NPD Sales Results for May 2016

After the 2.7m press release, a million in May NPD didn't add up, but behind UC3 would be disappointing numbers.

A shame also as it's the best in the series.

Glad it's #1 at least.

It's not behind UC3, it sold quite a bit more according to Cosmo.

Microsoft's PR statement is essentially saying that more than twice the amount of people played on their Xbox Ones when Overwatch, Doom, and Black Ops (backwards compatible) were released on Xbox One compared to last year, right? If that's correct, compared to what specific time of last year, though?

I'm honestly surprised 28k people bought the WiiU

Who is buying that

That's what the PR should be.

"Amazingly, 28,000 people actually bought a Wii U this month. We have no idea why. The only game of note the past half year was Star Fox Zero, for fuck's sake. Wow. This is unbelievable. Truly, Nintendo's brand is strong." - Nintendo PR, May 2016

Compared to May 2015.

I underestimated Battleborn. And overestimated The Division since I thought it would chart.

Still a solid month for both games and current generation hardware. Especially knowing cumulative unit sales of PS4 and X1 are 43% higher than they were in last generation's cycle.

Yes, actually.

Lowest month before was 29k in July 2013.

Yeah...well, I shouldn't be shocked. Are there any games for WiiU anymore? Seems like its been a wasteland for months.

Just noticed, that gap is bad for MS.

(

And this is in America, their "strongest" territory. Only other one might be UK and Brazil? But even that news came out today that MS isn't happy with UK sales as well.

But yeah, I think MS has essentially lost every territory at this point. And if Sony has a year headstart with the NEO? Ohh man, fucking forget it. It's over. 2 tflop extra ain't even gonna save you.

This is the first time since February 2015 that an exclusive game got #1 correct?

Really great list, surprised at Battleborn, I'm sure the dev team is very happy about that.

Not misleading when you're talking about sales of packaged goods.

And if you want to bring digital into it, comparing digital share of a May 2016 game and a November 2011 game in terms of extrapolating for total? lol

You're right my post was pretty dumb lol, just had a brain fart.

Been hearing a lot of people saying that Overwatch was going to run over everyone. Well, not only did UC4 prove that wrong (on a single platform), but man, Doom did it too. Impressive.

I suspect there is a tremendous dropoff between #3 and #4 on the list.

As much as I love Doom, some of you should taper the victory dance. Overall theres little doubt overwatch outsold doom.

I don't think most people care about that. People are just happy, as am I, that Doom sold well. There was always a big question mark surrounding it before release on if id could successfully resurrect Doom and bring it make it relevant again. So, this is validation that it's mission accomplished and bodes well for the future, in that we'll more than likely see another Doom made after this one.

To be fair... looking at only packaged sales and trying to compare OW and Doom isn't a useful exercise. Both Doom and OW should have done exceptionally well digitally, and I'd wager that Overwatch could have the highest digital split of any game yet released.

All we know is that we don't know.

Overwatch obviously sold a shit ton digitally. Can't really make any claims about things outselling each other regarding overwatch

Did anyone say that and just mean consoles? Overwatch clearly did run over them just based on PC sales alone.

Dunno. I guess no one expected PS4 to beat XB1 so much this month.

People thought Doom would do better on XB1. Gap is not so big...yet.

They did, many did, it's in the prediction threads. The gap is nearing 2 million, most games now are going to sell more on PS4.

yeah, but shooters are very strong on Playstation too, last gen PS3 just doesn't had install base in US to compete against sales on 360.

Did many people here expect Overwatch and especially Doom to sell most on PS4 when it had Uncharted 4 launching?
