I thought it was an okay game, but really not on the level that people make it out to be imo.

I thought i was about to play some crazy hidden gem, but nah, it was very average.

Me too! I felt like I was waiting for it to kick in the entire game. Waiting for some bonkers twist, something to make me feel like I didn't just waste like 8 hours. Then the twist happened,i think, idk they telegraphed it the entire game. I feel like I see the same concept in military shooters all the time, even cod.

I think RPGs need to die out momentarily and come back with a big boom once devs have enough time to realize what made certain RPGs great.
Only saying this because I miss the 90s eras of RPGs, but yeah I know we'll never get those

If you're referring to turn based combat I'm glad it's dead.

JRPGs or WRPGs? Because there was a massive, massive difference between the 2 in the '90s.

Or are you referring to any game that includes a character progression system?

Witcher 3 just near-enough perfected the current state of Open-world WRPGs so I sort of agree, whoever is next up to the plate should be thinking about a big twist on the genre.

Sonic 1 is better than any Mario game I've ever played.

You'd be surprised how many people I talk to believe this is pure blasphemy

I like 2 more than 3 but the games are more than different enough that it's a matter of playstyle preference rather than polished gameplay or whatever.

I totally agree. Dark Souls 3 is the first Souls game i've beaten, and it's because I just said "fuck it" and summoned for most bosses.

There's no shame in this. My favorite times in DS2 especially were helping people through the Looking Glass Knight and Velstadt fights. If no one ever wanted backup then I would've had very different memories of that game. Besides, giving the boss more health can be a detriment at times especially if someone screws up.

I love Dark Souls 1 and 2 but I couldn't bother with more than an hour of Bloodborne. I really thought I'd dig the aesthetic more but once I was in-game nothing clicked. I didn't give it very long but, hey, I got other things I could be doing, like complaining about Bloodborne online.

I wish more people could admit that your favorite Final Fantasy game for most people really just comes down to whether you played 4, 6, or 7 first. Each one of them makes the other two feel weaker after you play it.

Bloodborne has the most difficult start out of any of the Souls games. What I've really missed since DeS is 1-1 of the Boletarian Palace. The design of that level and the slow reveal of the (very beatable) boss is better executed than any of the games that followed.

Don't get me wrong, once I got into Bloodborne I really appreciated central Yharnam. But the first few hours of play had me the saltiest I've been at a video game in the last decade. If I hadn't already been invested from my past with the series and with the game's aesthetic and combat movement, I might have dropped the whole game. That would have been a fucking shame, and I think the fault can be laid at From's door.

- The Dreamcast has become overrated and probably has the weakest library of any Sega home console apart from the SMS.

- Deus Ex Invisible War isn't that bad.

-Oblivion's world is more engaging than Skyrim's.

- The following games aren't very good (either due to ageing terribly or not being good in the first place):

Secret of Mana
Golden Axe (entire series)
Goldeneye
Starfox

I didn't think it was all that difficult, really. Even if it's pretty loaded with basic enemies the environment gives you tons of opportunities to fight entire groups effectively.

It just didn't feel fun for me, that's all. Whatever spark it was that DS1 and 2 fired in me right off the bat didn't happen in Bloodborne.

The only good Elder Scrolls game was Daggerfall

Okay, so I don't know how controversial this is (maybe it's extremely so, maybe it's not at all, I don't really see people talking about it much for some reason), but it probably seems ridiculous given how big of a fan of the series I am:

So, I love Pokemon. It's one of my favorite, if not my absolute favorite, series in gaming. I guess you could say I'm kind of a superfan given how much merch I've collected over the years, as I have almost every Pokemon game and every mainline version (all of which were bought on launch day from gen 2 and onwards). And yet, despite this, I find the actual mechanics of catching Pokemon to be completely boring. I have, and never have, had any interest in the process of "Catching Them All". I think it's an RNG-based exercise in tedium that requires very little player skill. The games are fantastic because of everything else about them, primarily their battle systems.

I feel the same way.

In every generation I've played, Ive focused simple on getting a well rounded stable across all types and ignoring the rest. Thus the ever swelling number of Pokemon has made my actual collection more sparse with each passing game.

The Witcher 3 is one of the worst games I've played this generation, the controls are a mess. I will say that I didn't get too far into the story to appreciate it but I just couldn't continue, gameplay was atrocious.

That's going way too far, but I'll agree that I couldn't keep playing after 5 hours or due to the gameplay, and due to not really being intrigued by the world.

Metroid Prime is mediocre.

Just finished it and can see why some people love that game but man I couldn't get into the lore and the exploration grew old after a few hours.

I think all Final Fantasy games, Chrono Trigger, any menu based fighting/RPG games are horribly boring and not fun.

Also Witcher 3 is boring. Played an hour then my friend and I popped in Twilight Princess HD on Wii U. Infinitely more fun.

Imo a real profession game critic would have at least a BFA or good art history background. Imagine reading a review and not just seeing "the story was bad! the graphics, good!" but a genuine critical analysis of shape, color, form, function, technique, historical context, etc.

Most game critics are functionally illiterate for all the good they do.

Then again if i had my way it would probably take multiple playthroughs over hundreds of hours to review each single game.

Agree completely.

I wouldn't be strict on the BFA, but otherwise, I'm absolutely in favor of critics having more credentials.

Better backgrounds in art history, critique and writing skills would be a boon for this industry.

The enthusiast press masquerading as "professional critics" is a complete and utter joke.

Agreed. You don't need to be an expert to talk about games and make entertainment content on the internet. But if you are going to review a game, and rate it, you need to be professional.

Hideo Kojima, my personal example of some worse that the industry has to offer. Here is a developer that spends too much time trying to build a movie with a video game.

Resident Evil 6's control scheme was developed by the anti christ.
Probably the worst control scheme I've ever used in a TPS.
Not sure if unpopular or not but I just need to vent.

The new DK Country games have the worst controls of any Nintendo platform game. I really don't understand the praise for their gameplay, I had much more fun with Yoshy Woolly World (just to name a less acclaimed game).

-I liked the FF XIII trilogy and Lightning is my favorite FF character
-I find the Souls games boring
-I prefer DOA over Virtua Fighter
-I prefer the rebooted Tomb Raider and Lara Croft character over the original.
-The first Devil May Cry did not age well

This is something I only discovered recently: I hate GOTY talk.

I hate seeing people discuss whether game X is inherently better than game Y, when X is an open world RPG and Y is a linear third person shooter. Game awards should either not exist, or continue to exist and be divided into categories, since there are so many different genres, some of them even with varying definitions of what a video game is. Current GOTY talk is the equivalent of putting every athlete or player of any sport and choose the best "sports person" of the year (which I'm sure also happens and is equally as dumb.)

What? Hell no. I can review and rate what ever the fuck I want. I have no idea ehat this discussion is about but jut in general, why would I have to be professional to rate stuff?

I find Platinum Games to be insanely over-rated and their fan base insufferable. I mean, they're great developers but when you have people that feel they could take every game ever made and make them all ten times better, I won't lie, I find it kind of annoying, especially when many of their games have a lot of flaws, despite being a lot of fun

I agree.

The proposal that every game critic should be qualified would basically turn every gaming publication into Edge, and I'll be fucked if having one Edge isn't boring or pretentious enough as it is.

This thread gets me heated despite knowing what it's about. Just watching these train-wreak of opinions makes my heart hurt...but I can't look away.
