Persona 5 "Summons" Gameplay Video

I like the UI not only for its stylishness, but also for its anti-minimalism. I'm bored of clean and sterile UI, and I'm always glad to see something buck the trend.

Honestly I think the UI will be much easier to parse in English

It's already almost completely english O_O. Only skill list isn't and skill list is basically the same as previous games.

I dunno, I am just not connecting with people saying it's a clusterfuck. Sure, it's kinda busy, but it's designed with that in mind. You don't need to scramble "which option is highlighted? Everything is popping somuch I can't tell", because you don't even need to highlight, you just press the button. After an hour of game you won't even need to look. You'd just press the button for persona or shoot or whatever by muscle memory.

Whether it's worse or not is up to the individual, but I would disagree with you on that point. The whole integration of gameplay/art/music during combat flows together in a stylish and entertaining way few games really ever accomplish. I speak of TMS#FE of course, but Persona 5 looks like it will handily up the ante even more.

I really like all the HD RPG work ATLUS has been working on. You can really tell they go the extra mile when it comes to tying together all the elements into a really phenomenal presentation.

Both TMS and Persona have flashy UI animations, in general they look good, but for me TMS's problem was that they were slow.

Compared to Velvet Room it was a pain navigating Bloom Palace as you need to wait for every animation (or Tiki talking useless crap) to finish before you can use the menu to do what you came to do. Add long loading times to that, and it feels like a slugfest.

Persona has both good visual design and snappy usability so it takes the cake for me:

There's a lot of stuff in the same sense, like auto-battle in TMS that didn't cut / shorten any attack animations which made it also feel sluggish in comparison to Persona where the function was essentially fast-forward for battles.

Don't get me wrong, I think TMS is a good game and visually great compared to many other (non-Atlus) JRPG's, but for me Persona does so many things better in practice.

I'm in this camp too, good to see a UI that looks extravagant without being unreadable.

I think this is the best UI I've seen in an RPG ever. So stylish and fits the tone of the game, adds that dynamic feeling to the game.

I agree with you on the Bloom Palace, and even though you can skip the animations, you still have to wait for them to start to be able to skip them. But navigating the menus there, going in and out really isn't that bad for me, though I can see how you'd find it sluggish. I always skipped the fusion animations in P3/P4 as well because I just didn't care about them.

On auto-battle all of the attack animations are sped up though (been using it all night in the arena for tokens), and combat is much shortened, but that's primarily because they're all just weapon attacks versus skills. Now if they had an auto-battle for skills too (maybe they do and i'm just dumb and haven't found it), i'd totally give you that. I know probably not everyone likes watching the sessions the farther in the game you get, but maaaaaaaaan I love how slick it all plays off, and how they call out to each other during them.

That being said, i'm interested in seeing how fusion turns out in Persona 5. The gameplay seems really snappy, so i'd hope that aspect carries over there. Yet again, I do wonder what they'll do with it now that they have a system with power that's more capable of realizing the cool stuff their artists and animators want to do.

The slightly bitter part of me wants to say the Velvet Room had to be snappy because of the random skill inheritance lol (and well, in a non-bitter manner, P3/P4 are PS2 games).

I honestly think people will find it the opposite - it only looks overwhelming at first, but it's both quicker and easier to actually use than, say, P4's UI, and by 10-20 hours you won't even notice how flashy it is anymore.

There's actually not all that much stuff on screen, and in some ways the UI is actually less intrusive than P4G's, it's just more animated.

Yeah I think it's weird people are deciding it's too confusing while watching this video where they are blasting through it. I guarantee when you have it on your TV and you've played the game for a couple of hours it will be no problem.

Is the fishing minigame something new for this series? Don't remember it from P3 or P4. Maybe there is an arcade like in the Yakuza series, that would be cool. Put the first game as à prize in a cabinet or something.

The UI is awesome. You guys who think it's too busy should consider that this video shows someone playing as fast as possible (I think that's the point, to show how fast it can be now). You can slow down and not have all the effects run together. That will be more common anyway. Regardless, it doesn't bother me.

Persona 4 had fishing.

UI looks great to me. It doesn't seem to function any worse than 3/4 and since commands are mapped to face buttons it'll end up being faster to get where you want.

Game looks so hot.

I don't know how to feel.

I mean, I'm glad it's coming out, but there are a lot of things where they went in a different direction from p4 than I would have wanted

I cannot recall any game making me excited to play it because of its UI.

I also love how the Persona appears before you give it a command.

If you get a One More, you can pass that extra turn off to another party member.

Holy shit, I didn't know about this. I wonder what have they changed to have it not entirely break the game, it seems it would lead to infinite All Out attacks over and over unless an enemy has no weaknesses.

There are probably limitations to Baton Touch, and it's also an ability locked behind a Cooperation level.

Hold me, it's so beautiful..... Maybe my favorite UI of any game I've ever seen ^=^

I can see how it may be a turn off to some people though. The vibrant colors, pop out angles and quick transitioning menus could be considered "Busy" to some.

Hope they do a bigger summon animation for special moves or critical hits or something. The persona just appearing being half covered by the menu is depressing. #bringbackevokers

I love the UI and animations. I just think they are much too fast.

Hopefully there is a setting in the menu similar to Final Fantasy's battle speed, option.

Seems kind of pointless.
Everybody that looks at the cover is going to come to the conclusion that he will become a party member.
The DLC costumes give it away too...

Sure, we know he'll be a party member, but we don't know what his outfit looks like, what his Persona is, his arcana, etc. like we do for everyone else. And I don't mind them trying to keep at least something a surprise for when you play the game!

Yep, it's so busy that it distracts from the gameplay visuals. The UI takes up what seems like 50% of the screen at one point.

It's a menu-driven turn-based RPG. Of course it does.

Hell, it's less intrusive then P4G's:

And this is without "Show Info" enabled, at which point it takes up basically the entire screen. (The info P4G shows with "show info" is always visible in P5's skill list.)

Yeah the menu covering up the summons really bothered me too. UI just has a little too much going on.
