? I'm sure they have people running, if you want to throw your vote away as part of some adolescent anarchistic streak.

That's the same reasoning I could use to vote for disbanding the EPA and abolish any sort of environmental law on companies that pollute just to see how badly we can fuck up our air and water.

Its not really useful. There's no message sent by doing it. Nader's run in 2000 didn't galvanize further green party success, and no-one is asking you why you stayed back to say "gee people aren't voting, I guess things need to change"
There are ways to communicate dissatisfaction with the system. Not voting isn't one of them, because it doesn't communicate
When contrasted against the fact that, even if you hate Clinton, you must recognize that her presidency would be better for some number of people than Trump and yeah, refusing to vote looks like selfishness, placing your own self satisfaction over the lives of the...hundreds, thousands, millions, whatever number of people she'd be better for. Because even if it is only a few hundred that's worth half an hour of your time
Of course not. No candidate is entitled to a vote - ever.
However, I certainly think it's appropriate to call out self-described 'progressives' when they decide that potentially sacrificing at least one and possibly multiple chairs of the Supreme Court is acceptable because they want to vote for Trump "for the lulz"
They have the luxury in that, once again, the demographic is white, college educated, and age 20-29 - let's be honest, Democrat vs. Republican does not drastically impact them. In contrast, other political groups, which progressives claim to be ally to, are profoundly impacted by court decisions.
Don't get me started on the Green party. When you have that homeopath works (i.e., "magic is real") and that vaccines cause autism as part of your platform... it becomes harder and harder to take with sincerity that you're "better" than the far-right lunatic fringe driven solely by a belief system. People switching to the Green party because they believe pragmatism to be an enemy are simply propping up something even worse in its place - creating a Religion of the Left should not be the goal of progressivism.
Its certainly useless. There's no message sent by doing it. Nader's run in 2000 didn't galvanize further green party success, and no-one is asking you why you stayed back to say "gee people aren't voting, I guess things need to change"

I wish you would step back
From that ledge my friend
You could cut ties with all the lies
That you've been living in
And if you do not want to see me again
I would understand, I would understand

Okay fair enough, two different arguments at play here: not voting vs protest voting. I would still question the actual utility of a protest vote, but it would at least be a message in some form

Land of free truly. Guess some people think they are better and more qualified than others to do so. Okay we will leave it to uber superior race like yourself to vote only then.

If anything you're communicating that you don't care if an oligarch nutjob became president by you splitting the vote because you're mad at the Democratic party for not being leftist enough.
It's completely counter productive and counter communicative. You don't have any practical value for either.
Look, I just wanna be able to do crazy and irrational things with the potential to hurt people, and I want to be able to do it without anyone questioning my motives or my sanity. Geez, and I thought this was America!
At this point, Bernie is Plan B if something goes stupidly wrong with Clinton. (And no, I'm not referencing Clinton's prior remarks. Because someone's going to.
And no, this doesn't count.
) No point in officially throwing in the towel now.
The Republicans have demonified her to the point where a big chunk of America that consider her the literal Anti-Christ. They're going at her from every angle, no holds barred. Somebody could land a stupid sucker punch, and there's no point in being caught without a backup strategy when there's this much at stake. He can definitely afford to tone it back, which it sounds like he's going to do.

i didn't say i'm voting for the jill stein/mickey mouse card. but i think people "protest vote" for various reasons. whatever their reasons may be, i think its perfectly legitimate to not vote for candidate X if you don't like candidate X and candidate X is the only person the party is telling you you can vote for.

But it has less than 0 value. It's actively detrimental to the statement you are attempting to make. If you have a problem with the Presidential candidates, vote down ticket, shift the house and senate, and start campaigning and lobbying a candidate you like to run in the next election cycle.

By that logic anyone that voted for Bush has millions of Iraq's deaths on their conscious. Voting for someone is not the same as condoning their possible future actions they may or may not take.

Bush didn't run on a program of "let's invade Iraq". But yes, unless the person does a complete 180 after election day, you are responsible for voting them into office and giving them the power to do those things.

Yes, it very much is. You're condoning a president, in this case (Trump) who's party lines and policy stances would actively make me fear for my life in this country.
