I miss water battles. But that might be because 3U was my first MH.

Played Tri alongside Freedom Unite as my first games (though Tri came in later). I thought I missed them until 3U came along and reminded me, "nope, never mind, I don't like these things."

The vertical gameplay they were looking for with it got refined, so I can't knock the system entirely. It WAS 4's verticality, just in a much earlier state. I'm definitely glad they got the experience in from underwater fights. But... Yeah, I don't really miss them.

I'm really liking Evade Extend in this game. I mean, I just got it and have only played three Quests with it, but I feel so mobile.

Still trying to hit the kitty cat lottery with the Palico scout. Right now I'm running my Prowler with Piercing Boomerang, Big Boomerang, and Mega Boomerang as innate skills with a Fighter bias. After I unlock Emergency Escape for all Palicos I'm going to teach my Fighter cat Emergency Escape. For skills I'm going to pass on Boomerang Pro in conjunction with innate Attack (S), Critical (S).

I liked Lagi and Cadecus fights, could take or leave the rest of them.

I'm glad Lagi is back and entirely on land. I LOVE his design, it's the best of 3rd gen in my opinion and was sad he wasn't there in 4U. HATED fighting him underwater but that is no longer an issue now!

You still handing out Chocos?
Not tonight, going to bed. Send me a PM or check if I'm active in this thread tomorrow and I'll send one your way.
what's that thing about getting tickets from lower levels in deviant quests? can I get lvl 1-9 from lvl 10?
I've been getting 1-5 from 6, so I'd say that's a fair bet.

Speaking of, I managed to craft lvl 6 silverwind nargacuga armor today. I'll try to finish the set tomorrow (level 10, baby). Maybe a bit ambitious.

random person online gave me their ultimate GH Palicos. this is it to make the best boomerang set? RNG isn't that bad when you got four villages to shuffle from. I have the exact same set up like a week ago and all I did was check out all the Palico hire places once in a while. mine's uniquely named too :p

k cool. had to stop at lvl 5 because I didn't know there was an HR6 req ;_;

Tried out some aerial SA on an Astalos and it's straight up bonkers lol. Managed to mount it five times and didn't even know it was near death when I killed it. I'll play with it some more but not sure if I'll stick with it, feels far too chaotic to me.

Also my cats got me 2 plates that run.

That's cool. But. This is MonHun. You are the guy who just got two Rubies in your first shot; this is the game giving you a dose of good luck to keep you from quitting. Because even when handed multiple shots at the RNG the Desire Sensor finds a way.

it always finds a way

Hi please suggest for me..I just made to guild 3 * by myself with sns Soldier Dagger lv 3, should I switch it out now for the catspaw lv2.

Also when I go online and help others do I also complete my own quest too? I ve never played MH with others yet. I just tried with mhgen but havent figured how to yet.

LiQuid!

I proudly and openly admit to wishing death upon the mothers of people I don't like

Yep, aerial switch axe feels a little unfair compared to other weapons. I've failed so many capture quests in the village since I started using it cause I accidentally kill things too fast.

The only quests that you don't share completion credit for online is the urgent quests that level you up to the next rank. It's courtesy to take turns doing urgents until everybody completes theirs.

First mh for me, so far my most hated monster is nibelsnarf, not looking forward to hunting that guy offline (hbg user :( )

Nibelsnarf is far easier to deal with than Cephadrome.

He mostly has his back above ground and when he goes under he's generally going to do some lunge attacks and then come back up.

Even when he's under you can counterattack him in several ways unlike Ceph who you HAVE to deal with using Sonic Bombs or he spends the majority of the fight being an asshole.

There's just something majestic fighting Lagiacrus in the water, when you're deep down in the bottom and and this great sea serpent is casually swimming closer to you. Felt like you're really out of your element.

But in retrospect, only Lagiacrus and Ceadeus remains in my memory. I completely forgot I ever fought Plesioth in water or Gobul.

Gobul was one of my favourite fights in Tri tbh, popping it's lantern as it turned around trying to suck you in for it's vortex was always fun as hell. Then again, that was probably only fun because I played hammer, can't imagine doing it with any other weapon.

Lagi is super memorable too, your first fight against one in tri is one of the most impressive moments of the series for me. It's just not the same fight on land.

I fought the water battles with a lance and loved it, really felt quite primal, taking down giant monsters underwater with a spear! I'll never forget meeting Lagi for the first time underwater while foraging, he noticed me and it was one of few times in MH where I just panicked and thought 'lets get out of here!'. To be fair that's the point of the quest, but yeah, there's something about being out of your element. I thought the water areas of Deserted Island were beautiful too, nice cool blues as opposed to the murky Flooded Forest.

Against Gobul I'd lace the lakeside in flooded forest with traps and bombs, then fish him out with a frog. Good times :D

Had some great hunts this morning, did Heaven and Earth (Rathalos+Rathian, 3*) solo. The text said it was mating season and they weren't kidding, 'Los turned up as soon as I started hitting Rathian! Managed to blind Rathian with a flash bomb, drive 'Los off with dung bombs, then take them out one at a time.

Also beat Seregios solo too, felt so good to be fighting him again, one of my favourite monsters. He's so fast that it really feels like a duel. Enjoyed it so much that I ran it twice, have now got my self-sharpening Harmah lance. Combined with the razor-sharp skill on my armour, it's sliver of blue sharpness lasts quite a while!

I think you can only flash Dreadking out of the air when a wing is broken. Secondhand info here, never fought it myself.

I should probably get HR6 out of the way so I can start building a silverwind narga set. Mizutsune plates are my current bane, I've killed the village LR one about 15 times and plenty of online ones too - no plates ever, and I need 2. Fought plenty of the HR Mizu as well, hell I had to solo one when I got disconnected last night. Not overly concerned about Gammoth either, I guess I could just bring a shitload of fire ammo and this fully upgraded rathling LBG.

Speaking of, I finally got the Mizutsune Plate I needed yesterday in a roundabout fashion. I'd farmed him in the Village quest about a dozen times with no luck. So I figured if this is going to take awhile, I might as well upgrade my Gore HBG to the high rank one in order to make those Mizutsune fights go faster. In a stroke of luck, I already had the Gore Plate for it and just needed some high rank ores from the Volcano. After powering through the HR4 key quests solo in my crummy low rank gear, I got those ores.

I then proceeded to get that Mizutsune Plate on the very next hunt.

Just solo repelled Narkokos to reach high rank- took 30 mins but pleased I could do it!

A few questions about that fight-
Presumably damage to all its parts stacks, even though each is listed as a seperate monster when auto-targeting?
When it toppled over, where exactly is it vulnerable? I was hitting it with a blue-sharpness lance and mostly bouncing off.
Is it worth taking the 'fencing' skill (no deflected attacks) and just relentlessly targeting the body instead of the tentacles?

Still, enjoyed the fight. Really cool to see all the wyvern skulls, at one point it had a Brachy and a Seregios.

All damage should stack. When it's toppled over, the circles/rings that line its back/top are vulnerable.

It is better to hit the arms until it topples over and then hit the circles/rings. Deflected damage is heavily reduced if I recall correctly, perhaps almost completely not worth anything. There's little reason to hit a part that cannot be pierced unless trying to break it. When fighting him, don't go for the body if you're bouncing off.

I wish more people bought Wii U's so I could play this in HD.

I hope you guys are having fun though.

This has been my biggest wish since 3U on the WiiU. If the NX info from today is real, and the next monster hunter releases for it, I can die happy.

Bouncing does not do any less damage than if you didn't bounce, but the fact that you bounced means that the part is taking so little damage that it's not worth hitting. You are essentially correct, just backwards on the cause/effect. You bounced because you are doing low damage, not you are doing low damage because you bounced.

Fair enough. I forgot to mention this, but I'm also quite sure that a skill like Mind's Eye (no bounces), while letting you "pierce" anything, won't change the fact that you'll still see and hear the Sparks and thus do insignificant damage regardless.

So if I need high rank parts to upgrade my stuff does that mean I am geared up enough to get into high rank? I have the low rank narga armor with +20% affinity and evade extender. I also have the narga great sword and sns leveled up till they need high rank parts. I also have the glav sns leveled up till it needs keenbones which seem to be high rank parts.

Yup, sounds like you're ready for it! High rank isn't that different when you exclude the new monsters you haven't faced.

Thanks fellow hunters, much appreciated.

Cool. I soloed to hr2 last night and it was stupid easy. Hopefully I don't hit too many road blocks!

Both Jorgejjvr and I have not faced any challenges in this game whatsoever, hyper monsters and deviants and all. I'm pretty sure you'll end up fine, just make sure to account for things that may negatively effect you, and watch out for how much zenny you use up!

I've definitely noticed that both village and guild seem easier as a solo hunter than MH3/4- is it just me getting better over the years, the added options from hunting styles/arts, or are the monsters significantly weaker? Attack patterns don't seem that different, maybe they've just toned down low rank a bit, admittedly I'm only just starting HR now.

To my knowledge, it's a mix of the hunter arts and monsters having significantly less health in the Hub (tweaked for about two people instead of three or four). Quests normally end in minutes-seconds unless they're very endgame quests.
