British minority GAF, have any of you been faced with any racist/xenophobia post Brexit? I haven't myself, but I believe that's mostly down to living in a relatively middle-class town.

I get the feeling that most of these attacks are occurring in bigger cities in the poorer communities?

Nah, but London and middle-class in a very diverse area, so unlikely to see much. If anything, it's bloodly militarised the city the other way - feels like people are ready to go to war for the EU. Basically this.

I don't want Obama to shit all over the UK for this stupid decision, I just want him to STOP acting as though the unity of Europe means nothing and the European Union as a concept is a busted flush.

Except that he never even came close to saying that. He said:

All of Europe will take a breath and say “How do we maintain some of our national identities, how do we preserve the benefits of integration and how do we deal with some of the frustrations that our own voters are feeling.”

I agree, the US doesn't give a shit about any of us, but it cares about its own interests and its interest lie in a peaceful and prosperous Europe including the UK.

That's not true. While the U.S. (as should any country) will continually look out for its own interests using many of its available tools, the U.S. and the U.K. have and will continue to have close relations and will help when needed (or asked).

Obviously, the U.S. is not shoving its nose in this because its not our issue and this is one that is decidedly European.

My guess is that the U.S. will use its influence during negotiations (if asked . . . and even maybe if we aren't) to try and garner the best deal for everyone.

All of Europe will take a breath and say “How do we maintain some of our national identities, how do we preserve the benefits of integration and how do we deal with some of the frustrations that our own voters are feeling.”

A great line, and one that can be used in the U.S. as well. He is failing to meet the frustrations of the voters as evidenced by a few things in the U.S., but nonetheless, its the right idea.

The internal party machine conspires against Glorious Leader. This coup is barefaced bourgeois aggression and the people will not stand for it! So much so that they refuse to validate that party machine come election time.

1 in 4 Labour voters less likely to vote Labour after EU referendum, internal survey shows

Rajeev Syal
One in four Labour voters are less likely to vote for the party following the referendum campaign, a leaked internal survey shows.

A poll conducted by YouGov for the party shows that 27 per cent of the party’s supporters at the last general election said they were less likely to support the party following the referendum campaign.

Eleven per cent of voters said they were more likely to support the party since the campaign ended on Thursday.

The figures will be seized upon by critics of Corbyn who have claimed that Labour is losing its core voters under his leadership.

The YouGov survey interviewed 2013 British adults on June 26th and 27th.

It asked: “Thinking particularly about the Labour Party and the Labour campaign in the Referendum, would you say that this made you more or less likely to vote Labour or has it made no difference?”

It found that six per cent of those who voted Labour in 2015 said it was much more likely they would vote Labour; five per cent said a little more likely to vote Labour, making a total of 11 per cent.

Fifteen per cent of Labour’s voters said they were a little less likely to vote Labour since the referendum campaign; twelve per cent said it made them a lot less likely to vote Labour, making a total of 27 per cent.

But the survey also appears to confirm previous claims by Corbyn and his supporters that 65% of Labour supporters voted to remain. It finds that only 24% voted to Leave while nine per cent did not vote.

A spokesman for Corbyn said the party does not comment on internal surveys.

And the Leave vote is split so Lib Dems win

I can imagine Tim Farron's face as he sees the results ...

Lib Dem's would be so bizarre. From relative extinction to "Oh, shit we won something" within a decade....

Not me personally but there was trouble outside East London mosque at the weekend. Some guy got his head kicked in. It could be brexit, or just more anti-muslim/anti-religious sentiments.

Who is this guy actually?
The one in the back, not the waste of air speaking

Health Commissioner Vytenis Andriukaitis, as Dascu pointed out a good while ago (hard to miss, this thread is a monster).

Some his roles:

Responsibilities
  • Modernising and simplifying EU food safety policy while keeping the current high level of safety and ensuring existing policies have maximum effect.
  • Ensuring the Commission is ready in supporting the EU’s capacity to deal with crisis situations in food safety or pandemics.
  • Reviewing the laws that oblige the Commission to authorise genetically modified organisms (GMOs), even when a majority of national governments opposes them.
  • Building up knowledge on the performance of national health systems to shape national and EU policies.
  • Helping address the challenge of increased calls on national health services at a time of intense pressure on public finances.

Vytenis Andriukaitis is part of the following Project Teams:

  • Jobs, Growth, Investment and Competitiveness
  • Digital Single Market
  • Better Regulation and Inter-Institutional Affairs
  • Budget and Human Resources

Totally the kind of Eurocrat allowed to take the piss on Farage for claiming that the EU has more to lose than the UK.

We should start a party with the sole purpose of bringing Atlus games the same day to Europe they launch in the US. I'm sure we'd get votes.

The last time people voted for the lib dems on a single policy issue... it didn't go so well :(.

At the very least the Lib Dems need to find somewhere to hide Clegg.

Do you know what? At this point I'm more pissed off that not one of these fucking politicians have come out condemning the xenophobia displayed and promising swift and severe punishment for any caught.

We have moved past the point of a couple of drunk skinheads coming out the pub at 11:30pm

The only place I've seen it mentioned in a political context is some fuckwit asking Cameron to condemn people calling leavers racist.

As always, being accused of racisim is a more henious crime than the actually racisim itself.

It's really becoming clear how horribly informed most people were about this referendum and how few really even understand the process or what's going on.

My favourite at the moment is civil servants being bombarded with calls/emails from angry leave voters demanding to know why websites haven't been updated to have all EU laws/regulations removed.

Amazing people actually thought a leave win meant by Monday morning we're out and all laws revert back to UK former status. A lot of people are in for a long and protracted rude awakening it seems.

The referendum continues to feel invalidated for me. Too many of those who voted (probably on either side) clearly were not sufficiently educated or aware to what they were voting for and what it actually, really meant. It's looking more and more like a farce with every new wrinkle in twist that emerges post result.

unfortunately democracy doesn't require people to vote based on knowledge. You can vote for whatever reason you like - oh Nigel Farage wears purple socks? I love purple, I'll vote leave.

Nah, it's too important that we all unite now. Can't cause division by pointing out such petty niggles.

The German car industry argument is perfectly in line with the English mindset that Europe would enter some union collapsing panic mode because UK is leaving

... and that the bureaucrat never created any jobs (which is ironic, considering the person speaking was working one of the most obvious job created by the EU).

Thanks.

Eh, should've guess she'd tune in. I'm not sure allying herself with Brexit is a good idea, it'll maybe finally show her supporter the lies she spills.

Edit: Umpteenth note to self: never ever read youtube comments.

At the very least the Lib Dems need to find somewhere to hide Clegg.

Having just watched Veep I could imagine the Lib Dems riding to victory and Farron calling Clegg into No10 and saying "Fancy being my Deputy PM?" and Clegg just telling him to "Fuck off, I'm not falling for that one again".

I don't really have a lot of choice in what I do for the next two years (1yr into a 3yr uni course) but I will try to affect what I can. I guess we can sometimes be surprised by who is racist or not but my Uni is very...multicultural, in a worldwide way. It's a lovely place to be, so I hope when we go back there's...maybe trepidation but nothing to sour it (i mean someone being a racist prick etc).

Nah. I live in London, but I'm sort of paranoid now everytime I get on the bus or walk past a group of English people. Brexit is at the forefront of everyone's mind, so I feel like people will be more inclined to resort to a racist Brexit remark when faced with a frustrating situation e.g. being held up at the supermarket check out or cash machine or waiting for a doctors appointment.

Just returned home and the bin collection hasn't been. I text my missus and told her and said it was because of EU cuts. She replied 'omg, really?'. She walked in before and said she'd phoned her mum, who said it was ridiculous and was busy getting the councils number off the internet and phoning a few of her mates who were leave voters.

I know I shouldn't laugh, but I haven't laughed in days so........

For the record I came clean and everyone is well informed it was a bit of gentle ribbing in these trying times.

On the other side, the past few days there have been 5 England flag poles and 7 Union flag poles erected. Tonight on the drive home, there was one England flag up (could be football exit related), two Union flags and one Union flag had been replaced with a Armed Forces one. Wonder if it's sinking in how screwed we are.

I'm hoping what was a show of triumph in the vote win, is now a trophy of ignorance given the result.

Somebody fill me in about the whole German car industry argument.

They sell 20% of their output to UK, so they need us. Ignores cars built here and sold to UK pop.
Ignores people buying German cars are quite price inelastic, certainly so vs GATT tariff.

Can't say I've noticed a change in the East Midlands. Run your mouth off around these parts though, you're likely to end up with a knife in your gut.

No. Not yet. As I said couple pages back, my girls sis was told "she is next" but nothing worse than that.

But I will say, over the weekend I noticed a few people looking at me with a level of disgust. It's hard to describe if you havent experienced covert racism before, but 95% of racists wouldn't dare say a word to your face.

Those people will just look at you a certain way, and their thoughts will be written on their face, if only for a second. They might as well had "black bastard" written on their foreheads, it's that obvious what they are thinking

Somebody fill me in about the whole German car industry argument.

UK is the biggest european non-home market for German car manufacterer (which is sometimes wrongly quoted as being the second biggest market for them; it isn't, it's behind Germany, US and China).
So somhow they spin that in "EU will do everything we ask of it because Merkel will want to please the big carmaker. This means either our own car manufacturers will benefit, or we'll get access to the single market without freedom of movement".

Spoiler:
Rolls Royce - BMW owned, UK is screwdriver plant
Bentley - VW owned, UK is screwdriver plant.

Goodbye to both plants, they will be moved to Europe, requires 75% EU sourcing.

Fucking owned indeed. In fucking deed.
(note: Mini is also BMW owned; Aston MArtin is Italian, with Daimler (German) also involved)
VDA (german car manufacturers association) "No access to single market without freedom of movement"

Damn wasnt the german car manufacturer argument the strongest one UK had?

Good bargaining chips. Much better than these completely useless banking passports.

Thankfully nothing has happened to me yet but my borough of London is 35% non white residents.

But my brother's friend in Southampton has said that he's been joked with people telling him to get out of the country by work colleagues and his wife was thrown abuse online because of her surname (She's English but took his surname which is Greek)

My grandma lives in Southampton too :(

the funny thing freedom of movement is not even the thing brexit voters want, they just want to shut the borders to all immigration but that has nothing to do with what the vote is about. the whole promise of less immigration is total bs and actually has very little to do with the EU. Most is UK law and is not going to change.

These incidents were brought up and denounced repeatedly in the House of Commons Q&A with the PM yesterday.

EU can't give the UK a shit deal because it will kill the German car industry, so they'll cave fast.
Cue German car industry giving exactly zero fucks.

I'm pro BBC but they've been an iutter shambles throughout this entire referendum. Almost bad enough to make the argument for defunding them more credible...

Welcome to Scotland c.2014.

I haven't been pro-BBC since Blair's Gulf War. I was still young and wasn't really savvy enough to see through the propaganda before that.

Yeah let's get rid of them and save £350 million a week lol.
Freaking tourists coming over here, and spending all their monies.

Living not far away from Versailles, I guarantee you that cutting the head of your monarch won't change anything for tourism.

I very much appreciated the Scottish MSP's actually attributing some blame and having some energy behind their condemnations rather than a bland "Please confirm this bad thing is bad".

I don't know. The fascinating thing about the British Royal Family is that they still live in those buildings and still display this old tradition.

Ending Monarchy would be a stupid idea for the Brits.
