Well, they're not designed for hiking. They're originally skate shoes.

Yeah Splatoon is a weird omission. Nintendo should just create legit merchandise and release them under the various Splatoon brands.

I can basically guess why they would omit Splatoon from this.

Splatoon ain't as popular here relatively than in Japan. And the public eye knows Mario and Duck hunt much better than they would Splatoon brands. If anything they'll have Splatoon brand shoes in Japan only.

Vans probably doesn't even give a shit about Splatoon. Mario is the brand strength.

Yet Splatoon is on track to become one of Nintendo's biggest franchises. It sold pretty damn well in the West, & is even amongst the first Nintendo franchises to receive promotion directly in Miitomo. Splatoon's popularity isn't just Japan-only. If anything, getting Splatoon in the public eye more outside of Japan would do the franchise favors in terms of long-term recognition.
