All that happened at Dorne is a waste. The sand snakes are a bunch of sick sneak fucks. Can't wait for them to get what they deserve.
I hope Dany stay at Widow City is not too long.
Brienne's save was awfully telegraphed. Pod's fighting choreography was terrible, it didn't feel like he earned his wins. Theon coming back was nice though.
I loved his ecological reaction to Kennel Girl's death: no tears, no waste.
Onion Knight is a badass, Thorne can go fuck himself.
Arya is riding the Daredevil train, let's just hope her suit will be better designed.
Hurry up Meli, get your beauty sleep and bring back my boy Jon. The Starks need to start giving Ls.

Not a weak start. That being said, I also liked season 5 so what do I know...

Will they recast Rickon ? I imagine he has grown quite a bit, I mean look at fucking Olly and Bran.

Rickon's got the rocketship of puberty taking him straight to planet gangle

(yes that's the actor who played Rickon Stark)

Of course they will, if he ever shows up again. Bran and Olly spent consecutive years on screen so recasting would be harder there, but a kid that's had like 10 minutes of screentime across 6 years, they'd be lucky if the majority of viewers even remember the character, let alone the actor.

Regarding Ned Stark and Trial by Combat:

Ned confessed because he thought Arya and Sansa would be murdered if he demanded a trial.

Joffrey 'altered the deal' a bit, but you can't demand a trial after having publicly confessed.

Besided who would have fought for Ned? Jaime had both his hands back then and he would've most likely fought against anyone fighting for Ned. And if Ned was foolish enough to fight himself, I doubt the end result would've been much different.

I wonder who would've won if the fucking soldier didn't interfere and put a spear into Neds leg.

The scene hints that Eddard was holding his own against Jaime, but everything in the wider lore points Jaime as one of the best swordsmen in Westeros? Either way Jaime didn't want Eddard dead, as he needed him alive to send word to Catelyn to free Tyrion.

I always love the follow up to the fight when we learn why Tywin was so angry with Jaime for starting the brawl. He wanted Ned to be lured out by reports of the Mountain raiding and burning the Riverlands, on a sense of honour ( and of course the man who passes the sentence should swing the sword). He rather safely assumed Ned would be killed by Ser Gregor, removing Eddard from the Game, whilst not looking like an open move by the Lanisters against Winterfell and Robert.
Instead Jaime and his guard fucked it due to his hot headedness.

They are bastards, so under normal circumstances no.

However, in the TV series is appears that all other legitimate blood-relatives of Prince Doran are now dead (without spoiling anything, the book contains other relatives that have never been mentioned in the TV version, so I'm assuming they do simply don't exist in the 'TV canon').

That would mean that Obara Sand (the one that speared Trystane in the back of the head) is the eldest descendent of House Martell and would be the ruler of Dorne. Her mother is not Ellaria, but one of Oberyn's previous paramours.

Come to think of it, it's a bit surprising they haven't considered that when they sent her to King's Landing as an assassin. While the Dornish might be dissatisfied with Prince Doran, I expect they'd want the bloodline successor to be made the official ruler, rather than the Ruler's brother's girlfriend.

Still, it's hard to know what the Dornish people think of Ellaria, since she is the result of combining more than one book character.

Obara is the one i hate the most of these bitches. The only one i can stand is the one with the perfect tits lol.

Yeah but he could have demanded a trial by combat before he confessed. He probably didn't see that this would help his daughters.

Ned was certainly up there too. Even Ser Barristan, who's widely considered the greatest, spoke glowingly about his fighting prowess. Unlike Jaime Ned didn't fight in tournaments and constantly seek fame & glory from it. That said I think they're close to even as we see. Though if I'm remembering the scene correctly Ned was fighting with a regular ole long sword and not his Valyrian Steel greatsword, Ice.

Jamie would have won in 0 sec if Ned had Ice. It was HUGE

If your post contains "the book", then it should almost certainly be in the other thread. Please respect the rules that have been put in place for those of us that just want to enjoy the TV show.

- ABSOLUTELY NO BOOK SPOILERS. It doesn't matter if they're under spoiler tags, they should not be in this thread. Use the other thread for book-related television discussion. This includes alluding to things, subtle hinting, comparing the books to the show, etc...

That's a good point. And if we were to take anyone's word, Barristan would be a good judge of a warrior's prowess.

I wonder if Ned did ever actually fight with Ice? Given its size, but coupled with it being lighter than an equivalent steel sword, it's hard to judge whether it would be a good sword to use in battle, or more suited to ceremonial/office duties.

Apologies if this has been answered already if is not possible to answer but I was just thinking about it and am really curious.

Roughly how much time is meant to have passed since the beginning of the show (S1 E1) up till the end of E1 of this new season?

It's being kept vague on purpose, so people don't question why all the kids are now adults, yet not enough has happened for it to have been 1 season = 1 year.

I'd say a couple years is probably the ballpark.

Are there any good (non-spoiler/non-book reader) places to get all the details on the events that took place when Robert took the Iron Throne? I'm afraid to even attempt Googling it.

I'm fascinated in the adventures of young(er) Robert and Ned.

HBO has their own non-spoiler lore website. That's probably the only place. It only talks about what has been in the TV shows and background lore.

Edit now I can't find it.

Robert's Rebellion - GoT Wiki
The TV show wiki seems to be mostly spoiler free when it comes to past events. Of course navigating to any (including people who died before the show) character/house page etc. will have spoilers up to the latest episode.

I think the only one who could really fight with that sword was the Mountain and maybe the Hound. Impossible Ned ever used it in a battle.

Concerning Rickon's actor:

IMDB shows that he was cast for this season. I don't know how credible this is though.

I think people would like Dorne more if they actually showed Dorne. We only saw the water gardens or whatever it is called and some sand. I want to know more about the people. I hope that changes with Doran being dead.

Interesting. You can see the influences in the clothes they ware. They are pretty much the most brightly colored people on the show.

I would like to see some of the common people finally, and the city. See how they look like. Till now we only saw nobles ones and soldiers.

True. He wielded it gracefully enough when beheading that guy but that's much different than handling it in battle.

Yeah but not before the end of season three. That's when Davos received word from castle black.

Actually if you go back to Stannis' debut Meli is conducting this whole ceremony recognizing Stannis as the Warrior of Light, who is prophesized to lead man against the WW. That was part of his mission all along.

Fantastical

Death Prophet
Just watched it. Was it just me or was the humor really weird in this episode? Like it didn't fit the show to me. Maybe it has just been a while since I've seen GoT.
