4K TV's For Around $1000?

I have a Panny Plasma myself right now, good news you think is a good replacement.

I mean don't get me wrong it's not on the same level as my Plasma's, but I was actually surprised how good it looked for the price. I really want their 4K's.

Man you guys are seriously overpaying.
I have a 55inch 4k LG that I paid $523 for at Walmart.

I had to check the date of this thread to make sure this was a 2016 thread

Is it a 2016 model with HDR? The ones people are talking about are this year's model which of course is going to be higher. I'd also be curious about the features included at that price. Like my Vizio has FALD and it really makes a difference with contrast.

Wow, really surprised to see that vizio is considered a good brand now. I used to think of it as Walmart trash.

I thought the same thing until I got the 50" Vizio P series. One of the best TVs I have ever owned (and I have owned a lot), the black levels are really good.

Are there any good 4K TV's at the $1000 price point?

I'm very confused with all of the new terminology like HDR, UHD, etc.... I'm looking for a 4K TV with minimal lag, at lest 50", and some staying power for around the $1000 price point. Does this TV exist, or am I going to have to wait a while?

Honestly bro just wait.....

4K is made for big TVs.. you will appreciateall the small details... unless the tv is for your room, I would say the bigger the better... I juat got one for my home theater room and a 50 inch wouldn't made much difference than my older 1080p tv..

You can get a sub $1000 4K at that size in he near future. In fact, Walmart is currently selling Samsung JU6400s in 55" and 48" models for $750 and $480 respectively (it's the TV I have but it's really only good for sports and games).

Use rtings.com to aid you in selecting a TV. But from my search, I determined the best value proposition came from either Samsung or Vizios (J series for Sammy, P and M series for Vizio).

Another vote for the Vizio P-Series. Has HDR and a built in Chromecast. Their scaling engine is great (I have a 2015 M-Series 4K).

Most importantly, the input lag is excellent. Not quite monitor levels, but it's around 18ms I believe. Much lower than most of what you'll find, especially at this price range.

Best Buy has the 50" for $899 right now.

Sharp and LG both have sub $1,000 4k tv's available at Wal-Mart.

Stay away from their Samsung 4ks though; they are the cheapest possible series and run at 60hz.. (in store)

The main point is getting a UHD that meets proper specs by having a 10 Bit panel that truly allows full HDR support not color mapping HDR compatibility by using something like Dolby Vision. Thats my arguement against LG. Unless you buy a UH9500 or their OLEDs the only HDR you might get is just compatibility with no full output.

If thats a good one with all the features such as HDR, its a great deal.

I paid over 1000 for the first Panasonic VT about 6 years ago. I could buy a 500 bucks 1080p set as well, but this Panny was top of the line in about everything (24p, THX, infinite black etc). And still one of the best pictures I've seen.

Eh, I think it depends on the person. I mean for me, it's a huge difference even on my 50. But I'm sensitive to it and sit kind of close. Also the newer 4k tvs have great features that the older tvs just don't have like FALD.

That said, my brother asked me if he should upgrade his 50 inch Bravia and I told him no. He's not as into it as I am.

Yeah I agree, this panasonic plasma are just incredible I have the GT25 42" for maybe 4+ years now and still rocking hard.

Im going to wait though, right now I dont think I can justify it, I have that link on favorites since I saw it lol.

I might skip 4k TVs and go with Ultra HD ones from Samsung since they offer the best gaming response as far as I read last time.

I'm still holding onto my Panasonic TH-50PZ77U 1080P set. Waiting for a 4K TV in the $1k-$1.5k price range that can match the Panny in PQ.

Stay in the 7000 + series range though. The lower series are ok, but don't have the bells, whistles and higher specs.

Also UHD=4k

I paid £350 for a 43 kg uhd tv. The black levels are sort of bad other than that it's a good tv. I would of spent more but it was a emergency and I'd just bought a new bathroom.

Around the Holidays the P Series from Vizio will be flying off the shelves.

Are you talking about their SUHD line? There's nothing in consumer range above 4K right now. SUHD is just 4k + HDR10

Vizio still has to high of a failure rate and go out faster than most other tvs ive encountered and ive seen too many defective units at my store to the point that i hardly recommend it when i sell.

I actually went from a Panny plasma to the Vizio and I find the Vizio better. Though my plasma was a S60 model, I have no idea how the Vizio may stack up to something like the VT series.

What is better, HDR10 or Dolby Vision? I'm looking at Vizio P series which has Dolby vision or Samsung 8000 series which has HDR10.

Mine is 2015...

I regret everything...

I wonder if I can still return it.

I used to work at Circuit City when they were still a store and sold TVs and this is what I tell people all the time. March/April is when you want to buy a new TV for cheap because of the models.

Good point. Maybe I'll wait until next April or May to scoop up a 2016 65" Vizio P.

also, the lower ones only have 3 hdmi inputs where as the upper ones have 4 usually. i'm eyeing a 55 inch in the 8000 series for about 1500 right now. by the time i get around to saving that much it will probably be 1000 to 1200. wait as long as possible.

55" Sony X900C is the best for your money at $999

120hz native with motionflow 960, nanocryatal color, hdr, 3d, super thin, Android smart tv is great, and X1 4k processing.

Was $1199 last week.

Right now, HDR10 due to UHD Blu-Ray. However, the P series is supposed to be getting an HDR10 update before the end of the summer. Then it will be the only set that has both Dolby Vision & HDR10 on the market.

I have a 2014 Samsung 4K. I will be buying the Vizio when I get a chance, if that tells you anything.

I struggle with these threads...

It's really hard to tell where technology elitism ends and significant concerns over real quality begin. I understand that there is some fluctuation in standards right now, but I find it very hard to believe you can't get a quality 4k TV without spending $1000+ dollars.

I would love advice for people that care about quality, but for people who would never dream of spending a grand on a TV.

Thats nice to know. Had no idea it was getting an update. Thanks.

Yea you can find some for under $1000 now. I've been looking myself. Vizio is a decent brand, they started out rocky but they are good now.

I would go for the Samsung KS8000 out of that mix. The ability to upgrade the physical connections on the TV in case of any potential upgrade in ports is a big thing for me. I have a 2014 Samsung UHD that I've gotten the Evolution Kit for from last year which upgraded my TV to at least read the HDR Metadata, although my TV isn't a 10-Bit panel. The Black Levels side by side on the P-Series vs the 8000 aren't as good in side by side comparisons at my store.
But that't usually my approach, I swear if my store ever got a Vizio rep in it, they would hate my department.

I really wish Vizio would release their sets in Europe.

Money's waiting right here. I've been holding off until HDR became standard, but the prices amongst competing brands here in Ireland arent great. It would be brilliant to see someone like vizio come in and disrupt things.

Check out the Hisense range that is just starting to become available. They're a big Chinese brand, sponsoring Euro 2016 at the moment. Getting some decent reviews and cheap prices (55" 4K HDR for £500)

I have been eying this one ever since I read this review: http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/news/ue65js9000-201503154027.htm

Just need a good deal.

Silly me, for some reason I thought Sammy UHD = less than 4K.

Nice. I have a 7000 series now from a couple years ago and it is still great and much better than the average TVs on the market (although, I paid extra for the 3D and 240hz and haven't needed either, lol)

I think my wife is on board to step up to 4k next spring with income tax money, since she wants to get a much bigger screen....

I'm fine with that; 55+ here we come!

It's worse when you co-worker is a Vizio fanboy because he "saved a ton of money for a great TV" and tries to sell them to everyone as top of the line.... aarrggh... I've almost belted him soooo many times now..

No hdr and 10bit, no buy.

I'm waiting on a good, proper 4k projector before upgrading. No way I'm stepping back from 100"+ screen sizes.

There's no rush to do so right now.

Isn't there a war between 2 different versions of HDR? Wouldn't it be best to see which one becomes the standard?

It's not too much of a war IMHO. You've got Sony and Samsung who are heavily involved in a film industry with companies mastering their films on their Displays. So pretty much physical media is on the side of HDR10 which is what deemed as "Premium" by the UHD Alliance that was forms last year. Meanwhile you've got Dolby Vision which is a chip that can allow TV's with and WITHOUT a 10bit panel to map out the color correction on their screens even if they don't meet the qualifications for what really is HDR in nit levels. By which there's a clear distinction.
I love listening to the conference calls for Sony, Samsung and LG because it's really a lot of damage control they tell their reps to say about the others technology, LG being so gung ho about Dolby Vision and Samsung and Sony talking down about it.

I think the majority of people at my store have negative things to say about the Brand, the only time I'd even recommend a Vizio 4k is if the other TV they are looking at is a Westinghouse 4K.

Yeah I was thinking about that one but wasnt sure if that one comes with that samsung connectbox or whatever you call it..also not sure if its HDR..need a good upgrade to the Samsung 40 inch I have in my room right now its 8 years old and still going strong but its NOT a smart TV or anything, back then there were not any smart TVs

Make sure to get a TV with Dolby Vision as it can't be added via firmware.. HDR10 on the other hand can be added to a TV via firmware if it already has Dolby Vision. The Vizio P-Series 2016 is supposed to get the HDR10 upgrade anytime now.

I want a cheap 4k OLED TV that isn't curved. Not sure if that exists yet. I think the cheapest is like $1800 on Amazon or something.

So what do you recommend in the $1000-$1250 price range at 50" with minimal input lag?

Got my 50" Vizio 4K M series for 600$ 18ms Input lag and awesome image quality.

this is what i've been searching for all day. i just wanted to make sure the M series has decent input lag, considering my old VX model from a while back has pretty bad lag. i upgraded to a 70" Bravia that has MUCH better input lag than the Vizio, and if i end up getting into 4K in the next few years i want to make sure i won't deal with shitty performance while gaming.

also: is there that much of a difference between the 2016 P and 2016 M series? they both are 4K with HDR and Dobly Vision.

For people saying the Vizio.. Anyone know if the input lag is as good as Sony TV's?

It's below 20ms. We don't know for sure if that's the case when in HDR10 mode (no patch adding this released has yet), but the Dolby Vision mode let's you turn on GLL (Game Low Latency), so I would assume the HDR10 mode will do the same once that's released.
