That's old Therion? :p Haha j/k, but to me old Therion is like their DM era (which is of course great too) whereas Lepaca Kliffoth is more... the transition album I guess.

Lepaca Kliffoth is indeed an amazing album and quite underrated. My second favourite after Theli.

Throwing out a request for some mood music. Doom is out tomorrow. I want to get shitfaced and jam out. Pick my playlist :) Song, album whatever hit me with some demon fragging tunes.

Holy shit, new Plebeian Grandstand is fucking legit.

I've also been looking at BABYMETAL live stuff from their North American tour and I can't get over how talented the Kami band is. I know they're all session musicians of some pretty well-regarded renown in Japan but watching them actually play and then seeing particularly the bassist solo during their sets, I was blown away by just how talented he is. Dude fucking shreds on a six string.

After my first playthrough, I've definitely played music in the background while playing DS3.

...just my library on random though so I've totally been fighting some oozing monstrosity from the deep while this was playing... >_____>

Why would you ruin Dark Souls 3's atmosphere and excellent sound design with BG music... SMH

It's a jolly coop night. Just gonna spam bosses in NG + 1. Need to cure this hollowing for 500k souls lol. And second and over playthroughs aren't nearly as atmospheric as the first anyway.

I can't abide by playing music during games at all, no matter how good what your listening to is.

And in particular, games that forego an actual soundtrack because of players typically playing their own music is the fucking worst.

It feels weird posting in here, power metal is effectively dead for the rest of this year and its easy one of the least popular subs among this community anyway.
Maybe there is merit in making a separate thread since there does seem to be a less than normal overlap of interest.

I will take my large speakers outside when neighbors will have a picnic on their garden and I will blast this two albums on highest possible volume. This will teach the bastards a lesson or two :p
A lesson to not have a picnic in your proximity?

So I'm about halfway into this new Destruction album and if you like them, you'll love this. Fucking good. Hopefully it doesn't take a nosedive in the second half. Album art is pretty cheesy. I much prefer the old butcher stuff.

This is good too. Savage Master - With Whips and Chains. Old school heavy metal. I didn't look at the runtime but this album sailed by. Not sure if it was short or if I just enjoyed the hell out of it.

Edit: fuck yes, this Destruction album is awesome. Ends with a cover of Venom's Black Metal and a pretty sweet thrash instrumental. Pretty standard, nothing new but it doesn't need to be either.

A buddy of mine linked me this:

It's some excellent doom. There's some drone sound in there, but they also transition into the classic Iommi-inspired riffs. It's beautiful at times and really dirty at others. The vocals are also powerful, but haunting.

there's a misheard lyrics thread on NWN and I remembered these ones.
I can't recall if I ever mentioned it in this thread, but one of my favourite misheard lyric stories was Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder talking about how their guitarist Mike McCready thought that the lyric went: "I want to rock and roll all night ... and part of every day."

Agalloch's done.

From their Facebook:

'Following 20 years, 5 full length albums, many tours around the world, and numerous other recordings, John Haughm and the rest of the band (Don Anderson, Jason Walton, and Aesop Dekker) have parted ways. What the future holds for the separate parties remains undetermined. We collectively thank all of our fans across the world. There are also way too many other people to thank who made this band possible. You know who you are.'

---

This is sad. I love their first three albums, and they're highly precious to me, especially The Mantle. While their last album was nothing to write home about, it was still a good album.

Fuck everything. First Liv Kristine, then Eluveitie and now Agalloch. This month has been such a rollercoaster. At least I was able to see them a few times but it sucks to see one of my favorite bands go.

That does suck about Agalloch. Even with a million folk influenced metal bands out there today, Agalloch still had a unique voice. I love all their releases. Sad we won't get any more. Also, I never got to see them live so that makes it even worse.

Thanks for these, I'm enjoying both.

New Avatar album came out today. I haven't grabbed it yet, but it's certainly next on my "must get" list. The songs I've heard off it thus far kick a lot of ass, and it's got a sound I don't really have on my iPod.

Anyone else lookin' to grab it?

Seraphis Cain

bad gameplay lol
I mean when John's doing photoshoots like this, you kinda know Agalloch is over.

Hopefully this means new Self Spiller and Sculptured albums, though.

EDIT: John just posted this on FB:

After being inundated by a barrage of responses, I feel that I should clarify some things. I take full responsibility for the decision to part ways with the other guys. It was difficult, well thought-out, and something that had been culminating over the past couple of years. I simply could not continue any further with the band as it was. I had to make a change as my motivation and inspiration had started to completely deteriorate. Whether this is the permanent end of Agalloch altogether or a possible fresh start, I don't know. I probably won't know for awhile. The band has simply been reduced back to its founding, visionary member for the first time in 20 years. Beyond that, the future is unknown.
- J. Haughm

I haven't really listened to much dm in the last 20 years and when I do it is 90s stuff. This is great, kinda making me want to check out more.
Awesome. If you like those bands maybe you'll dig these:

Abnormity - Irreversible Disintegration
Vomit The Soul - Apostles Of Inexpression
Epicardiectomy - Putreseminal Morphodysplastic Virulency
Defeated Sanity - Chapters Of Repugnance
Traumatomy - Transcendental Evisceration Of Necrogenetic Beasts
7 H. Target - Psy Slam Damage

Welcome to the world of brutal death/slam! Polarizing stuff haha
