Report me for trolling ND/TLoU2 threads
Seeing all these "I never cared about GOW, but now I'm interested" posts tell me all I need to know. Looks like SSM has gone out of their way to cater to the people that didn't even care about the franchise, while leaving the rest of us in the dust. I mean it makes sense from a business standpoint to follow the TLOU model but man does this suck for a longtime fan like myself. Crafting!? Full game escort mission? Lol. I just need them to confirm no MP to solidify my disapproval.

I'm sure this will be a good game, but this ain't God of War so I won't be buying.

Gonna buy used or rent. Sony's not getting a dime from me to support this.

Wow, too many posts to reply to, but I'll go with this.

Lol most stuff that make it God of War is still here.

Outside of Kratos, the music and troll takedown, nothing screamed GOW to me. The combat is slower, reminding me of a Souls game. Especially when Kratos was glued to the Earth, slashing at the ankles of the troll.

And I'm not even gonna argue with people who say Ascension brought nothing new. That game has the best combat in the series.

Sounds amazing. I wonder if they'll do segments where you get separated and play as the boy.

I'm so glad GoW is growing up. People expect more from their games these days and GoW is delivering it.

Loved all the games and am excited for this new direction.

He was still combo-ing, there just wasnt a counter on screen that I saw. He didnt really combo much in the demo

That's my biggest issue about this reboot

the way this old Kratos combo-ing didn't seem like it's for a hack and slash game at all

now this is an actual combo from an action character game.

bearded Kratos weak attacks were dull as fuck.

Sooo we have a bunch of posters upset that Gears 4 looks like more of the same and a bunch of posters upset that God of War 4 is different.

Gamers, man.

Not the same people man.

Personally, I was hoping more different from Gears. Especially after being the fifth iteration of the series.

That's why I'm totally okay with the amount of changes to this thing. If you want to play the old style God of War, there are four other of them... go do that.

Probably the best beard from any game ever. Of course it would be Kratos to have it XD

Enjoyed every GoW I played (missed 2 and the PSP games) but I can't remember anything about the stories except 3s ending, just remember mindless fun. That said, Kratos is one of the biggest video game characters of all time so it will be nice seeing his human side and seeing his non rage fuelled personality before hes gone for good. If we even do lol im just guessing based on whats there.

I wonder if their is dialog and action choice options and branching paths for how your son turns out.

Did you see that in the trailer?
I think you actions will depend on that.

Like if you use him in combat his skills may grow but the could change in other ways.

Also funny that you rage about them adding all of these things to the game, then complain if there is no MP, a feature that itself was just added in the last entry.

A man has to have a code. I don't like when developers take away features that were in previous installments. Plus, I like gameplay and the MP was pure GOW gameplay.

After the poor Scalebound showing Nier of all things is all we have left
Scalebound was never character action though. It's an action RPG in the vein of Dragon's Dogma, as far as I can tell.

And it doesn't look horrible by any stretch, just pretty bland at the moment. I trust Kamiya though. I wasn't that impressed with The Wonderful 101 based on gameplay footage either, and it turned out to be a remarkable game.

From the trailer it looks like how your son grows is up to you.

The whole "knowledge gained" when your son performs actions seem to point that out

The whole "raising a god" thing might play out very nicely and it would be a good antithesis to how kratos killed every single god he sees.

But how will this theme play along with the norse/valhalla environment makes me interested

A pretty prominent theme of the Greek mythology in the last series was the whole "son is destined to kill dad" business.

Pretty prominent thing in GOW too. Im thinking it is Kratos, and the kid is another demigod, son of a Goddess maybe. At least Barlog is handling it so its basically his call anyway, lore-wise.

Not a fan of the RPG system and crafting.

x2. Not going to go off the deep end and say I'll only buy it used, but I'm very cautious about this. I had no problems with more of the same, but this looks like a big departure. Reminds me of TLOU (which I loved) and Rise of the Tomb Raider, the latter of which I felt added a bunch of unnecessary stuff coming off the 2013 reboot, which is why I haven't beaten it yet. Neither of those influences are something I'd want in God of War.

Hmmm. Interesting. Like if you dont want him to fight then dont use him in battle and that will shape how he turns out? That could be pretty neat if thats actually a thing.

I love the concept behind the game, and I know the combat wasn't the focus of the demo. That being said, the combat shown so far doesn't look great. Make the arguments about how deep GOW's combat was, but at its barest, it was fun. I'm not too interested in a button to fire bows with my kid, unless that kid is juggling bodies and I'm wrecking their face in mid-air. Not too happy with it so far, but I'll reserve further judgement for the next demo. Game looks so damn pretty though.

This series has never interested me before but between that E3 demo and these details this game has my attention.

I think he'll have his own skill tree. Like you could upgrade him to be a better archer for support fire during combat, or make him better at crafting, or choose what kind of spells he learns.

SSM can't please everyone. People complained about same-ish gameplay, they changed it, people still complain. People complained how annoyed Kratos was when he's always angry for no reasons, they changed it, people still complain.

I noticed there are no cinematics too and no black bars and every watching moment is ingame. Very nice to not break the atmosphere.

There is crafting too. I knew that purse he carries would be for something.

I also never doubted bombastic fights will be part of this game and that this E3 was about showing the change.

I hope they show the extended demo soon.

I didn't expect to care about a new God of War, which is not me hating the series, since I really liked 3 but enough of that, and I'm genuinely interested in this new take.

They could have made just another GoW game and it would've probably been great like the last three but it seems like they're really going above and beyond with this one.

If you wanted to play the same tired franchises over and over and over and over you bought the wrong system.

This is all I want. I don't care about the story, the RPG elements, crafting or the damn kid. Crazy fast-paced combat is why I play these games. If that's gone then so am I.

This isn't the Kratos of old.

Yeah, I really dug that scene. I was totally bored of God of War, but this seems quite reinvigorating. Like the fact that you can control the whole camera for sure. Like the new tone, new setting, and focus on characterization and new beginnings.

I'm sure the crazy action will still be there. SSM never fails in that regard. But this series definitely needed an evolution.

Press X to be a family man

That shit ass combat in the video better be just the intro to the system though. It was pretty bad.

Watching it again it didn't look so bad. Throwing your axe to take out some dude, beat the shit out of another, pull your axe back, do that leaping combo while your kid sets up some arrow stuns...there's potential there, and the animations are pretty nice and enemy damage is cool. I think with more moves and weapons the combat will open up nicely.

maybe

In an epic boss kratos gets his blades of chaos back and the combat becomes exactly like the gif, camera angles and all

People shouldn't put to much into that one demo either. As he said they already nailed the bombastic/cinematic gameplay moments. So they wanted to show what else they improved on.

I'm pleasantly surprised by this direction and was pretty impressed by that demo. I've only played a few hours of GOW III but I was struggling to keep my attention. This TLOUy style has me a lot more interested. Hope they can similarly pull off a more intimate story.

Watching Vikings gave me that Nordic urge to rip things to shreds. I was close to buying that other Vikings game, asgard or some shit but man this is the one! Maybe the son is Ragnor for all we know.

I mean they did. The chains gameplay was a hundred times deeper between the first game and he most recent

But the problem was, it still felt the same. A big part of needing to reboot has been abandoning the chains IMO. If they can invest the level of complexity that went into the chains into other areas of combat it could be really special

That is one thing that potentially worries me though. The other weapons just never felt anywhere as good as chains

Thing is, i wanna say 90%, but let's just say the vast majority of action games based on melee produced in the west, aren't very interesting or even good, when it comes to combat gameplay.
Not if you use Japanese games are a metric for comparison (anything from Ninja Gaiden, to DMC, to Bayonetta, to even Bloodborne).
God of War was one of the few that was, i'm not even saying nearly as good, but at least trying.

This to me, and i am fully aware we're far too soon to judge, but what it looks like, it looks like a step away from even trying to be that, and more towards the full on "cinematic narrative game" sphere, with a lot of walk&talk and all them shenanigans.
Which i usually find very forgettable and uninteresting.

I was never a big fan of GoW, so i'm not really upset, but i can't really see this change as a really positive one as of now.
I hope they'll prove me wrong though.
